Avoid!

Avoid!

Just don't bother applying here especially the North Liverpool Office. The worst company I've worked for in my life time hands down and I've seen some shity ones but this takes the crown. First it starts with lying to you during the interview. Come in for a different role then they try and pin domiciliary care on you. Secondly they tell you they've got enough shifts bla bla bla...good luck with that. Now let's move to training after getting a job. The trainer tells you all manner of sweet and interesting things about the company (lies). How different they are from all other care companies; they do things this way, do things that way. Sounds really good but they're just reeling you in. I've never seen a company let staff go without informing the staff. No common decency to call or at least mail the staff that their services are no longer required. Imagine waking up to a p45 without you even knowing you've been made redundant. Challenged them about their irresponsible act and they started trying to save face. It was hilarious hearing them blatantly lying about trying to reach me on the phone but suddenly "couldn't". What happened to my email could you not have sent a message there? Phone operator couldn't talk coz she wasn't expecting me to come prepared with facts. Anyways you're better off being unemployed than working for a company like this and if i could rate it anything lower than 0 - on the negative side, I gladly will. If you read this and still go ahead then it's on you. Cheers

Also clients is everywhere more traveling then actualy doing job, not paying for traveling time, some distances send to 50min from one client to another for half hour call, shedules changing every day so you don't know where you will be working until the morning also in morning is not guaranty as they can change last minute. Managment in Wrexham was nice but from other offices calling you and not such a nice staff there.

Working at Alcedo Care really is…

Working at Alcedo Care really is amazing! From starting in 2021, i have been given so many opportunities to grow, develop and the training is fantastic!

Seeing the level of support and service our clients receive is so humbling. From promoting independence, supporting with day to day routines and allowing people with complex needs to come home from hospital too. The company regularly invest in upgrading services to provide the clients with a better service. I would 100% recommend both staff and service users to use Alcedo Care.

Awful to work for

Worked for them back in 2022. I was leaving a steady job at NHS for them and thought I was making a good decision, as I bought in to all the hype. On my induction, I quickly learned how bad the company really is. Bullying from managers who aren't even suitably qualified for their own jobs. Money hungry owners who are uncaring about both staff and clients. Managers pushing staff and clients to write fake reviews about how "good" Alcedo is, which is all lies. Constant mess ups with wages, sometimes not being paid at all. Pressuring carers who "won't turn down work" to do more and more work. Expecting you to come in on days off and work unpaid from home and not following safe working guidelines re hours. Zero hours contracts. The branch I worked at in Morecambe I believe has now closed down, as its reputation caught up with itself in such a small town, with plenty of much BETTER care companies to work for. I quit the job after about 3 months of hell working there.

This is my experience working for…

This is my experience working for Alcedo:

Subpar Training

The level of training provided to both carers and office staff is shockingly inadequate. New hires are expected to perform duties that require a certain level of expertise, yet they are thrown into challenging situations with little to no preparation. This not only creates a risk for the staff but, most importantly, for the vulnerable clients we are entrusted to care for.

Toxic Work Environment

The work culture at Alcedo is nothing short of toxic. Staff morale is consistently low due to the lack of support, recognition, and respect from both management and colleagues. Managers frequently neglect their role in guiding and assisting carers, and there is a clear lack of accountability across the board.

Unworkable Rotas & Unsafe Staffing

The rotas provided are often complicated, confusing, and completely unworkable. This not only makes it difficult for staff to plan their personal lives but creates a dangerous environment where carers are overworked and understaffed. Staffing levels are far below what is required for safe and effective care delivery, leaving clients at significant risk.

Managers are often forced to step in and take on care duties themselves due to the lack of staff, which further exacerbates the problem. This also highlights a clear mismanagement of resources and an inability to properly support the frontline workers who are supposed to be delivering quality care.

Forced to Work While Sick

It is appalling that staff are regularly forced to work even when they are unwell. There is little regard for the health and wellbeing of staff, and the expectation to push through illness is not only unreasonable but unethical. It is irresponsible to put staff in such a position, especially when the quality of care for clients is directly tied to the health and mental state of the carers.

Excessive Travel & Inadequate Area Management

Carers are also regularly expected to travel unreasonable distances outside of their designated areas. This not only wastes time and resources but also results in burnout for staff who are required to manage long commutes and exhausting workloads without proper support.

Financial Gain at the Expense of Clients' Safety

One of the most concerning issues is the company’s blatant disregard for the wellbeing of clients in pursuit of financial gain. Despite ongoing issues with staffing and training, the company continues to take on new care packages, further stretching already under-resourced teams. This practice puts both existing clients and staff at significant risk and demonstrates an utter lack of ethical responsibility.

Cancellation of Care Calls

To make matters worse, office staff are forced to cancel care calls due to the inadequacy of staffing, which directly affects clients’ access to essential services. The impact of this cannot be overstated, as it compromises both the safety and dignity of those who rely on care.

The practices at Alcedo are not only unsustainable but also dangerous, unethical, and detrimental to both staff and clients. It is clear that the company’s priorities lie in financial profit rather than the quality of care and the welfare of its employees.

Yp issues … next door

We have really enjoyed living in our house for the last 35 years … yp joined end of Jan … we have not been informed of change of usage … she can intimate us, threaten damages & then literally on several occasions drowning us with hose pipe through fence & on Wed the yp surpassed herself & drowned us all at a family bbq to celebrate my husbands retirement … we also have care guarding issues with granddaughters of 9 months & 6. … my daughter stood up & requested that this behaviour stop as unacceptable to literally get a a full frontal facial attack … a male carer did offer an apology of sorts … she can be impulsive! This yp behaviour would appeal to be progressively deteriorating & becoming more aggressive. My daughter in law specialises in this area of medicine & personally experienced the yp’s water attack through the fence & followed by full frontal attack at my daughter above fence

One star- unethical and unsafe practice

My experience working with Alcedo Care was deeply disappointing and concerning. I was made to work seven weeks straight without a single day off, which is not only exhausting but also completely unsustainable. The company consistently prioritized profit over the wellbeing of both staff and clients. They frequently took on care packages they were clearly unable to accommodate, operating far over capacity.

To fill gaps, they brought in staff from England who lacked the necessary training and manual handling qualifications required to work in Wales—putting both staff and vulnerable clients at risk. Office staff were regularly pushed to work 17-hour days, and care staff were made to work illegal hours just to ensure packages were covered. There was a complete lack of compassion, both for clients who deserved better care and for employees whose mental and physical health were clearly disregarded.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this company to anyone—whether as a client or a potential employee.

Think twice - please !

I cannot believe my mother’s care has come to this! The promises made when I met with an Alcedo associate to employ the company, were so sadly missed. I had many meetings after they started, which was initially fine but grossly deteriorated as time went on. Inconsistency of the times of arrival when medications need to be dispensed made my mother agitated and worried that they were not coming, they were contracted to do 1 hour am and 1 hour evening.
The mornings should have been get up, get showered, dressed, and come down for breakfast then have her meds. The time left should have been focussed on the tasks I was asked to specify to help mums' daily life. They were also asked to prep her lunch (all provisions were available) bread fillings salad items - but was rushed and no initiative was evident, who wants a plain dry sandwich!
The evenings were a little better but not much! The time was better adhered to, the carers were all lovely to mum and she liked them.
There is a huge failing in the administration system, it seems like it needs a massive overhaul and restructuring, with staff that really know what they are doing. This failing came to a head when at the weekend a morning visit to mum was not assigned (no one down to visit) leaving us unaware, and her not fed washed or meds taken.
How can this be right? We no longer employ Alcedo Care.

Terrible experience with St Asaph and Chester office staff

Terrible experience with Alcedo St Asaph and Chester office.

My daughter is 19 and severely disabled with complex care health needs, I am a single mum to her and her main carer she requires 24/7 care, Alcedo Care were given her package of 28hrs rising to whatever would be needed. They advertise themselves as being a patient led/tailored service which in our experience is absolutely rubbish !! The problems lie in the management and the way its being ran ! From the word go they knew what was required and how it needed to be delivered and they obviously said they could fulfil but it became very apparent very quickly that they couldn't,! all they care about is money they billed us for sending staff we couldn't use but insisted on being paid, and whatever you do DO NOT HAVE A GOOD FRIENDLY RELATIONSHIP with the carers coming into your home because they don't like it !! They change staff as close as 15 minutes before shifts, I felt my daughter was just another call so if you or your loved one wants or needs consistency then Alcedo Care is NOT the company to go with. Also they will terminate your contract so easily without a thought for your loved one or their families ... this is based on our personal experience and is a total shame because the actual carers that come into your home are lovely and trying their best, the problems lie within the management and the logistics! Absolutely shameful behaviour from a company that is meant to help the most vulnerable!!

Untrustworthy & Unresponsive

We asked Alcedo Trafford for a care package for our elderly father who, due to having a fall, had become unsteady on his feet. Though we initially found Aldeco staff to be friendly and helpful, the administration was full of contradictions and inconsistencies which made it very difficult to get a straight answer to any queries. Avoidance became the usual response. This raised serious concerns over Alcedo’s ability to provide the service.

A number of visits had no reports or proof that they had actually taken place, but Alcedo insisted on billing us for them, threatening to withdraw services if we did not pay. One particular visit was missed due to carer lateness and although Alcedo cancelled the visit and promised that we would not be charged, we were billed. A number of emails followed querying the bill and eventually we refused to pay for this particular missed visit. Alcedo terminated the contract.

We are so disappointed with the way this company have dealt with our queries about the undocumented visits that we have reported our experience to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) who are now looking into our complaint. We had intended to contact the Government Ombudsman to mediate, as advised by the CQC however, since the care contract has now been cancelled by Alcedo, this course of action is closed to us.

We have found Alcedo to be a company who prioritise financial gain over care and accountability. They lost our trust which raised serious concerns over the welfare of our father. We feel it is our duty to highlight our experience and needless to say, we would not recommend this company to anyone.
