Avoid this fraudulent company at all costs. The founder screwed it's customers, reduced limits and took away key features. He has no integrity and just used and abused his early supporters.

A dishonest company who I wouldn't trust with either my data or my business as they could vanish at any moment. They have ripped off so many people and have such a bad reputation I would stay well clear, and I seriously doubt they'll be in business for much longer. And if you do see any good reviews they will either be fake or from a long time ago before key members of staff jumped ship.

Abysmal.
No support answers, to the halving of plan storage promised at purchase time.
Promised an ongoing upgrade path but still on the same antique LLMs from 2024.
Some lifetime deal.
Stay away, and from their dodgy mates at appsumo that have blocked searches to the product.

They won't refund my money even though I asked for it the next day. They claim they have a 30-day money-back guarantee. They keep claiming they are in contact with the billing team. They don't even have one. In Stripe payments, you can right-click and press refund. I suspect their email response is timed and possibly AI. They are just playing with your time to keep you waiting as long as possible.

This is a scam company; they sold me a lifetime deal, then 18 months later, told me that a platform they were now listing on (AppSumo) was forcing them to cancel my 18-month-old plan.

That's absurd and nonsense; such a process is against the terms of the sale and would also be illegal, monopolistic, and anti-competitive.

They refused to give me a refund and instead proposed giving me credits to use on their platform.

I followed up on this with their support team and asked for evidence of this requirement from their partner, but they did not provide it.

Furthermore, they deleted my access to support!

Fortunately, I kept records of everything, conversations, transactions and communication with the CEO and was able to get my money back through a credit card chargeback - even though it was beyond 18 months.

They tried to challenge the chargeback, but my comprehensive evidence left no room for them to cheat me further.

Another AppSumo product that changed its terms and conditions. They removed BYOK so AppSumo users had to use their own credits.

The system is now outdated by GPT Reasoning and web search. You can get better results with chatgpt or claude subscription and use web search for citations and research.

The UI is awkward and outdated. They have been trying to sell the product on a marketplace.

The owner of the product bans you on Reddit if you ask anything about BYOK.

I would highly not recommend this product. Save yourself some money.

They are permanently and without warning banning users from their help platform on Reddit when placing critical comments.

They have used API credits to reward reviewers, then went on to remove the API credits a couple of months later. Now they are paying blog writers.

The bigger issue is that the app is unsuitable for professional use, as all your data remains in the cloud. The capability to import from Zotero is also not as seamless as they say it is.

Those are comments that cannot be voiced, apparently. This is regrettable, as those things are entirely fixable and typically the kind of input you'd want to hear if you value user feedback and target professional users.

I want to share my frustrating experience with Afforai's affiliate program. After promoting their platform and driving traffic, I was supposed to receive my commission—but they never paid me!

Here’s what happened:

✅ I signed up as an affiliate and started referring users.
✅ I followed all their terms and generated commissions.
✅ When it was time to withdraw my earnings, they ignored my requests!
✅ Support gave vague answers and eventually stopped responding.

It’s clear that Afforai does not honor their affiliate payments. If you’re considering promoting them, beware! They may refuse to pay you, just like they did to me.

🚨 Warning to all affiliates: Stay away from Afforai! Don’t waste your time and effort promoting a company that scams its partners.

Afforai is amazing, particularly for research but for so many other uses as well. No matter the rabbit hole, topic or use case.

An exquisite fusion of AI and an extensive library of your own documents, combined with Google scholar, Google too. The ability to not only cite papers but chat with them is both remarkable and incredibly useful, inspiring more work and ideas.

Wonderfully intuitive set up, that keeps everything organised, regularly updated software by equally inspired developers, extremely swift support (Alec never seems to sleep!).

So grateful. They have created something truly exceptional. Highly recommended.

The founders promote themselves as poor immigrants trying to survive and at the same time take glory on making millions in a few months from a product that is largely overpriced. I find this disgusting.
