BUYER BEWARE! CHEAPLY MADE, UN-LABLED CHINESE GOODS!
As someone who's striving to live Zero-Waste, I ordered a couple of items from EcoRoots: reusable makeup rounds and reusable produce bags, sold under EcoRoots own brand name. The items that I received appeared so poorly made and of such dubious quality, that I could tell they had been made in China the minute I set eyes on them -something that Antonia at EcoRoots only confirmed to me after my second e-mail attempt.
Why was I forced to (repeatedly) request the country of origin directly from the seller? Because the country of origin/manufacture wasn’t listed anywhere on either the products themselves OR their packaging -and the produce bags in particular bags came in a LOT of unnecessary packaging! Even though the produce bags are flimsy cotton bags which easily roll up and fit inside the largest cotton bag, the bags came packed in a relatively heavy cardboard box, with a glossy cardboard insert, which detailed things like care/washing instructions and EcoRoot's various social media handles, but made no mention of the country of origin/manufacture.
Trying to get simple responses from Antonia was like pulling teeth: she didn't feel inclined to apologize, explain or even acknowledge EcoRoot's actions, even though U.S. Customs and Border Protection requires country of origin labelling on imported merchandise (with relatively few exceptions). Eventually, Antonia stopped responding to my emails altogether (not entirely surprising given how little effort or concern she put into the two responses she did send).
Nothing about overly packaged goods imported from half-way around the world, manufactured using questionable labor and environmental (to say nothing of hygiene practices, during the height of the Covid-19 shutdown) seems particularly green or eco-friendly to me, and excessive packaging and unnecessary shipping can never be considered Zero Waste, not matter how much EcoRoots greenwashes it.
