Avoid!
When I first used Canopy Trees, seven years ago, I couldn’t have been more pleased. The chap was very professional, did a great job and cleaned up after himself. So when I needed similar work doing again I went with Canopy Trees, accepting their quote without quibble because I thought I’d be getting the same great level of service.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
The chap that did the work this time, although very amiable, not only didn’t do all the work agreed upon, but left the garden looking as if a bomb had hit it. On top of that he’d fatally damaged a treasured shrub that had taken years to grow and knocked a chunk out of my front garden wall because he apparently couldn’t be bothered to open the second of the double gates to give himself more space.
I didn’t know about any of this until I went to look around after he’d gone – with my cash payment tucked firmly in his pocket.
When I complained to Canopy Trees all I got in reply was a one-line email offering to ‘put things right’ whatever that meant. I certainly didn’t want them back on my property to cause even more damage. There was no mention of a partial refund (in respect of work I’d paid for not being carried out) or of payment for the damage to the wall or to replace the damaged shrub.
I’ll certainly never pay anyone in cash again. And next time I have any work done at all, I’ll stand over the bloke the whole time, watch him like a hawk, and refuse to pay a red cent until the job is done properly. The stupidest words in the English language? “I’ll leave you to get on with it.”
