Such a wonderful place...
I received my 200 hour yoga teacher training at the ashram last summer and it was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. It was challenging, invigorating, expanding and fun. Being able to experience ashram life and live as part of a community was such a great backdrop to studying yogic philosophy.
Disconnecting and living off grid was a huge opportunity for my personal growth. I've never been to Northern BC and did not pack appropriately. No rain gear and only some Birkenstocks on my feet. My mind raced with thoughts of how uncomfortable my poor packing skills were going to make me. I resisted the urge to ask someone to drive into town for more supplies. Then slowly those thoughts started to go away and I just accepted my current state of being. Whether that was being wet, or having my sandals get stuck in the mud making me miss morning kriyas, or wearing the only warm pair of yellow sweat pants over and over again. It was liberating. I learned that my obsession with comfort was extremely uncomfortable.
The nature up there is indescribable. The walk to the Nass River, the forest temple, being surrounded by gorgeous glacial mountains. And no internet! Holy moly no internet sounds scary but to be without it for a while was so refreshing. Once a week the wifi was turned on and it was palatable.
Bhairav, Artemis, Ishvari, Chokyi, and Tara are such wonderful teachers. The material was treated with the utmost respect and while feeling traditional it never felt prescriptive. The karma crew and long term members of the ashram made the environment so inviting. I am so grateful that I got to hang out with such awesome people. Oh! If you like music the Kirtan and dining hall jam sessions were amazing!
If you are looking for a unique yoga teacher training seriously Anuttara is special. I hope to come back to do my 300 hour teacher training one day!
