No longer offer a service for private individuals - don’t waste your time.
I thought I was being really stupid - having read lots of reviews (some good, some bad) I thought I’d take a closer look. I wasted a whole lot of time looking for a “sign up” page but kept getting to some foofah about corporate customers. Turns out in the UK, Billhop no longer offer a service for private customers, but haven’t bothered to put anything on their web site to say “sorry, if you’re looking for this, we don’t do it any more”. Just rude and a time waster.
Is Billhop UK respecting FCA rules ?
I used Billhop before and had no issues but since the creation of Billhop UK Limited which is registered at the offices of elementventures.vc the service has become diabolical.
Despite having a UK office it does not seem to be registered with the FCA and still operates under Billhop AB with FCA Reference number: 748529
My experience and the raft of complaints below about taking payment incl fees then cancelling then waiting for refund is not only a terrible user experience that is not being resolved but may be in breach of the Temporary Permissions Regime (TPR) "This firm cannot hold or control client money”
Basically useless for an individual
Basically useless for an individual. I thought this would be a great way to manage cashflow but basically as an individual you can’t make any payments. They advertise it as you can pretty much pay anything but actually you can’t. And you find that out the hard way. Thank goodness I only did a small test transaction first to learn this. As people say they make it appear as payment is ok, take your money and their fees, then cancel your transaction and make you wait for s refund.

Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible.
They take payment then keep cancelling transfers after a week!
They should make their checks before taking payment and shouldn’t accept transfers they can’t execute!

Billhop are just fantastic. I can now pay all my HMRC bills and earn loads of Avios. Efficient, reliable service.
This service is awful never use it
This service is awful, they failed to process my payment 2 times and now my credit card is blocked because of this company! This is outrageous

A great service
Good improvements when it comes to the new platform, like the new look and feel. Easier to pay your invoices via Billhop than via the bank.
I'm not usually one to post reviews but…
I'm not usually one to post reviews but I feel that some of the reviews left here are not indicative of my experience using Billhop. I mainly use Billhop to pay my University tuition fees and have never experienced any issues. My school always gets paid promptly on the date that I have selected. Billhop has made it clear on their site as well as their user account that it will take a few days for payments to be paid out so I think some of the negativity that they are getting is rather unjustified. Just my two cents but I do think they're worth a shot!

The big problem in this site is that they take long days to do the transactions.
and if they are not approved they took 5 days to tell you that, and more 5 days to do the refund.
Is just ridiculous, also the support is made by only 1 person that take hours to respond.
Is useless if you need it a fast service

Time is money. And this company take hell lot of time to process the payment as well as for confirmation of payment. The due days are like bad days.
And next will be refunds. It’s ridiculous. I wish I never used this service. I hope my money gets to the recipient as promised by customer service. Its so embarrassing to get calls for payments later from the vendors.
Not an honest app
Not an honest app. I made a payment to a bank (i didnt know that this was not allowed), but instead of blocking the transaction right away, they processed it and after a day they ask me for a copy of the invoice. A couple of hours later they told me the transaction could not be processed and they will refund me, but it will take 3 to 5 days. Meanwhile the full amount incl fee is written of my creditcard. Very bad app and i will never use it. I also recommend people not using this app.

Billhop has the potential to be an excellent service, but unfortunately a few silly technical issues make it only mediocre. Sometimes the beneficiaries argue they have not received the money, but the problem is they can't locate the payment because Billhop cuts the reference number to 18 digits (and we use reference numbers longer than that in Finland). Another problem is that sometimes the credit card verification refuses to work, and all it takes is some fiddling with the screen resolution or scrolling down to get it started. If you forget to do this, you may think you paid even though you didn't. Finally, entering the date for timed payments is also screen resolution dependent. At some zoom levels it's not possible to enter it. It is possible to work around all these quirks, but I wish they just fixed their software!
Shocking service
Shocking service, I requested a bill be paid by 4th April, when i checked the bills status the display showed it will be paid until the 11th. This is of no used to me as the bill it was paying needed to be there by 7th April so i will to find an alternative way of paying. Thanks Billhop

I have used Billhop a few times, and thought I had found a great solution. However you can only really measure a company by how they handle support when things go wrong. I tried to make a simple transaction via Amex, which took over an hour, and which kept getting declined. Support is only available during Swedish working hours and they had some obvious technical problems going on with both their app (suggesting Paypal was an option when it is now) and via their website and system speed. IF YOU CAN AVOID - DO!

Very useful service, good, friendly and immediate customer service!
You reach the support during business times immediately via chat.
The fees are a bit high. Maybe they could integrate a discount. Higher spending, lower fees.
Poor website. Excessive compliance checks. Avoid.
In summary: Poor website with errors. Excessive compliance checks. Causing delays to payments and wasting your time.
I have had a billhop account for a couple of years, albeit i only use intermittently.
This time when i used the website,
1) it kept defaulting to the swedish website even though i selected the GB link
2) i had to setup my payments multiple times and add my card multiple times as the website experienced errors
3) I had paid my rent previously using Billhop. However, this time they wanted a full copy of the tenancy agreement which they requested only a few hours before the payment was supposed to be processed and hence my payment did not go through.
4) items 2 & 3 caused my payments to be late and wasted my time.
5) fees are now quite high for the service provided.

Payment frozen pending invoice
I've given Billhop a 5 star review in the past and I'm still immensely grateful for their service however, when I recently used them to pay a plumber's invoice, they held the payment pending me producing the invoice.
My point is why not demand that when the payment is put through initially? It resulted in the plumber's payment taking 4 working days, not 2 (not counting the intervening weekend). The plumber no doubt now believes I'm an unreliable customer and is likely to think twice before accepting jobs from me in future.
Admittedly, I had forgotten to update Billhop with my new mobile when I recently changed my number, which would have meant verification codes getting through and me not using the workaround of setting up a new account with another email (that I don't often check), which didn't help matters as I missed the email from Billhop requesting the invoice.
