if i could give ZERO stars i would. Terrible experience after 18 years of business with them.
Already having 5 basic business accounts, we opened another. Explained we would be connecting to QuickBooks and having a high volume of deposits come in, as we were in a merger and acquiring about 21 existing clients. America first has by far been the worst experience we have ever had. Quickbooks is suspeneded and they are of no help. Its been 2 weeks , every day, phone calls for hours with multiple team members and no resolution or answer and they don't allow us to speak to IT.

America First is rejecting the deposits coming from QuickBooks; they have accepted 5 out of the 24 deposits to come through. Stating we have the incorrect account number... however, the others came through just fine. We even made sure to have our deposits below 10K to help. QuickBooks is suspended, America first states it takes 45 days for a special request after we asked for a letter that the account is not negative and in good standing.....a simple letter... 45 days. No IT available, no answers, no help and instead insulting questions "Are you sure you have the 12 digit account number correct?" "Can you refresh your page?" ..... like WHAT on earth are we talking about people? Having asked to speak to managers and being on hold for hours, call backs not happening.... we are going on 2 weeks of dealing with this terrible experience and over 165K that cannot be deposited into our account .... our QuickBooks frozen so we also can no longer accept payments... being charged for every rejected transaction.... and ZERO accountability or even effort from AF....

The worst credit union - do not use!

The worst credit union I’ve ever worked with! Be prepared to be on hold for 45min+ any day - and their phone system is AI based so you can’t get through.

I bought my car from my mom last year. For the last 5 months, I’ve been trying to get title documents to be able to take to the DMV to get the car in my name at the state level. America First employee (Ben) called me 2 weeks ago stating he was sending the paperwork to a court house and I would need to go there to pick it up. I then went to pick it up, and the court house stated they didn’t have anything. I checked the tracking link of the shipment and it looked like it was actually sent to the DMV. In the process of waiting at the DMV for 2hrs, I called the title department and spoke with a Heather who was completely rude. She argued with me for 10min stating the tracking link stated it was delivered to the Court House - not the DMV even though I was sitting in front of the woman at the DMV saying that they didn’t know where the documents were shipped. I finally hung up on Heather as she continued to talk over me and offered no help. I work in customer service, and it was probably one of the worst examples of customer service I’ve ever encountered. Finally, the DMV lady (after two hours) tracked down that the paperwork was in fact sent to them and not the court house. To make it even better - the DMV lady also confirmed the credit union didn’t list the sales purchase price on the back of the title so now they have to get that resolved.

All in all, DO not work with this credit company. It’s not worth your energy!

went down hill and hadn't gotten better

have been with America First for over 20 years. The first 15 years were great, but now they are terrible. Member service has drastically declined. They are either rude or do not read or listen to what is said. I applied for a car loan, and they wanted a 3% higher interest rate than all the other credit unions I applied to. My home equity is at an outrageous rate, which makes it hard to pay off. And today... Oh, today. They took out double charges for everything that went through. I feel sorry for those who have less money than I do, and I am not rich, but I just imagine this morning was difficult for them. I am done!

Oh and dear AFCU, don't reply with fake feedback, claiming you care about our members, etc. You know you don't. You used to, but you don't now. How many more sports arenas do you need?

bad credit union

Hello,

I will not go in detail what has accrued with your Losey bank.
Yesterday, my wife tried to purchase a oven from Home Depot for $1,886.78. The transaction was declined. I called AFCU (last credit union), and I spent over one hour waiting in queue for a representative to answer. Then she spent another 15 minutes interrogating me with her stupid and endless verification answers. Finally, after this inquisition, I was told that amount was high and I was blocked. She removed the block and advised me to go back to Home Depot and run that transaction again.
Today, I just did that. Once again, my transaction was declined. I called the horrible AFCU and waited for almost an hour, then transferred to another representative and a long wait and the lady refused to cancel my credit card. She wanted to drill me for a whole list of questions, just to proceed. I give up on this rotten bank. Bad service, bad customer service and a piss poor CEO.
Cut up my credit card and away with America last credit untion.

Costumer service is at best is poor

Costumer service is at best is poor. I went to the Millcreek branch to have a “Medallion Signature Guarantee”. They indicated that they couldn't do a “Medallion Signature Guarantee” and they sent me (after waiting/wasting the first half hour with no one in front of me in the queue) to the South Salt Lake branch. I waited there for an hour. Over 6 people came and left after I was there. They were all helped and left. Finally, someone started to help me; however, it wasn't the person who could do the “Medallion Signature Guarantee”. At the same time, they said that this was an incomplete document and I couldn’t get a “Medallion Signature Guarantee”. What a waist time! America First has poor costumer service (I would rate as a ZERO if I could).

They Fudge Numbers

If I could give zero stars I would. My husband and I have a joint account, but they only let one of us be able to view the account through the app on our phone. Moreover, the account could say there's $280 after pending charges. But after it all posts, the account goes negative. EVEN THOUGH nothing is different. When we ask the bank about it, they're just like "Oh yeah. That happens sometimes. It's normal. The pending amount isn't exact." Oh yeah? Well, I think America First has someone in the basement fudging numbers to steal money from its members. Stay away at all costs.

Unprofessional and sketchy Bank

We had a camper through them for 3 years. They kept raising our monthly payments. My husband tried to talk to them they refused to talk to him about it. We had tried to contact them because they kept screwing up our auto pay. We ended up 2 months behind. They claimed we didn't communicate but they called my husband, who is a log truck driver, while he had no service. They never answered the calls from him. They called from sketchy numbers, they were rude. They repoed our camper on Friday and told us we had to pay the entire amount to get it back. They refused to work with us. They were unprofessional, rude. I would want anyone who might think of doing business with them to be aware of how shady and sketchy they are. I worked at a bank myself and everything they did was not legal. We received zero notification of them repossession our camper. No warnings just rudeness. They are there for themselves not the customers.

Zero fraud protection horrible customer service

I used to think this was a good bank, and I felt safe with them. However, that is no longer the case. Their fraud protection is terrible. I did everything I was supposed to do, but they did nothing to help me. The representatives were rude and condescending. They claimed my case was denied because the information matched mine, but of course it did— it was my credit card that was compromised! If they took the time to do some research they would have seen my last name was spelled wrong. Now I’m stuck paying for the fraud.
I even filed a police report and tried to contact the merchant, but this bank has been utterly useless. In the end, they will lose my business, as my entire family is leaving this bank, and that's a significant amount of money moving elsewhere. They cannot stand by their fraud protection or support their customers.
I will spend every day writing reviews and posting on social media to make sure everyone else knows as well.

HELOC nightmare

I got an HELOC with them 5 years ago when interest rates were ~3%. I was thinking of using it now for a renovation, and they said the interest rate is variable. Which is fine. They said it's based on current variable rates. Ok, in my mind I thought 6-8%, to give them a bit of a premium (they gotta make money after all).

Keep in mind that an HELOC is an asset-backed line of credit so rates should be similar to mortgage rates since the underlying collateral is the same. Maybe a little higher since the HELOC is a senior tranche of debt (it's not a first lien on the house, the mortgage is so a bit more risky)

Well, guess what? They charge 1.25% interest PER MONTH!!!!!! That's an effective 16% interest rate per year. Are they nuts??? Some credit cards charge less, lol.

Why do they charge a rate similar to credit cards for a line of credit that has my freaking house as collateral??????????

I'll never use them. Not now, not ever.

I will NEVER use America First Credit…

I will NEVER use America First Credit Union again. Their practices are completely unreliable and dishonest. I was lied to multiple times by different representatives, given conflicting information, and left in the dark when it mattered most. They clearly do not value their members or operate with any integrity. If you're looking for a trustworthy financial institution—keep looking. This place is a nightmare.

Avoid America First Credit Union – Dishonest, Incompetent, and Unethicalvoid America First Credit Union

Avoid America First Credit Union – Dishonest, Incompetent, and Unethical
In October 2024, we applied for a mortgage with America First Credit Union (AFCU). By December, we received loan approval and were given authorization to provide a deposit and sign a letter of intent with our contractor to begin engineering on our new home build. We moved forward in good faith, trusting AFCU’s commitment.
However, on February 20, 2025, after weeks of zero communication from our loan officer, we contacted AFCU for an update. We were shocked to learn from a mortgage department representative that our loan officer had been fired for incompetence. Wanting clarity, we reached out to him directly—only to discover that he had not been fired but instead laid off along with 30+ employees as part of a department-wide downsizing. To this day, he remains gainfully employed at another financial institution.
Following his departure, AFCU reversed our loan approval, forcing us to reapply—only to increase our interest rate from 7.375% to 9.5%. Our attorney has seen financial institutions use this tactic to deliberately disqualify borrowers from securing loans.
Major Data Breach – Negligence at Its Worst
Adding to their incompetence and complete disregard for our privacy, AFCU mailed our entire loan application via USPS in unsealed envelopes. This exposed highly sensitive personal data, including:
• Full names
• Date of birth
• Social Security numbers
• Home address & phone numbers
• Account numbers & balances
Anyone handling our mail could have accessed this confidential information, putting us at serious risk of identity theft and fraud.
Zero Accountability & Financial Harm
Due to AFCU’s dishonesty and negligence, we requested a refund of our deposit with the contractor, as their failures directly caused this financial and emotional distress. After three weeks of silence, AFCU finally responded—denying any refund or compensation.
From February 20, 2025, until today, AFCU has strung us along, leaving us in financial limbo as we scrambled to secure funding elsewhere. Instead of helping their members, they seem more focused on sports sponsorships than on ethical banking and customer service.
Final Warning – Stay Away from AFCU
We left a “big bank” after 40 years, believing a credit union would prioritize its members’ best interests. We were wrong. AFCU has severely impacted us financially, breached our trust, and caused unnecessary stress and suffering.
⚠️ BE WARNED: AFCU operates with dishonesty, incompetence, and a total lack of ethics. ⚠️
Avoid this institution at all costs.

AFCU- A.K.A The Mormon Bank

AFCU- A.K.A The Mormon Bank

I recently had a frustrating experience with AFCU (America First Credit Union), which I would caution others to avoid.

After purchasing a new vehicle, I needed to pay off my old car loan that was financed through AFCU.

However, when they received the check to pay off the loan, it was $51 short. Instead of contacting me to resolve the issue, they simply returned the check, leaving me in a position where I had to make a car payment to avoid late fees or negative marks on my credit.

Each time I called to inquire about the situation, the customer service was not only unhelpful, but also passive-aggressive, making an already frustrating situation worse.

This lack of communication and poor customer support was disappointing. It felt like I was being punished for something that could have been easily resolved with a quick phone call.

I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for financing. AFCU seems more interested in exploiting its position than providing good customer service or being transparent about their operations.

While they might call themselves a credit union, their practices feel more aligned with a corporate bank, and I’m skeptical about their ties to the LDS Church.

Whether or not they are directly affiliated, the institution's underlying culture is worth researching if you're considering doing business with them.

In my opinion, you’re much better off securing a pre-approval from a traditional bank when buying a vehicle. Avoiding AFCU could save you both time and frustration.

Predatory Sketchy Institution

If I could give negative stars I would. This bank is mega sketchy and abuse customer trust. They do not protect your finances AT ALL. An absolute disaster. American First Credit Union refuses to take responsibility for fraudulent charges, forcing me to go through the FTC and CFPB just to try and recover my money. It's been a complete nightmare trying to resolve these unauthorized transactions. They make you call them, file the claim hesitantly, and then take MONTHS to respond—yes, MONTHS—to your claim, and when they finally do, it’s through snail mail. On top of that, they pulled a hard inquiry on my credit report just to open an account, causing my score to drop. What’s even worse, they don’t provide any way to report issues, and when I tried to reach out to local or regional Utah regulators, there was no help. I’ve never encountered such problems with Wells Fargo or any other big bank, which is why I now understand why larger banks are at least relatively more trustworthy—they actually protect against fraudulent and unauthorized charges. American First Credit Union, on the other hand, is shady, unaccountable, and completely indifferent to the financial security of its customers. They have far too much power and use it to exploit and abuse their clients. Do NOT trust them—this is a predatory, corrupt institution.
