Attentive, kind and supportive
I have always enjoyed writing and decided to find out more about freelance journalism, article writing, and publishing work for payment. I came across BCJ’s website and was taken aback at how professionally detailed and beautifully written it was.
I have never been so out of my comfort zone with each and every assignment.
However, I was always reassured and whenever I needed to ask for assignment advice, I was guided in a kind and generous manner. My tutor, Judy Yorke, gave friendly, supportive, and encouraging feedback. I learned so much from getting things wrong.
This course has given me an enormous amount of confidence in writing articles concisely, approaching editors, and the idea of having my pieces published eventually. I highly recommend BCJ with 5 stars. You will not just learn about constructive article writing, but the industry, all it entails and its niches of publishing.

An easy to follow, thorough and interesting course. You will be ready to hit the ground running as soon as you finish. Fantastic value for money.
A very thorough and interesting course - a great introduction to the industry, how it works and what is needed to succeed. The assignments were very helpful in setting you up to use in the real world. The flexibility was brilliant for me as I had no pressure from yet more deadlines and could do it all in my own time. The team were super efficient in getting back to any questions I had and I received assignment feedback within a couple of days, even over weekends.

Great course and kind team
I took the freelance journalism course offered by the BCJ, and I found it to be very helpful and informative while also doing an outstanding job of immersing me in the world of journalism. The course was carefully and thoughtfully structured in a way that best stimulated my curiosity and confidence, with the feedback that I received from each assignment offering insightful tips for how I can best improve my work. A thorough course where you're guaranteed to learn a lot, no matter your level
Even after years in the comms/marketing industry, there were still so many things I learnt from this thorough course. It pushes you to think outside the box and gives you confidence in your writing and freelance abilities.
Plus, the admin staff and tutors were always super communicative (as well as being very helpful and accommodating with some things I needed) - I really appreciated that!

Top tips to become a journalist
5-star course for journalists.
If you are looking to hone your skills as a journalist, this is the course for you. It gives you a realistic introduction to the world of freelance journalism.
The course has taught me a multitude of skills from conducting interviews to pitching editors, learning journalism jargon to improving my writing skills. It is jam packed with top tips and has left me brimming with ideas for unique articles.
The materials are professionally written, the staff are supportive, and the tutor, Judy, is second to none. She gives constructive feedback which really makes you reflect on your assignments, and I can see just how much I have improved under her guidance.
After a few assignments, I had really gained in confidence and have taken on authoring work as well as editing jobs in the past few months
I have just finished the course and hope to pitch an article soon so I can put everything I have learned into practice.
