When my insurance refused to cover a Cologuard test, I called Exact Sciences’ billing department to understand my payment options. The representative I spoke with, Eric, was dismissive, unhelpful, and openly hostile.

When I asked basic questions about the bill, he responded with remarks such as, “I’m not here to educate you about the American health insurance system,” and “You’re barking up the wrong tree.” This was surprising and inappropriate. If someone in the Cologuard billing department isn’t the right person to answer questions about a Cologuard bill, who is?

I ended the call and spoke with a different representative, Priscilla, who was professional and helpful. Within minutes, she explained my situation and suggested I request a prior authorization from my PCP. That was the simple guidance I was calling for in the first place.

Exact Sciences should seriously reevaluate how it trains and supervises its billing staff. Patients calling about medical bills deserve basic professionalism. If Eric’s behavior reflects the company’s standards, that’s a serious problem.

I'm only giving them 2 stars because I feel frustrated with this company because I'm not sure how I got into contact with this company, other than I saw an ad on Fb I believe and signed up to do a poop test at home . I didn't know whether my insurance would pay or not but thought hey might as well give it a try. So the test part was good just the way it was done and the bill afterwards is not . Anyways they sent me a test and I did it and sent it back . Well, I would have never done the test if I had known I would have to pay 681.00 ?? Since I was sent the test I assumed my insurance OKed it - I wouldn't have been sent the test right ? So now my credit is going to take a hit because I'm not going to pay this bill . Don't send out tests if insurance doesn't show it being covered . Because most people aren't going to pay cash for this when most insurances will . And mine would have it's just I had just been released from my insurance almost exactly at the same time as I ordered or got this test I guess ?? I had no idea that was the case , until I got this bill .
