Lovely food as always. However, horrific middle management and attitude of staff
Lovely food as always. I would like to know who the jumped up little twit of a staff member manager it was who shouted and snapped his fingers at my daughter today for helping me with my heart tablets and water today after I fell ill. Most unwelcoming. She leant against a table and was snapped at with his fingers to get off it and frowned at. A . I WAS UNWELL. B. SHE IS NEURO DIVERSE. Unacceptable behaviour. Horrid little man . The worst example of petty middle management I have seen.
Visited the cafe earlier this week
Visited the cafe earlier this week , bought a coffee and cheese scone , I asked for the scone to be warmed , the young girl serving me laughed and said they didn’t have the facilities to warm food ! She was very rude . This attitude is not helpful to customers
The coffee was good .
This review is for the cafe
This review is for the cafe! After spending a small fortune in the garden centre where staff are quite friendly however in the cafe very rude blonde bobbed woman, short, needs to learn some manners and customer service skills. I returned one cake to let them know it tasted off & she was so rude & made me feel as if I was a thief! Later I was sick. Pls employ 'helpful' staff & tell them to smile more! - it sadly has put me off returning. You need to listen to your customers. - the garden centre and merchandise is fab & staff better there. Train your cafe staff better!
The cafe / restuarnat needs re-thinking
Love the garden centre it exudes quality, what really annoys me is the cafe / restaurant.
They garden centre is aimed at high class visitors and prices reflect this however the cafe / restaurant is such a let down
Sky high prices, but very poor standards, long queues at the tills, the sticky tables tables not cleared, customers holding hot food for ages as everyman and his dog want a speciality coffee with every serving, what on earth is going on.
I am no hospitality expert but please do some thing to improve the cafe /restaurant experience
Very nice place to visit for a wander but watch the prices
Very nice place to visit for a wander, unfortunately many of the prices are massively inflated so be careful if you are considering purchasing anything. The cafe food looked nice but again very expensive and lacking in flavour which was disappointing. On arrival my wife asked at the front desk where the toilets were located only to be met by an extremely snotty nosed response. Being located in the Cotswolds really doesn't give you the right to charge exorbitant prices or look down on customers. Nice visit but could be drastically improved
Lovely garden centre
Lovely garden centre, bit of a destination with a good range of plants, home interiors, gifts,food/deli, clothing, baby shop and book shop. Can be on the expensive side but makes a nice treat.
Usually have a pre Christmas visit but very disappointed this year, the Christmas decoration section didn't have the impact of previous years, not as much product and very underwhelming, such a shame.
Avoid the cafe
Nothing wrong with garden centre as such . The cafe is a different matter . The staff are unfriendly , no smiles or pleasantries. I had a scone and ordered a skinny flat white . The lady making it was obviously not enjoying her work ! As she turned around to put my coffee on my tray another colleague bumped into her sending some of my coffee on the floor . She turned back to the counter , wiped my cup and put the 2/3 full coffee on my tray !! No apology or recognition to me at all . The scone was dry and hard . A very expensive unpleasant experience . And just to say this is not the first time I have been unhappy with my experience there . Staff in my opinion need more training in customer service. I would definitely not recommend this cafe .
Doesn’t allow dogs
Doesn’t allow dogs. What garden centre doesn’t allow dogs?!
Plant area
I visit Burford often and always find the interiors and garden area beautiful. I went today and was helped by Alan on the plant area. He was genuine, friendly, and helpful.
Thank you,
Very over priced !!
Very nicely laid out and nice things to look at, but very expensive and also the cafe was not for normal working class people. Very over priced and over the top. The locals think they own the place. I’m glad I experienced it as on holiday but would not return .
No reception and no functioning WiFi!
I’ve been here a couple of times now and love the variety and quality of products and items. I went again today meeting up with some friends. In trying to tell them where we are via texts, realised there is no reception and the WiFi for the garden centre does not work, I double checked this at reception who confirmed it. They advised us to walk into the parking area to get reception. We did this for about 10 minutes and eventually found an isolated spot where we could message our friends. I really don’t understand how an upmarket centre like this has no reception and no WiFi. Very disappointing.
Five-star service from Kira – a margarita masterclass!
We’re regulars and live locally, so we already love this place, but our visit yesterday deserves special mention.
We popped in to grab some garden accessories and have a look at what might help us make margaritas at home. While browsing the wine and spirits section, my husband asked a team member (I believe her name was Kira) about tequila and triple sec.
Her face lit up, and what followed was nothing short of outstanding service.
Kira made us mini margaritas using three brand new tequilas that had just come in, plus a fourth with a classic favourite. She was fun, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable about all of the products - nothing was too much trouble. We ended up buying three bottles of tequila, hibiscus salt, and four bottles of lime juice because of her fantastic recommendations.
Service like that is genuinely rare these days. Kira was an absolute delight and truly made our visit special. She deserves every bit of recognition!
Excellent online experience
First time online order. Fast delivery, plant very healthy and strong and size as described (Fatsia Camouflage). Packaged with care. Would order online again.
Poor restaurant system!!
I live locally and so have visited BFC a few times over the years. One thing that I have noticed that remains consistently poor is the restaurant queue management. Huge, huge queues that could be made so much simpler by separate tea/coffee stations to filter out the non-eaters. Somebody will occasionally jump onto a different till, but usually serves one or two people randomly and then shuts again. Today for example two random gentlemen with bottles were served, which prompted people to start heading over, only for the till to close leaving people really confused and disgruntled. We had to queue for almost 20 minutes today just to get a coffee… You’re paying a premium for absolutely anything you purchase within the place, so you’d expect better systems. Just something to be aware of.
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service. Bought a Bergs Potter pot and unlike ALL the other retailers, Burford sell the pot and saucer separately so I received a pot without a saucer without realising. I’ve since bought and paid for the saucer twice but Burford have cancelled the order at the point of dispatch as they’ve realised they’ve sold out despite showing availability online! I’m now stuck with a pot without the matching saucer and they’re meant to be a set. When doing price comparisons they appear cheaper but it’s way more expensive as they sell them separately. Really disappointed and won’t shop with them again.
Burford Garden Centre Hates Dogs
Passed here ton of times so decided to pop in only to find it completely bans dogs, never ever been to a garden centre that bans dogs, I can sort of understand among the book shop and furniture part but the plants and outside cafe 🤷🏻♂️ read they think it’s ok to only let you visit the small outside coffee shop Whoopdy Do 😏
The Cotswolds is a beautiful and very dog friendly place but here? If our dogs ain’t welcome we ain’t coming and spending our money 🤬
I was profiled and followed
Having visited this garden centre on many previous occasions, especially on the lead up to Christmas I was very disappointed and offended on my visit today. My autistic partner and myself along with our medical assistants dog where enjoying walking around the various areas, we had brought some items but wanted to continue shopping until it became VERY apparent we had been profiled and followed around the entire store by a member of staff it became very uncomfortable at which point I just put my basket of shopping down and just walked out. Not only where we followed around the entire store we followed to our car and watched while we put our shopping in the boot and getting into our car. We will not be visiting again any time soon as this made out experience very uncomfortable and not something we want to repeat.
Previously I had been a fan of this…
Previously I had been a fan of this centre, clearly there are building issues - leaks seem a common occurrence and so much stock but little purchasing…must cost a fortune to run and I’d think they must survive from tourism in the local area…unfortunately not the case, customers who are seen to put one foot wrong by staff & the management are treated so rudely and even members of the public expressing a concern for the treatment of customers are provided with a curt, defensive and elitist response. Businesses are struggling in this climate and reputation is everything. Your loyal repeat customers won’t always be there… to the business owner, I explore you to review your staff policies & to the general public be wary until they do. They are also 3 mins drive from a rescue organisation that rescues dogs but bans them from the centre?! Learn a lesson from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home who encourage dogs in local establishments and helps promote dog welfare….
Aggressive, rude manager
I used to eat lunch hear at their overpriced Cafe (the whole place is over priced). My wife works in a nearby charity and i drop her off before heading over, as it's nearby.
Today their manager Dominic accosted me (presumably because today it was cold, their heating wasn't on, and I was wearing a black trench coat, so didn't fit in with their decor). I had a small, branded bag of purchases from their shop on the table where I sat (so I was clearly a customer) along with an empty reusable coffee cup. I was working on my laptop around 12.30 and was about to get up to buy lunch, after finishing the phonecall I was on (I had been on hold for 10 minutes so was not making any noise).
Dominic immediately began yelling at me about the coffee cup, trying to escort me out, talking to me in such a demeaning, offensive manner.
When I pointed out that I was a customer about to buy lunch, he demanded I leave, saying my laptop did not fit in with their family atmosphere. I would have been happy to go to their empty nook around the corner (where I usually eat as it is always empty, or nearly empty) or leave completely, had he asked nicely. But he was SO RUDE!
A complaint with another manager was futule: she seemed nice, but I could tell my complaint was going nowhere, as she claimed that they were often so busy that people had to wait for tables (clearly I was not worthy of a table when other people not wearing a trench coat were available). She was clearly lying: sometimes their main area is busy, but I have been there dozens of times during the lunch rush amd NEVER seen anybody waiting for a table, and always found ample seating available, particularly in their nook.
On my way out I turned to take a picture of Dominic when he was about 15 meters away so I could identify him in a written complaint. I turned back to leave and he ran after me, put his hands on me, and began pushing me towards the door as he yelled physical threats in my ear. I told him to take his hands off me repeatedly, but he pushed me harder.
By this time we were both yelling at each other.
When we encountered the other manager, he immediately changed tone, so I was the only one yelling and thus i looked like the one in the wrong.
I am 44 years old and have not been spoken to like this since a teenager, loitering outside a shop.
I cannot believe how offensive this manager spoke to me and i will never go back.
Please avoid their over the top prices and find another garden centre to spend your hard earned money in.
No dogs!
Impressive car park and entrance , and buildings looked nice but we were not allowed in with a dog. Crazy. They’ve got a large outdoor seating area as part of the cafe. Why not be flexible and on a cloudy Monday in September, allow a small area . We were first time visitors to the area, and amazed at the policy when people had said “dog friendly Cotswolds”. Another dog owner and daughter were surprised, and like us left the site without entering - taking our money elsewhere.
