Made an Order of some Rebus Boots 4 months ago, message them multiple times and their excuse was that due to Covid there was some delays, understandbly i kept waiting until one week ago when i decided that was time to ask for a refound, still no response, what a complete scam!

Report them to local police

Returned the goods because I wasn't feeling paying almost 50% of value in customs duties. Never received any refund and they stopped responding to contact attempts. Reporting them to local police right now. I'd suggest people with similar experiences to do the same, maybe we can prevent someone else from being scammed.

I think this company is a total scam

I think this company is a total scam! I purchased some boots and received a note saying they could not deliver them due to quality issues and would I like a refund. I said I did want a refund and have still yet to hear back from them over a month later. shocking service!

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. I purchased a pair of Rebus boots which I had to return as they were too small. Spent GBP50 on expedited, tracked shipping and still waiting for a refund. Purchased a larger size of boots and weeks later, still haven't received them. Zero response to multiple emails and Whatsapp messages. Over GBP460 spent and nothing to show for it. Beware!

I have never had been subjected to such…

I have never had been subjected to such poor customer service. I echo the other reviewers. I wish I had seen their reviews prior. Ardent is impossible to get a hold of. That is not hyperbole. They simply go dark after taking your money. They take 2 months to send you the product and when you try to return one pair, it's as if they literally do not exist. I cannot understand how a company or a human being can ghost a person like this. It defies logic and the basic principles of human decency.

No delivery Inspite of full payment

My wife ordered shoes for me on the 12th of April 2021 and we still haven't received the order.
Obviously the entire amount has been credited to their account and there is absolutely no communication from Ardent's end.
We have written to them on multiple occasions and also tried calling them on their whatsapp number but its seems to be all in vain.
At this point we are only requesting them to either give us a delivery date or refund the money which is a fair request.

cheating, lying, incuriosly

First of all I want to warn everyone about this company!
As mentioned before the company is located in the UK. Which means for everyone outside of the UK a big amount of taxes are added to your order when receiving it.
I had the shoes in a size which was too small. After returning the shoes and texting them a couple of times about my refund I finally got the answer saying the shoe was used outside for a long time. What a lie! I tried multiple times to get a refund. Unfortunately they not bothered and not taking any responsibility for their company. I will never buy here again and recommend to NOT shop with this brand. There are better, more reliable companies out there which do better.

ARDENT DISSAPOINTMENT

I don't remember much from my 'Commerce' class at school. But I do remember the phrase, caveat emptor. I don't know why I remember it - it just stuck.
It means, 'let the buyer beware'. This is important.

My boots cost me €217 and there was an additional €10 of shipping to pay. That's not an unusual amount of money for me to pay on boots. I like to buy good quality, less often.

The boots are nice. They are well made - €200 is a little rich given the machine stitching etc. But thats a small issue. They are smart. And look the money, just about.
FYI - They are very, very narrow. Typical, in my experience of Portuguese / Spanish footwear. I bought a full size larger than normal ( as advised ) and I'm still deciding whether they fit or not. So be aware of that if you have a wide foot.

The far bigger issue is how the company promotes itself as Portuguese. There might be just enough wiggle room for them to say, legally, 'we never make that claim'. But everything down to the beautiful packaging and the hand signed note, promote the fact that the shoes are made in Portugal.

Here is the rub.

The company is based in the UK. And everybody knows the UK is no longer in the EU. As such, every country in EU now taxes products from the UK ( I think its, 'every', if not, its most ) .
My boots, for example, came with an additional €90 import tax. Not fun. Nor, in my opinion are the boots worth €300. They are more Loake than Trickers or Churches. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Just a different price point.

Import tax isn't new. But Brexit is. And this company know that - they also know that they promote their shoes Portuguese heritage. Not their UK heritage. Which causes confusion. It also means the shoes have a bigger potential market. Which I am sure is co-incidental.

Bottom line - the shoes are just about worth the €200 price point. Although you might find better ( especially on sale sites ) who spend more on the shoes and less on the packaging. Nice packaging though it is. Truly.

The company's WhattsApp communication tool is awful. I finally ( after several days of nothing on Whattsapp ) got a response from Emma via Instagram.

No apology. No real explanation .... Emma told me that some parts of Ireland require tax and others don't .... I might have let that go if Emma had showed a little more concern that her customer had just picked up a bill for 33% more than the advertised price.
But she didn't
So I didn't
ARDENT need to be more honest about potential charges on their products
Emma needs a history class or 2 ;)

Caveat Emptor, people. Thank you, Mr O'Connor.

They do not accept returns

Having bought two pairs of boots in different sizes, Ardent refused to accept return of either pair. This was despite me having only worn them once to try them on. Ardent claimed that they were 'damaged' despite there being no evidence of this. I supplied photos to show the boots were in exactly the same condition as when they arrived. I feel ripped off having spend over £350 on the boots and not being able to return the pair that I don't need. I've tried to reach a resolution via customer services but they have stopped responding. How can you sell boots online if you're not willing to accept returns when they don't fit??

Stylish design but beware: you'll be triple-taxed on your order

Warning to Canadian and U.S. customers: you'll get triple-taxed on these boots, and Ardent doesn't care.

I purchased a pair of the Rebus Grey chelsea boots for delivery to Toronto, Canada. Ardent charged me 13% Canadian HST sales tax at checkout, which I thought was odd (they're based in UK) but convenient as it meant they must have a Canadian warehouse to handle the import.

However, I was soon notified by DHL that I had to pay import duties and taxes of $58 to release my boots from the border. This was on top of the $38 HST I paid at checkout.

All-in I ended up paying almost $100 in taxes on a £175 pair of boots, which is flat-out ridiculous. Can Ardent even legally charge HST, being a UK company, if they're going to leave me on the hook for import taxes too? Is this not duplicative taxation on the same product?

I reached out to Ardent support and they're useless. At first virtually non-responsive, then very dismissive. When I requested an HST refund, they tried to argue that I didn't pay taxes at all (despite me having invoice that clearly stated the HST charge).

Something suspicious going on with this company. Are they even remitting the sales taxes they charge to their customers' local governments? Doubt it. I strongly advise you avoid Ardent--the products are NOT worth it.

Respuesta de ARDENT

Hi RT,

Thank you for your review and I apologise for the bad experience you felt you received from us! Please allow me to shed some light on this situation and clarify some details:

ARDENT (Ardent Clothing Ltd.) is a Private Limited Company registered in the UK with Companies House (09758952) and are legally responsible for charging Value Added Tax (VAT) at a rate of 20% on UK orders only. We are governed and monitored by HMRC in the form of quarterly VAT Returns which are formally checked and submitted by chartered accountants to appraise our trading history throughout each financial year.

Outside of the UK, and by law, we are not legally responsible for collecting or reporting any other form of tax and as a result all orders outside of the UK are subject to 0% tax. As we have confirmed in previous correspondence with yourself, the 13% HST tax listed on your order confirmation email, was an incorrect tax setting on our website, which has now been corrected to 0% in line with UK Trading Laws. To confirm this was an admin error and a tax you were not charged.

Please kindly note that the taxes listed above are separate to the import duties you have also mentioned in your review. As stated in our terms and conditions, ARDENT is not liable for any duties and taxes issued by your countries national import office. These are calculated and issued once the shipment has entered your country. Such fees are issued direct to the customer and are not controlled by ARDENT in any way. Unfortunately this is completely outside of our control.

On a more positive note, now the UK has reached a trade agreement with the EU (effective from the 1st January 2021), we do now prepay import and duties fees on all European orders which are now shipped DDP (Delivered Duties Paid). As the brand grows, we hope to roll this out to the rest of the world to ensure all of our customers can benefit from this.

I hope the above helps to explain this situation in greater detail...

Thanks,

Ross
