Age-based screening raised concerns during roommate matching

I recently explored a short-term rental through Bungalow in the Denver area, specifically a Lakewood, CO listing near Sloan’s Lake, and had a concerning experience during the roommate matching process.

After a brief exchange, one of the current residents told me directly:
“We are looking for someone around our same age. We’re all young women with similar goals.”

This was shared before any meaningful questions were asked about my lifestyle, schedule, or compatibility. From my perspective, it felt like I was being screened out based on age rather than any actual assessment of fit.

For context, I’ve worked in live entertainment for over two decades, often living on tour buses and in shared environments with large groups under demanding conditions. Being tidy, respectful, and easy to live with isn’t new to me—it’s been essential to my work for years.

I recently returned to my home state and am simply looking for a short-term, respectful place to land while I transition into my next chapter. It was disappointing to be dismissed without any real conversation.

I would encourage Bungalow to provide clearer guidance to residents on evaluating potential roommates based on compatibility rather than assumptions, and to ensure the platform discourages exclusionary screening practices.

A fair process should include at least a basic conversation before making decisions that appear to be based on age alone.

Horrible property management company

Horrible property management company. They just start coming up with new fees not in your lease. Suddenly there is a utility fee after living here for two years. Suddenly they changed whether they charge a credit card fee for how you pay rent. They never tell me when they have maintenance coming and we have dogs in the yard. Additionally, they did not disclose vital, required health and safety information in the lease regarding exposure to toxic substances. Do NOT rent from this company.

Great experience finding housing through Bungalow

I had a really positive experience using Bungalow to find a room in Redwood City. The platform made it easy to explore available homes, schedule tours, and communicate with the host. Everything was well organized and the process felt smooth and transparent from start to finish.

I especially appreciated being able to tour the house before signing the lease, which helped me feel confident about the decision. The communication was clear and the steps for the application and lease were straightforward.

Overall, Bungalow made the housing search much easier, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a room in a shared home.

Do not support this business

Do not support this business. The final move out process is a "move out form" only accessible on the app. I am supposed to move out today and the form literally is not loading, it is just a blank screen. Now I have to wait for Bungalow Support to "reach out to me" just so I can move out.

Office unresponsive, but Claudio was great.

On the front end of my application, my experience was not so great. There was a huge lag from when I submitted my application and when they actually began processing it. Despite several phone calls asking for updates, no one ever called me back or signaled there was a delay in any way. I actually asked for my money back at one point because it was apparent they hadn’t even looked at my application. I don’t know if this was just a one time thing, but if someone would have just set some expectations, it would have saved me some sleeepless nights. Once Claudio began processing my application, it was great. He was very responsive and thorough and altogether wonderful.

Do not sign Lease with them, you wont get your deposit back

You will never get your security deposit back. I broke a lease before moving in and was told in early February that I would get my deposit back. Still haven't received it and Nilson Osmil who is the lead of the leasing department has not responded to my emails or voice mails simply asking for contact information of who else can help me get it back.

Claudio was so responsive and helpful with securing our lease for a home while we are still out of state! I hope our renting experience is just as positive with the rest of the company while we live in our home with Bungalow.

This company is predatory

This company is predatory. Renting with them was a huge mistake. They over-charge you like crazy and disappear when you try to get ahold of them. For example, they charged 6 people living in the house each $50 to replace and “install” a microwave with an old rusting microwave they probably found on the side of the street and the “installation” was putting the old microwave on a shelf. DO NOT rent through this company. I don’t know how they haven’t gotten sued into oblivion yet. They probably do that on purpose cause they know anyone renting with them likely can’t afford to open a lawsuit. ABSOLUTELY AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

This company is a complete scam

This company is a complete scam. They will charge you $1200 a month, add on a service fee of $250 a month then also add on $300 a month for each resident of the house in made up utility fees. They take days to respond to maintenance requests and then charge the occupants of the house for those maintenance requests. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! They are by far the worst company I have ever rented from and should be sued.

Simple and fast

The process was straight forward and easy to complete the lease. The constant emails and text messages were irritating. Contact by phone would be more effective

They rooked me out of about at least $1000. I am a elderly single woman living on only social security and now I won't have a place to live either. Some one needs to do something about this quick. This was not what it looked like and…

This was not what it looked like and was advertised.. My son moved far from the city due to the lower rent offered by Bungalow, along with the promise of one month free rent. When he moved in, the room was dirty... he had some unforeseen issues and lost his job. I tried to take over payments and it took me over 2 weeks to actually be able to speak with someone who would not allow me to make payments unless I signed up on his portal, I was advised of him being evicted AFTER I contacted them. They are now holding this over my head in exchange for a very hefty bill, which includes some very creative fees never mentioned before. False advertising and they are taking advantage of people.
