Dan was extremely helpful with my family court matter. He took the time to listen, explained everything clearly and offered additional support when I needed it. I was doing research of barristers for my child arrangement court case as solicitors were too expensive. I got in touch with Barrister4U and Sophie was the main contact. From day one, she has been absolutely fantastic and has really helped me a lot. They found a barrister for a decent price and they created my court documents. I would highly recommend them especially if you are looking at cuttings costs by instructing a barrister instead. Make sure to ask for Sophie, lovely person and genuinely seems to care about your case.

I would not recommend Barrister4u based on my experience. First, my communications with the clerk about what I was paying for were unclear and ultimately very different from what I understood before booking: I specifically asked about the skeleton argument and was told that counsel would explain when he would draft it with me, and I understood the service to include reading the papers and a pre-hearing conference, but after I had paid I was told that drafting the skeleton was not included and would cost extra. I could not afford another fee and ended up preparing it myself at considerable time and effort. Second, I was extremely disappointed with the barrister’s preparation and representation. I did not receive the meaningful pre-hearing conference I expected, he told me shortly before the hearing that there was not enough time for him to go through my amended Particulars, and during the hearing I did not feel that the skeleton argument I had spent so much time preparing was relied upon or that important parts of my case were properly presented. The barrister created his own argument, in my view he could have made his own skeleton argument. He also had sound/connection difficulties during the remote hearing to the point the judge commented it was not sufficient. My complaint is not simply that the hearing was unsuccessful; it is that the professional service and preparation I received were not what I reasonably believed I had paid for.

Appeared to be very knowledgeable about most matters.

I asked them to draft an application to the crown court. As I had concerns with them being reticent regarding a quote for advocacy, I decided to get another firm who immediately said that they can’t represent me in the current format of the application. The respondent also saw many mistakes in the application which was incomplete and it lacked a skeleton argument. I had to ask first an adjournment.

Furthermore, in another matter, I paid them to review my JR Application and police property act application. When I chased them for a response, Darren Thomas said that counsel said it was good, however failed to provide any documentation of that fact.

My complaints to them has gone unanswered and will be escalating it to the Legal Ombudsman. I want reimbursement

In response to Barristers4U’s late response I say this:

Thank you for your response.

I do not accept your account of events and maintain that the service I received fell below the standard I was entitled to expect.

With regard to the Crown Court application, I approved the draft and filed it because I relied entirely on the expertise of the specialist barrister you had instructed. I am not legally qualified, I have autism, and I have no specialist knowledge of Crown Court procedure or the documents required for such an application. It was therefore reasonable for me to rely on your professional advice and the work produced on my behalf.

It was only after I consulted an independent firm of barristers regarding representation that I became aware of significant concerns with the application. They informed me that they were unable to represent me on the basis of the application in its existing form because, in their view, it was incomplete and unsuitable. They also advised that it lacked a skeleton argument. In addition, the respondent identified numerous contradictions within the application and witness statement that had been prepared by counsel instructed through Barristers4U. As a result, I had to seek an adjournment.

Your assertion that I approved the document does not alter the fact that I was entitled to rely upon the professional competence of the barrister you instructed. I was not in a position to identify deficiencies that later became apparent to independent legal professionals.

In relation to the Judicial Review and Police (Property) Act matters, I instructed counsel to review my draft applications. I did not receive any written advice, amended documents or any record of the review. When I chased for an update, I was simply informed by telephone that counsel considered the documents satisfactory. Subsequently, I realised that it was neither appropriate nor necessary to pursue those proceedings because the Police voluntarily returned my property, rendering the proposed applications academic. In my view, I paid a substantial fee yet received no tangible evidence of the work said to have been undertaken.

I also disagree with your suggestion that I did not previously express dissatisfaction. My concerns developed only after obtaining independent legal advice and after the deficiencies in the Crown Court application became apparent. It would have been impossible for me to raise concerns that I was unaware existed at the time.

Finally, I note that my complaints were not dealt with promptly. My correspondence raising concerns went unanswered for a considerable period, which I consider to be poor complaints handling and has only reinforced my dissatisfaction with the service I received.

As I remain dissatisfied with both the quality of the work and the handling of my complaint, I intend to refer the matter to the Legal Ombudsman once I become eligible to do so. I will provide the Ombudsman with all relevant correspondence and documentation so that the matter can be independently assessed.

I continue to seek reimbursement of the fees paid in respect of the services about which I have complained.

I contacted Barristers4U for a speeding offence on behalf of a family member and Danny was a great help offered great advice even with no money exchanging hands. His advice helped us complete the paperwork and the end result was the best we could ask for.

Even after the result came through, Danny was still helpful when I called again for support and seemed genuinely interested in how things turned out.

One star. I instructed counsel and paid the full fee for representation at what was originally listed as an in-person hearing. The hearing was subsequently changed to a remote hearing at short notice, yet the level of advocacy and challenge I received fell well below my expectations. Key documentary evidence was not tested with sufficient rigour and several important judicial findings were left largely unchallenged. I expected robust representation and active engagement with the issues in dispute, particularly given the complexity of the case. Instead, I left feeling that significant points had not been properly advanced on my behalf. Considering the fee paid, I do not believe the service represented value for money.

I did not uses barista 4 you. Something went wrong. I will not slander anyone’s name. I’ve got enough problem. I am a child of God I believe in honesty integrity I do not slender people but if I did use him or barrister for you then I would have something to say, but we didn’t go further than trying to exchange money

This is the only place where they would actually listen fully and consider my case before asking for money. I know they have been really thorough and considered everything I have said. They have helped considerably and were more reasonably priced than using a solicitor.
