Never in my history of renting vehicles have I stumbled upon such shrewd practices.

It was during the car return that I was met with a rather shocking revelation - a mirror-assisted inspection of the car’s undercarriage. This wasn't something they had mentioned when I rented the car. Had they been forthright about this unusual inspection, I would have taken the time to examine the car in depth before renting. Or better still, I might have opted for a different rental service, particularly considering the well-known poor condition of Cypriot roads.

The sting in the tail came with an unexpected deduction of €150 from my deposit. They attributed this to my alleged detour off paved roads – a scenario, they conveniently explained, was not covered by their insurance policy.

Elephant in Paphos left a bitter taste in my mouth with their noticeably aged fleet and what I can only describe as a manipulative deposit and damage policy. If you're contemplating car rental in Paphos, I would strongly urge you to consider other providers.

Caution with Elephant in Paphos - A Disappointing Car Rental Service

As someone who has been renting cars for over a decade, I feel it's my obligation to share my experience with the car rental company Elephant in Paphos. In my many years of renting vehicles, I have never come across such dishonest and misleading practices.

Upon returning the car, I was met with a surprise: they used a mirror to meticulously inspect the undercarriage of the vehicle, a practice that they had not communicated to me at any point during the rental process. Had I known this, I would have previously checked for any existing damage in that hard-to-see area of the car. Moreover, I would have likely avoided renting from them, especially considering the woeful state of the roads in Cyprus.

To add insult to injury, due to this inspection, they withheld 150 euros from my deposit, arguing that I had strayed off paved roads, a circumstance that, conveniently, their insurance does not cover.

Elephant in Paphos provides notably old vehicles and employs a deposit and damage policy that I consider unfair. If you are considering renting a car in Paphos, I strongly advise you to seek alternatives. Respect for customers and transparency in policies are fundamental aspects in this type of services, and in my experience, Elephant in Paphos fails severely in both.

Dont use them!!! on the day of our arrival, we picked up the car and paid the remaining amount, as well as the deposit, and drove from the airport to our hotel, the next day we wanted to meet for the planned birthday party of our friends' son in Protaras,  but the car did not start due to a discharged battery.We contacted the representative and he said that he would be able to arrive no earlier than in 30 minutes, which did not suit us and we had to use the services of a taxi, which cost us 30 euros.  Company representative  jump start a car next morning  and after that, I left the engine running for 25 minutes to charge the battery, but the battery does not charge, after that the company replaced the battery, and tried to blame me for not turning off the ignition correctly.with which I absolutely did not agree, but to make sure that turning off the car correctly I checked with company representative and he agreed that I was doing everything correctly. After replacing the battery, we went to the beach.after five hours on the beach, the representative of the company called me and said in a very rude manner that he saw that the ignition was not turned off in the car during the entire time, that it would discharge the battery again, which is exactly what happened.after which we had an unpleasant conversation in which I once again emphasized that the car is not working and needs to be replaced,(Most cars these days with keyless ignition systems will shut off if the gas feed isn't touched for 30 minutes unless  someone  modified them,while fitting tracking devices  within  not  with official dialer, on the black market)to which he said that he was taking the car and  return remaining  balance of the rent, that left us without a rental car and were unable to get to the airport at the end of our vacation.On top of that we were given an old car with 96000 mileage with a broken undercarriage, also upon arrival at the airport we spent a good 15 minutes to find a representative, after which he took us to a parking lot that is several miles from the airport, which also took some time. During the registration  the car company does not block the deposit but withdraws it, be aware that you will lose a certain amount during the return transaction and it will also take several days to return the money to you, then instead of a full tank we were given only half and I had to look for a gas station in the middle of the night. Also,  during the delivery of the car, they said that it is dark in the yard and it does not make sense to check the car for damage, and in the rank they will send by mail photos of the car from all sides, which they honestly took before our arrival. I would not advise anyone to use this company.

I've used this company 7-8 times now and the service has been absolutely faultless. The team are a very friendly & polite bunch. The owner Pambos is an absolute gentleman. I cannot fault the service, the car or anything. Best car hire company around Pafos by far in my experience. I'll definitely be a long time customer and I'd happily highly recommend them to everyone. Deposit is €350 which is returned to you when you give car back so not sure why someone else said its €1000, that's absolute rubbish

They went straight to it too, instinctively as they knew what to do, please understand I have bn in the car trade for over 40yrs.

We had booked our hire through easyjet and this was the company we ended up with. Excellent service, staff were helpful and polite. We were upgraded due to short supply of smaller cars. On return quick inspection no issues and they drove us back to the airport. Things to note: they don't have a desk in the airport there's a person stood outside with a board, they then shuttled us to their depot about a 3 minute drive. As it was dark on arrival they sent us pictures and said for us to check the car in the morning when it was light and let them know if we disagreed. Easy drop off, quick check then they take you to the airport. They do check under the car with a mirror as pointed out by another review we guessed this is due to the extremely high curbs which if you park too close to could cause damage so be aware of how you park in Cyprus.

Great company would highly recommend picked me up at airport helped with loading and unloading luggage. I read few bad reviews that at first put me off. after renting a car for the week with this company my family and i had great experience exploring island in nice clean car the full deposit was returned after inspection of car an no damage can't fault company at all. Only advice is to drive careful in cyprus as curbs are huge if you you try to drive up them you will damage underside of car and not to use your rental car for offroading. Will definitely be using them agen in near future thanks paris.

BE VERY CAREFUL HIRING FROM THIS COMPANY THEY CHARGED ME 150 euros for the tiniest scuff under the car!!!! A black permanent marker was all they needed! Total extortion.

Peter they're customer service guy is rude, obnoxious, unhelpful, the other guys were actually very nice and expressed how embarrassing and upsetting these extortinate charges are!

Reserved car in good time before arrival to Paphos airport. A car for 2 weeks for £250 for a couple of weeks, good deal I thought. By the time we paid for all the add ons and extra insurance it was over £500, then given some older vehicle in the car park. Late at night and poorly lit carpark off site, got me by the short and curlies. Buyer beware.

Couldn't find fault great car rental company . Picked us up from Paphos airport picked up hire car and dropped us back at the end of the hire.
Beware the curbs are high and the road edges tend to be rough entrance to some parking areas are rough with the potential to damage the underside of some small wheeled cars bear this in mind and you won't incur damage costs

As i can see from other reviews, its typical for this company to make money not only from renting the cars - they add crazy bottom end car damage, which you typically dont think about or even check. After i returned the car, they said that the bumper lowest part which you dont even see while standing or sitting has a around 1 cm scratch. Then they started lying to me that they will repaint whole bumper for this small scratch and charged me 150 euros. I understand it was my fault that i didnt took extra insurance, but its just an insult to a person who works with cars to tell that you will repaint whole bumper - at the best case scenario they will spot paint with a brush or even more likely do nothing and get another 150 euros from another customer.

First of all, unlike many other agencies, they take the deposit from your credit card and don't just "reserved" it ! So this needs to be planned in your budget.
Also, there is no check of the car upon arrival with us but they send you a email with pictures of the car taken "in day light" without any possibilities at that time to know when they were taken. So we were sceptical at that point and not so hopeful to get fully refunded. Our instinct was right because we lost an arbitrary amount of more than 100 eur for a scratch under the car ! They take a mirror on wheels to check under the car ! This was a first for us. Regarding the price of the damage, they don't show any price list or previous bill (so it gets really difficult to get your money back from insurances).

We had a pleasant experience with this company after we have found out that another car rental company does not accept our credit card for the deposit 24 hours before arriving to Cyprus.

Elephantrentacar not only had the best prices to offer but also were able to reply to our request in a timely manner. We were picked up from the airport by a friendly staff member, the car rental process was straightforward, for deposit they accept cash, credit/debit cards, the car was recently cleaned as well. Our deposit of 500 euros was refunded in a few days after returning the car back.

Only minuses were car's squeeky timing belt and the android in Japanese language however from our experience I totally recommend this company and would hire one of their cars again.

First class service from very friendly people from pick-up to collecting car from office just outside airport. Very clean car & in excellent condition. Sent 10 photos to email showing condition of car. Returned & inspected by staff in very short time & taken to airport. Would recommend this company & will use on our next trip to Paphos.
