ERRONEOUS PROOF BRAINHQ WORKS
They tout the results of studies, but do not disclose that THEY funded the study and THEIR researchers ran the study. The results show very minor improvement (.02-.03) over the control group. As a user I can tell you why. Because the study made subjects use it an hour a day, therefore, they became FAMILIAR WITH THE INTERFACE. The program provides very poor interface, poor instructions, and NO practice sessions. I spend all my time trying to figure out what the actual goal IS, rather than attempting to accomplish THE GOAL. If subjects use it an hour a day, of course they get better at executing the goal...they, finally after repetition, become less confused about the task/goal and so it appears there is improvement. As well, the study did not compare against other brain training programs, nor did it compare to the known cognitive benefits derived from exercise, learning a language/instrument, dancing, nutrition, a faith practice, or socializing. They make the preposterous assumption that sitting on your butt 1 hour a day in front of a screen could provide long-lasting cognitive improvements or is better than the other known cognitive improvement practices. As a user, I can tell you that the only thing that they are rating in their improvement scale, is that the user gains improvements by figuring out what the goal of the task is...not whether you excel in the task. Ergo, after a month the subjects in the study FINALLY figure out the interface and goal task and, therefore, "improve" their scores. None of this is equal to "improved cognition." See the research yourself. It shows clearly what is considered a "small improvement," and I posit the reason for the improvement above. A lot of baloney for a fee. Read a book, take a walk, play cards or mahjong with a friend, dance, eat well, sleep well, don't drink alcohol, and don't eat over-processed food or lots of sugar. Take a multivitamin with minerals. Your cognition WILL improve as supported by real science and medical outcomes.
