customer service is awful

My Dad is an 85 year old who has terminal cancer. His phone and internet went down. The engineer went round and said it was working. It wasn't. They would not send someone round the same day despite it not working.

I called customer services and they were truly awful. the manager could answer any questions and was rude and would let me complain.

Emails Disappearing

Emails Disappearing.
It’s become extremely difficult to contact BT. It appears that they don’t want to talk to you anymore. My emails on my iPad and iPhone keep disappearing. I did communicate in the past using the complaint box but the problem wasn’t resolved. BT said they would raise the complaint. Approximately a week later they tell me they’re closing the complaint although the problem hasn’t been resolved. I’ve rang them and get virtual assistance. That doesn’t solve my problem. BT has declined rapidly since their partnership with EE.

BT don't care about customer service

After months of constant terrible broadband service I decided to move to a new provider who was half the price. I was told the switch would be easy, however it never is. I called BT just less than a month before the hand over because I didn't trust that things would go smoothly. I was told that there was nothing that I needed to do everything would be taken care of. You can imagine my surprise when I got charged for another month. So I called BT, I was told that they knew nothing about the new provider and I needed to cancel the account which takes 30 days!!!! So another month of paying for a service which I'm not using. BTs advice, take it up with the new provider. I have taken it up with my new provider who I'm not overly happy with their response however, everything else which they did was great. GIGACLEAR broadband is amazing, their installation team was great and the price is HALF that of BT.

Called BT today with a query (18.8.25) and whoever it is I spoke with had zero customer service skills whatsoever! She was shockingly rude, so I told my husband to ask to speak with a supervisor instead- thankfully he was so much better!

Good:

Good:
1. my experience: reliable broadband and phone line
2. great customer service with issues - these were ongoing following a lightning strike on a neighbour's house (eg our ADSL filter exploded in a spectacular fashion and the BT router died). Most of the repair work was down to Openreach, but BT customer service were great at keeping us informed)
BUT
I realised earlier this year that my ~£85/month contract (broadband + phone) was completely overpriced (Vodaphone quote for the same is £40).
BT wrote to me with amazing offers of save ~£2/month if I update my contract before it completes. Speaking to them on the phone they would not budge on the price.
...I waited until my contract is due to expire and gave BT the Vodaphone price (again). Hey presto the BT price is now £50/month.
I am sticking with BT for 2 reasons: less hassle (no new routers, etc) and my experience of the customer service is great. However, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to know that I am still paying £10 over the odds because BT are chasing new fickle customers (who will switch again in 2 years time) and not rewarding loyal customers. (+£10/month was actually my threshold for the risk/hassle of switching - they just got in under the wire)
Finally, thank you Aisha (BT Customer support) for making the case for my reduced charge.

BT Broadband - Zero management skills

We are moving house and agreed to end the BT broadband one month in advance, however BT are so badly managed and disorganised they cut us off 3 weeks early!! But they are still they charging us for the TV package until the end of the month. Every call takes over 1hr of your time to actually talk to a person : (

BT billed £50.31 for service already paid for and failed to resolve the issue

I have been using BT Broadband for almost 3 years now.
BT started billing me in advance for services from 15/03/2023, so 1st bill was from 15/03/2023 to 25/03/2023. And after that, I was regularly billed on the basis of 25 to 25 of each month.
Therefore, my 2d bill was on 25/03/2023. They sent me a new bill for 35.99 for services provided from 25/03/2023 to 25/04/2023 and so on.
I was told that the bill would be in advance for the period from the 25th to the 25th of the following month.
I decided to pay the bills a few days before the last day of payment, as paying after the 25th would have immediately incurred a huge penalty.

After my contract ended, I decided to stay with BT, even though the price without a contract was significantly higher. I was also informed by BT that I did not want to sign a new contract, as my house was for sale.
And I continued to pay my bills regularly, knowing that I was paying in advance, as before.
I paid on the 16th-18th of each month for a service that started on the 25th of each month in advance.

I moved out of my house on the 24th of July, knowing that my BT bill was paid in advance. I immediately called BT and told them I was moving out as the house was sold when a moving day had been agreed with all buyers in the sales chain. So they had been informed and set my service to cut off on the 25th of July.

The BT agent on the phone didn't warn me about any issues
She checked everything and said that all bills were paid (I already knew this) and asked me to send the smart hub, which I did. They received it very quickly and told me that the kit had been received.
To my surprise, I had received a bill for £50.31 as the final bill.
I was very surprised. I called the BT line, but they said my payment for June didn't show up in the system, and probably that was an issue. She saw that I paid, but the system didn't deduct the money.
I filed a complaint, and a few days later, they closed the case without explanation, adding a mysterious bill that I needed to pay.

I called back and suddenly they started saying that the bills were from the 16th to the 16th, but I was prepared because I went into my payment history when I started paying and I have good evidence that I started paying in advance on 23/03/2023 and my decision to pay early was interpreted as me having to pay from the 16th.
After talking to Debbie (the assistant on BT line) on the phone, I explained that I always pay in advance and I can choose any day to pay, it doesn't mean I was paying for the service from the 16th, as you have to pay much earlier than the service period provided.

I also mentioned that I have checked my payments with the bank through which I made the payment. Debbie said that they have no history of this as it was much earlier in their history.,
Yet, it is not my customer's problem. I have solid proof of when I started to pay upfront; it is on all my bank statements.
They took advantage of the moment when people are moving, and obviously, they have other things to do, and simply distorted the facts by charging a customer for a service that has already been paid for upfront.
SHAME!!!!

PS, a bit of news on this matter. After two weeks of trying to prove all my payments, I created Word documents including my bank transactions for each payment.
Today I received a response from BT: they finally closed my account with no outstanding charges.
I was both glad and sad: it took two weeks of my time and effort to prove that I always paid all my bills and did not owe anything to BT. And when I received confirmation of my proof from them today, I felt that it was simply unbelievable, surely wouldn't recommend BT to anyone. Although I had no issues with the broadband itself, the billing issues left a very bad aftertaste.

BT Cloud Phone is a Scam

BT Cloud Phone is a Scam – After 25 Years, I’ve Had Enough

I’ve been with BT since 1989 – over 25 years – and this is how they treated me.

During COVID, my restaurant business suffered. Even when we were closed, BT charged me £300–£400/month for Cloud Phone and broadband I didn’t use. When my contract ended in 2022, I asked to cancel. Instead, they renewed it without my permission or signature, just so someone could earn commission.

When I complained, they said I had to pay or I’d be blacklisted. I was forced to keep paying for another 3 years for a service I didn’t need.

Now they say if I don’t renew Cloud Phone again, I’ll lose the landline number I’ve had for 5+ years. Total manipulation.

After 25 years with BT, I’ve left for good. I’m now with Sky, paying much less for better service.
BT is dishonest, greedy, and takes advantage of loyal customers. Avoid them at all costs.

Customer Service Too Reliant on Bots

They don't offer fibre to the house in my area. I am paying £63/month for only a basic service and the only reason I am staying is to avoid changing my email address. Over reliance on bots and difficult to speak to a real person. Usually pretty good if you can get through to a real person. There is a confusing partnership with EE and not much benefit in swapping over.

There so called engineers cannot be…

Their so called engineers cannot be real engineers, they don't know what they are doing, must have had a dozen out in the last couple of years, then the last two, one said fault fixed-it was not the second said copper wiring along the road and called open reach, open reach took ten minutes to diagnose it and five minutes on the phone to fix it after years of bt engineers coming out. We had 9 megs of speed for the first time, but then it was 7 then 3 and now a few weeks later it keeps cutting out. so its back to the brilliant BT engineers again as they describe them.

Had nothing but issues with Bt broadband

Had nothing but issues with Bt broadband for a couple of years now. Signal drops all the times so effects digital phones as well. Constantly try all the usual troubleshooting. Tied into contract. I have tried to get out of but again they want a large fee. It doesn’t help when they keep suggesting other devices to sort the issue. Ultimately costing more money and extending the darn contract even more. Contacted them on numerous occasions. Given the usual line that it’s not their end. Have had to carry out factory reset after reset. Spent a fortune on their booster discs. Makes no difference. Then to add insult to injury they have increased the price which was already extortionate. Rock and hard place comes to mind. Absolute thieves. Let’s see how this factory reset goes. Don’t hold out much hope.

Non conjoined triplets.

BT, EE AND Openreach. Three companies purporting to be conjoined at all levels and to have systems fit for the 2025. These are three companies that only meet on headed paper or advertising.

I arranged to have broadband installed on the 17th june in my new flat. The move was delayed and i cancelled through BT but openreach still sent an engineer to an empty flat.
I arranged a new appointment for the 1st July. An engineer came at 9.30 and identified a cable cut. He said he could not do it but had a big van? He said another engineer would come. "PASSING THE BUCK" is a theme with these three companies. I waited for another 5 hours and eventually called BT. The "guide" from Accrington lied to me and told me he was on his way. An hour later i phoned a "guide" from Blackburn. She wa pleasant but merely prevaricated.
Up at 7 and nothing to show for 10 hours waiting.

On the 3rd i received an automated text saying they were coming tomorrow morning. Unbenown to me they send out automated texts to customers but don't send out to the Openreach roster system. Can you believe it? Th guide today told me this!
again i waited from 8 until 12.30. Half an hour of my time slot left. I knew in my gut they were not coming. I phoned BT and the guide told me my appointment was correct and that the engineers from openreach did not have my job.
It is 1.19 now and another 6 hours have been wasted through appalling customer service systems of BT EE and Openreach. A complete shambles and no one has apologised to me.

I honestly can't believe how this set…

I honestly can't believe how this set of incompetent idiots have had any positive reviews (if you look at BT, not openreach, perhaps they all filter down through there).

It started when we had their lines put in through Sky, we weren't in the house yet, but the engineer's antics were reported to us by our builders. Firstly we were asked if we were having a new driveway put in as the cable needed to be a certain depth so new tarmac etc wouldn't interfere with the underlying cable from the road. I told them we were so they put a note on the system that it needed to be sufficiently deep. When it came to installation day, the engineers came with no tools and moved dirt around with their FINGERS to make a few cm shallow trench to put the cable down to the house, then brushed it back over. This was instantly clear when we came to see how the building work was doing, so obviously we needed to get them out again (weeks later) with a digger to actually build a proper trench...First display of primary school level incompetency.

For context, between the border of our house/front garden and the public footpath, there's a grass verge owned by the council. For some reason, instead of putting the little plastic box that can be used by future engineers to access the fibre cable on the public footpath, like everyone else's is, they put it on the grass verge, which is regularly mowed by the council (only a teaspoon's worth of common sense would tell you this), so obviously, not seeing this, the lawnmower has gone over it, totally destroying the plastic housing and leaving the fibre wire sticking out, ready to be cut in half the next time the mower comes past.

Seeing this, I called Sky, who rightly told me Openreach need to put a proper housing unit on it (a concrete one) that won't be effected by the mower, as they installed it in the first place, it's their property and they need to sort it.

I had one guy come out a few months ago who agreed, made the notes on the system and said he'd sort it..that went down a black hole. A couple of weeks ago after chasing up and arguing with the call centre guys that it's not Sky who need to sort it, but them (this happens each time I call them, which is 4 or so now), another guy comes out to have a look, but he's a copper guy, not a fibre guy, and only fibre guys can sort this problem supposedly as it's a different company under the Openreach umbrella, but he'd chase things for me. He then leaves me a voicemail telling me his manager told me to call Sky (I told him face to face why that wasn't going to help). So i called again today and asked specifically for a Fibre guy to come out, and who comes out, a different copper guy who can't help but will see if he can ask a fibre guy to come out, but no promises because the copper side of the business and the fibre side can't contact each other for some idiotic reason (I don't believe this for one minute).

It's still not sorted and no one can be bothered taking responsibility, they pass the buck as they can't be arsed doing a proper job at any step of the process. They don't care that their customers are being passed from pillar to post and actively encourage this sort of behaviour by setting up the business in such a way that fosters this way of working.

I can see this problem never getting solved, I wish Sky had their own infrastructure but unfortunately they rely on these incompetent idiots.

Absolutely don’t care about customers.

Absolutely don’t care about customers.

Offer deals and then loose all communication and delete notes they have to take on every call, do not return calls, will absolutely try and pull your pants down at every turn.

I was offered a deal of big sport, fibre 2 & Netflix (basic) for £51.99/month I accepted the 24 month contract after having my pants pulled down for £76/month they have never honoured this deal apparently things “slip” off the system all the time, have tried to offer another deal after 3 phone calls & 4 hours of my life, advisors mostly don’t care and just want to pass you off to another department. However it’s not what I was offered and still want me to pay a lot more which isn’t right.

In conclusion, won’t stick to a deal, don’t call you back, charge whatever they want, big company arrogance. I will be leaving when my contact is up. Shocking company.

I would ask when I was on the phone by BT if I like to upgrade to fast broadband it ended up me waiting 64 days for them to upgrade it because two days I waited for nearly over five hours on both days no one turned up no communication whatsoever when I asked them what’s going on they didn’t have any idea or clue what is going on at the end day they are a big successful company who should be able to sort out this problem altogether and this is outrageous and stupid and I had had more problems in the past with BT and it is just ridiculous, but I’ve got someone from BT talking to me about my complaint when I finish, they’ll have to sit down and listen to me because the work they did was rubbish and it was rushed and not taking good care of
