Only resolved after legal action prolonged and poorly managed process

I recently concluded a dispute with this dealership regarding a vehicle, which began on 11 November last year and only progressed further after formal legal action was initiated.

Even once legal representatives became involved, the process remained slow and poorly coordinated, with little noticeable improvement in communication or organisation.

The issue arose after the vehicle was rejected following a manufacturer related problem, including a recall query, which was not resolved. When I initially contacted the dealership to seek assistance, the response received appeared dismissive and unprofessional, which led to the decision to formally reject the vehicle and ensure all further communication was conducted in writing.

It is also worth noting that the dealership is not a member of The Motor Ombudsman, meaning that route for dispute resolution was not available in this case.

What should have been a straightforward issue was unnecessarily prolonged. Over the course of several months, there were repeated delays, missed commitments, and a lack of clear communication. At multiple points, I was required to chase updates that had been promised but never delivered.

Even after legal proceedings were underway and a settlement had been agreed, the process remained disorganised.

A collection date was arranged, but the initial commitment was missed without notice. A revised timeframe was then provided and also not met, again requiring further chasing.

On the day the vehicle was eventually collected, the situation became particularly concerning. The recovery driver attempted to carry out an inspection beyond what had been agreed, including commenting on cosmetic condition and requesting access under the bonnet.

When this was challenged, there were further requests to take possession of the vehicle before payment had been confirmed.

The vehicle was only released once the full agreed amount had been received and cleared.

To be clear, the matter was only concluded after we ensured the agreed terms were followed.

While the settlement was eventually honoured, the overall experience from the length of time taken to resolve the issue, to the repeated missed commitments and the conduct on the day of collection was far below what would reasonably be expected.

Based on this experience, I would strongly advise ensuring everything is documented and not relying on verbal assurances when dealing with this dealership.

Adam was well aware of me awaiting an insurance payout to complete this sale.
All good to start with,plenty of communication etc...
Then they stopped answering my messages and emails..
Van sold to another customer(which i understand).No deposit paid back.

Dangerous experience: Sold an E53 with bald tyres "Fresh MOT"

Title: Serious safety concerns - Check your vehicle thoroughly

I purchased a £32k Mercedes E53 from this garage under the impression it had a fresh MOT and service. Within three days, I found the tyres were worn down to the canvas (showing cords) and the washers didn't work. These are blatant MOT failures, meaning the car was sold in an unroadworthy and dangerous state despite their "inspections."

The owner did eventually pay for new tyres and a service after I complained, but the fact that the car was allowed to leave the forecourt like that is a huge red flag. I have since paid for my own servicing elsewhere because the trust is completely gone. I would advise any future customers to have an independent inspection done before handing over any money.

Please do not buy from this garage!

I would give this garage zero stars if possible. We bought a Renault Megane after having trouble with a previous garage and Jeanette was lovely , couldn’t believe what we had gone through and sold us a car saying they were a garage to trust. How wrong she was. After 4 months the turbo is knackered, the car is not drivable and yet Driven , the trust worthy garage will not even take a look at it. They told us to write to their legal team who have also came back with a rude , abrupt letter saying their members will not budge on the matter and they will NOT fix our vehicle. After speaking to Citizen Advice they have said Driven by law should be fixing our car and to write another letter but still no further forward. Please do not buy a car from this company they are all lovely when taking your money but want nothing to do with you when something is wrong with the car. I will be fighting it all the way.

Excellent service,im in scotland and after seeing vehicle online gavin at Stockton-on-Tees sent me photos of the vehicle,helped with my questions and all went smooth and hassle free when i travelled down to collect it

Excellent service
Right from the start, the sales team led by Jeanette made the process of buying the car at a distance easy and well communicated at each stage. They helped in the purchase, the collection and delivery. All the administration required to MOT, tax, and register the car was all done in a timely fashion as required. Can't fault them, and the car is as exacty as described.

Jeanette made the whole car purchase so easy from start to finish. This is our 3rd car from Driven. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a car.

I have been impressed with this garage…

I have been impressed with this garage from the commencement of our discussions. Ronnie was amazing, no harsh sales just very down to earth guy.
He had an excellent sense of humour, and did not put any pressure on us.
The other team members Gavin and Jeanette were very approachable too. Great service overall.

I buy all my cars from driven …

I have bought multiple cars from Driven in Thornaby over the years and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Jeanette and Ronnie are so helpful and friendly. Driven is always my first choice of car dealership and I trust them implicitly.

Smooth exchange

Went to visit Driven September 19th, met by Matthew, lovely lad. Less than a week later the car is mine hassle free. Even got wheels refurbed for me and sorted everything we needed for a smooth exchange.
Would definitely recommend!

Initially put down a deposit on the Car…

Initially put down a deposit on the Car which i was advised was fully refundable, a Day later my Work offered me a car via the Fleet Policy so i advised Jeanette that I wouldn't now require the car and apologised. I've now asked 3 times for the Deposit to be sent back and have been ignored everytime.

sold a dodgy car

Sold a dodgy car that wasnt even road worthy after trading in a perfect car that never skipped a beat on me, after 4 days of ownership the car got stuck in reverse gear and started crunching from the gearbox. required me to turn the car off to get it out of gear, let the garage fix it was fine for 2 weeks then the entire left rear light went off no brake light no reverse light no indicator no reverse camera.
after that it started getting stuck in gear multiple times again in more then one case i had to turn the car off 3-4 times just to get out of a tight street i was in because it would stick itself in gear and move on its own no matter if your foot was to the floor with the clutch pedal, had the vehicle inspected to be told that it failed its inspection badly and the guy advised me to not drive the car so i was without a car for almost 2 months while going through a refund process, the dealership was extremely unhelpful took 2 weeks to get back in touch with the finance company and although the agreement was 1 car payment per 1000 miles they tried saying they wanted 5p per mile after being told no they wouldnt come to an agreement, after finally giving up they then said i did £800 worth of damage to the car including 2 curbed alloys that where already there in the dealership photos i had from purchase incase anything like this happened. tried using photos from january as proof of presale photos for the “damage” i supposedly did to the vehicle but there had been at least 1 owner in the time of january til april before i got the car. got told it would have a fresh MOT and 100 point inspection plus service on pickup, not a single thing was done with the car except a fixed lower grill and a valet.
wouldnt waste your time going here extremely unhelpful scam artists, DO NOT BUY THE CAR DT17 URC from this dealership!!
