I have only praise for Chiltern Railways staff. Recovering from a serious ankle injury, I initially contacted Camilla at Assistance, and she calmly and quickly booked the help I needed. At Marylebone,... Ver más
On the 604 from London Marylebone this morning and have lots of work to do. Plug sockets not working and WiFi non existent. Terrible service as always!) from Chiltern Railways.
I hate this company! They should not be able to operate this line, years and years of absolutely horrific service and increase prices! When will Greg Smith actually sort this issue out?

This train service is always one of three things: overcrowded, overpriced, or consistently late.
This has to be the worst train service I have ever used. I just moved here 6 months ago. I have lived all over the world, so this is really saying something. Because I thought france was bad for its train strikes. But at least ypu weren't paying a fortune. I travel regularly on the Gerrards Cross to Marylebone route and pay over £24 for a return ticket, yet the service is consistently late and severely overcrowded.
Delays during stormy or extreme weather conditions are understandable. However, this is not an occasional issue, there is some form of problem almost every single weekday. Passengers are trying to get to work/hospitals appointments on time, fully aware that the train will already be packed. There are not enough seats, not enough standing room, and people are forced to shove their way on simply to get to work.
The pattern is the same every weekday morning and evening, so this should not come as a surprise. The solution is obvious: add more carriages to peak-time services or introduce additional trains during the busiest hours. Even one extra train in the morning and evening would significantly reduce overcrowding.
From a health and safety perspective, the situation is genuinely concerning. The level of crowding makes travel unsafe, particularly for elderly passengers, pregnant women, and children. There is no excuse in this day and age for passengers to be put in this position, especially while paying such a high fare.
What makes this even more frustrating is that during the middle of the day, when there are far fewer commuters, trains often have plenty of carriages. This highlights that capacity exists, but it is not being allocated when it is actually needed.
Unfortunately, this route is the only realistic way into London for many commuters. If alternative options were available, most people would choose them. Instead, we are left dealing with the same aggravation day in and day out, with little sense that passenger experience or safety is being prioritised.
This level of service does not reflect the cost of the ticket, nor does it meet reasonable expectations of reliability or safety.
One final point: this review asks for a “date of experience.” Unfortunately, this applies every day.
Some very rude staff
Some very rude staff! I couldn’t find my ticket that I had BOUGHT from Marylebone in my email and was trying find a solution to the problem and was met with rudeness and arrogant staff just claiming I want a free ride. Thank God, ONE gentle man (Kendall Harris) who was on the staff helped me and addressed the issues in a kind manner and we came to an understanding and the matter was solved.
Chiltern employs thuggish staff

I am disabled and Chiltern are the only…
I am disabled and Chiltern are the only railway I can use due to cost of tickets I know Chiltern supply disabled assistance. I all ways call in advance my assistance I need with Chiltern railways directly. I recover email confirmation and so I take my journey but every time I’m let down by there disabled assistance be it on the out bound journey or the inbound journey I’ve been left on a train screening for help the public are normally very helpful but sometimes they think I’m nuts . I’ve been made to like I’m nothing worthless and unimportant. I have two outstanding complaints and still awaiting what are they going to do about it useless feeling again on 18/11/2025 left on train on 23/11/25 I received no information of works at London Marylebone works that coach service was laid on and I can not travel by coach on 19th ofDecember no assistance on the 22nd of December arrive Birmingham moor st and no one was there to help me off the Kidderminster train even though the train driver checked with Birmingham moor st. yet again the great British public was there to help me off the train but I still had to wait for assistance to help to the right platform for my London Marylebone I had ten minutes to get my departure train but by the time assistance arrived I missed my train and was delayed by 50 minutes till the next one and yet again the assistance person wasn’t there to put me on it. Some one helped me on the train the assistance guy showed up and assured me that he would radio through to London Marylebone of where I was sitting so the biggie would collect me. It’s disgusting how a company like Chiltern can make you feel so in significant and a very small human being
The train journey was smooth and a good…
The train journey was smooth and a good price, not differing from anytime I travel with them. I have been using this company multiple times and have been impressed by it.
One major flaw, the Christmas rush seemed to have gone unnoticed at their offices and I was crammed in a carriage with no seats and little standing space. Also, there was little to none ventilation and so ended up boiling, in the Christmas holidays! Overall a good company but unadvisable to travel in busy times.
I was at the Marylebon platform
I was at the Marylebon platform. A train was going to leave in 1 minute. I asked the stuff whether this train will stop at High Wycombe. The stuff said "this train" before I finished my whole sentence.
Fxxk. I was in the wrong train
Appaling service from Bicester North to…
A appaling service from Bicester North to Marylebone Yesterday.
The train was 30min late arriving, the carriages where full which meant we had to stand the entire 1 hour journey and you charged us £67 for the pleasure.
On the return journey from London the train was only two carriages long which meant again there was standing room only.
Why would you only put two carriages on a train coming from London on a Saturday night I find unbelievable along with the fact that the train carriages are small, out of date and dirty.
Next time we will drive.
The worst train line EVER
The worst train line EVER! Constant over crowding and not enough carriages. How they still have the franchise I have no idea! The trains are old and always being repaired, meaning there is never enough stock to meet the demand. Commuters are always standing and regularly the trains are so overcrowded you can’t even get on. If you can avoid this train line, please do.
So another day of using Chiltern and…
So another day of using Chiltern and another of day of total chaos.
Delays, cancellations and just general confusion amongst staff because of another signal failure.
Totally inept and on top of that I’ve requested a refund on a weekly ticket and it seems I won’t be getting back around 40% of it back and I have no idea why.
Chiltern the WORST train service imaginable.
Totally unreliable service: utterly useless
This railway company is simply a disgrace. I am almost always delayed on my journey on the Aylesbury to London line. Tonight we are crawling at a snail’s pace between Marylebone and Harrow. There has been no announcement as to the reason for the delay, still less any apology. Last week the train broke down completely and passengers were all turfed out at Amersham.
Excellent Experience
I was surprised to see so many poor reviews. We travelled with Chiltern on 2 & 5 October 2025 between London Marleybone and Oxford and it was an excellent experience. I hadn't booked passenger assistance (I am disabled) but the Chiltern staff on the gates at Marleybone could see I was struggling. Before I knew it both of us and our luggage were deposited in one of their buggies and transported to our train. We were assisted onto the train (passengers who were occupying the disabled carriage were politely moved) and we were safely installed with arrangements made to assist us in Oxford. I didn't know there was such a thing as a disabled carriage. Very
comfortable. Our trains were on time, But the assistance provided by their staff was impressive.
Genuinely the worst trainline I’ve ever…
Genuinely the worst trainline I’ve ever had to use. I commute via Chiltern railways and the consistency of their cancelled and delayed trains, overly packed trains, and abysmal refund policy is impressive. Not only do they constantly cancel or delay trains for seemingly no reason, but when you are delayed they will aim to refund you as little money they physically can
Season ticket holder
I have never given an online review for any company before, but I am so fed up with Chiltern Railways that I couldn’t help myself. I don’t have a lot to add to the other negative reviews on here (I tend to go back and hate read them as a way of passing the time while I’m crammed into someone’s armpit on another short formation service from Marylebone). To put it plainly: the carriages are dirty and old, and there aren’t nearly enough of them. Delays are frequent. They run a bare bones operation, so whenever there is some sort of external issue affecting their service (bad weather, strikes), they end up being much more impacted than other operators because thy don’t have any extra capacity or ability to cope. I don’t expect it to get any better when they nationalise, but at least I’ll know that shareholders won’t be profiting off of my misery anymore.
Disgrace
Expensive, late and not enough carriages for the volume of paying customers. A disgrace.
Dirty. crowded compartments; poor customer service
Trains generally in time recently but never enough carriages on Marylebone to Oxford route: overcrowded, scruffy compartments with worn seats. People regularly stick dirty feet on seats and as carriages aren't staffed, nothing is done about this. Wrote to them a few months ago after having to remonstrate with a rude idiot blaring sound from her phone in seat opposite, and their response was pathetic. Expensive service for what it is.
Awful and unreliable service.
Awful and unreliable service.
I’ve taken this train twice, and both times it was delayed and took ages to reach the destination. Today, it was cancelled altogether. I was told that my ticket could be used for another service, but when I tried, it wasn’t accepted — leaving me no choice but to buy another, more expensive ticket. Terrible experience — think twice before booking with this service.
Awful trains, awful journey
Awful service - trains are old and worn out, seats super uncomfortable and badly maintained. Trains rocks about all over the place making it hard to work on a laptop and very easy to fall over. Get backache every time I travel with Chiltern. It’s like getting a knackered old bus from some random place in the middle of nowhere with a bad driver and poor condition roads - but having to stay on it for over an hour whilst trying to work and not be sick! Wish they’d sort themselves out.
Disgustingly bad service.
Attempted to buy a day ranger ticket at Leamington Spa station. Twice I was sent away being told I was too early. Both times I returned quoting West Midlands Railway website showing that I was able to buy the ticket. On the 3rd attempt, I was sold the ticket. The guy on the counter was rude, arrogant and argumentative.
Appaling service.
Terrible service to London avoid
What is the point of having power sockets if the power goes off mid journey. It’s bad enough the WiFi is so awful but you can’t even work locally with no power. It’s not good enough. Do better, £120 for a return to London is extortionate but to then not be able to work is a disgusting rip off.
