Avoid this garage at all costs.

Bittaford car sale are very friendly when selling you a car, but the customer service disappears the moment any faults arise. I was sold a vehicle with significant issues, despite the garage claiming it had passed a full health check.

Shortly after purchase, extensive corrosion was discovered, suspension components failed, and major gearbox faults left me stranded in a live lane on a dual carriageway. Rather than taking responsibility and upholding my consumer rights to repair or refund the car, they repeatedly tried to push me towards a third-party warranty with limited cover that wasn’t worth the paper it was printed on and avoided dealing with the problems themselves.

They even blocked me from contacting them when trying to come to an arrangement with them.

The whole process became a lengthy and stressful battle. I was forced to buy and insure another vehicle because the one they sold me was unsafe to drive. The only reason I recovered most of my money was through a Section 75 credit card claim. Had I paid entirely by debit card or bank transfer, I would likely have lost thousands.

An impartial and independent inspection by Automotive Consulting Engineers Limited (ACE) found that from the extent of the issues when they inspected the vehicle, the faults were present/developing at the point of sale.

This garage talks a good game when making a sale, but in my experience, they do not stand behind the vehicles they sell. I would never use them again and would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Update – Response to the blatant lies in your Reply

Length of Ownership
• The vehicle was purchased in late October, and all major faults arose within 3 months of purchase.
• All faults (corrosion, suspension, and gearbox) were reported to you within the first 3 months, and I was dismissed on several occasions.
• The vehicle became undrivable by the end of January.
• It is factually incorrect to state that I have owned it for “over 10 months” it hasn’t even been 8 months since the purchase.
• I spent approximately 6 weeks out of the country during the initial 3 months of ownership, meaning the vehicle was only used for around 6 weeks before becoming unusable.

MOT & Roadworthiness
• The MOT had been conducted over 6 months and 5,000 miles prior to the date of purchase, so it does not reflect the condition of the vehicle at the time of sale.
• An independent ACE inspection concluded that the faults identified were present and/or developing at the point of sale.

Payment Method
• I have successfully recovered the majority of my losses through my card provider and can provide evidence of this if required.
• You will be aware of this, as you stated to me that you would contest the claim with the bank if I pursued this route. However, when the bank attempted to contact you on two separate occasions, you failed to respond or provide any evidence to challenge my claim.
• I have no doubt that the bank will be, if they have not already been, taking steps to recover from your business the funds they reimbursed to me.
• Your policy regarding credit cards was added to your website shortly after I informed you that I intended to pursue a Section 75 claim.

Communication
• My experience of communication once faults arose was very different from the picture painted in your response.
• I was blocked on the Messenger app by your business, which was the platform used for all communication before and after the purchase.
• I retain evidence of all correspondence.

Honesty & Conduct
• My review is an honest account of my experience and is supported by independent evidence.
• Anyone wishing to verify the facts is welcome to contact me privately, and I will happily provide copies of the ACE report, repair receipts, diagnostic reports, communications between Bittaford Car Sales Ltd and myself, and other supporting documentation.

We are disappointed to read your comments, all the points you have stated are not accurate.

To clarify the situation for anyone reading:

Length of Ownership
You have had the vehicle for over 10 months. During that time, you did not report any gearbox issues to us at any stage. Had you raised these concerns, we would have followed our normal process and inspected the vehicle.
You did call us after 4 months worth of ownership and said you had a noise from your wheel and "think" it might be a coil spring without any evidence. When we explained to you this is a wear and tear item you became aggressive and threatened our staff member stating you was in the army and you became borderline racist which we don't tolerate towards our staff members.

MOT & Roadworthiness
The car had a valid MOT of 10 months at the time of sale. If any serious corrosion or structural issues had existed at that point, the vehicle would not have passed. The car also went through an extensive health check before handover.

Payment Method
We do not accept credit cards under any circumstances and never have, For this reason, your claim that you recovered money through a credit card provider is not correct.

Communication
We have never blocked you on any platform. We respond to all customers and have always been available to discuss any concerns.

Honesty & Conduct
We take pride in being an honest, family‑run business. We work hard to support customers fairly, and it is upsetting to see a review containing statements that are untrue.

We always encourage customers to contact us directly if they experience any issues so we can help. Posting inaccurate information online does not reflect the facts of the situation and is unfair to our business.

RESPONSE : Everything we have said in our review is true and we don't appreciate lying on a review or post fake information on reviews or constant harassment towards our staff. We have never accepted credit card ever! Also as stated from your review you said you don't have the car anymore. I will flag this with warranty and close down your warranty with immediate effect so their is no confusion going forward. As a private company we will not be responding to you or going back and forth as we don't deem this necessary. If you would like to discuss anything you know where we are or you can contact us directly as you are not blocked and never have been.

A first car fro my daughter

Bought a car for my daughter who had just passed her test. Was very happy with the service I received from the team at Bittaford and so far the car has lived up to expectations and my daughter is over the moon with it!

Be careful with this car sales

After spending a lot of money on a car from Bittaford Car Sales - within two months the vehicle was not driveable and we received no help from them. We subsequently lost over £3500. The warranty is not worth the paper it is written on and didn't cover us in any way. Following this we were forced to dispose of the car for spares.

Your vehicle developed an issue several months after purchase, and as a gesture of goodwill we provided you with £400 to help cover your full costs of the repair. This was done promptly and without hesitation, despite not being obligated to do so at that stage.

The warranty supplied with your vehicle is an award‑winning nationwide product used by many reputable dealerships across the UK. Like all warranties, it has clear terms and coverage levels, and the onus is on the customer to check what is and isn’t included. We are always happy to explain this at the point of sale.
Also after checking your vehicle is still on the road and is not as you say "disposed of for spares" We know this as you have tried to claim on the warranty recently. Why would you do this if you have disposed of the vehicle? We will flag this with the warranty in case of any further claims made.

staff were very helpful. Cars were in great condition for the age and reasonably priced.
Bought a vw polo for my sons first car and we are very pleased with it few months on now. Highly recommend this car sales.
