We have just got back from the most amazing holiday with Explore Travel to Egypt. Although the Middle East conflict was still ongoing it did not affect our holiday at all. We started in Cairo seeing the Pyramids then flew to Aswan and joined the floating paradise that is the Dahabiya Dream. The staff were so good and kind. The meals were excellent and even the entertainment which we were encouraged to join in made us laugh! Our guides in Cairo and on the journeys from to boat to the Valley of the Kings and temples were so informative. It was an exemplary holiday. Definitely the way to see Egypt!

If you want to go down the Nile this is the way to do it. The Dream is a beautiful boat. Gorgeous sitting on deck watching life on the river bank go by. Ahmed, our guide made all our trips to temples wonderful, explaining everything so clearly, and the crew great company and friendly. Food delicious. Cabin very comfy.
Linda was incredibly patient with all our changes with adding people last minute plus changing flights for us so that we could fit in a day in Cairo. The Pyramids and the New museum should absolutely not be missed.

We had the great pleasure of sailing on the Dream for a week in October 25. An amazing 5* experience - if you are comparing Nile cruises, just book - you have found the best.

We chose the Dream on a recommendation of a friend who sailed with them in April 25 and I can confirm that our 100% positive experience mirrored theirs.

Nothing was too much trouble for the crew and organisers and we particularly enjoyed the company and conversation onboard of our Oxbridge PhD educated guide. We loved that they made no profit from the optional tours as these funded Explore’s outreach programme.

There is probably not much more that I need add to the previous reviews except possibly the feeling of setting sail up the Nile at sunrise . Hot air balloons were launching from our right as the sun was rising from our left in total quiet. The 150 year old Dream has no engines of her own so uses a dedicated tug on a long tow rope meaning no noise or vibrations.

Finally, I particularly appreciated the services of our dedicated organiser Linda. We were on a photographic tour in Cairo the previous week, but Linda kindly organised all our flights from the Uk covering both weeks. Her local knowledge was impeccable as rather than the frightening expensive Cataract hotel, she recommended and booked us into the Winter Palace hotel that had the same feel and was no much better.

I thus do not hesitate to highly recommend the Dream to brand new and seasoned travellers alike

I have just returned from one of the best weeks I have ever had. It’s hard to put in into words. It’s like trying to take photos of the incredible ancient Egyptian temples it’s hard to capture on camera you have to be there to feel it.

First of all I would like to thank Linda for making this happen for all of us. For being so helpful.

The minute I walked onto the Dahabiya Dream I had a feeling it was going to be a very special week but I had no idea how special !

We were 12 friends so had the boat to ourselves.

On every level Mahmoud was just incredible….
Ahmed was a delight and a fabulous teacher.
Joe who waited on us tirelessly and in such a quiet and unassuming way.
Every meal was delicious and full of variety.

The boat was full of charm and nostalgia and you can feel the history of it all around you in every beautiful space from the deck to the bedrooms she is beautiful.

The sights of Egypt blow our minds so much to take in to be so close to ancient monuments was breathtaking.

I left a little piece of my heart in Egypt it is a week I will never forget so sending you all wrap around hugs and the biggest thank you

The Dream was everything we had hoped for and so much more. We initially planned this trip some 5 years ago, but the pandemic stopped play. Five years later and we finally arrived in Luxor, albeit very late at night when we were collected and driven through a quiet city to meet our host, the wondrous Mahmoud. A charming person who could not do enough for his guests. He was a treasure! We felt relaxed and comfortable from the moment we boarded our beautiful home for the week.
We chose one of the royal rooms at the rear of the Dream so that we could sit outside in peace and watch the world go by. It was lovely, comfortable, clean and had everything we needed.
Ahmed, our Egyptologist, was a wonderful blend of knowledge and good humour. His passion for history and his enthusiasm were infectious. He is very well qualified and does everything possible to care for his guests, especially when passing through the bazaars.
The crew were a lovely group of people, all willing to do everything possible to make your stay memorable. They listened to our thoughts and treated us like family. From the pilot to the engineers, the chefs to the lovely Adam who looks after your room, they simply couldn’t do enough. ‘Captain Handsome’ and his team of sailors piloted the Dream with the knowledge of his forefathers, passed through generations.
Food was plentiful and varied, a feast for the senses mixing traditional, local and international cuisine. Everything is prepared with such pride and in such small surroundings. There were many treats and new things to try. I shall be using fava beans in my menus!
The planned itinerary was well considered, building our knowledge and understanding a little more each day. There is nothing that I have seen that could compare to our experiences within the temples and out on the edges of the dessert. The journey to Abu Simbel was incredible, just seeing the dawn break over the dunes was breathtaking. Philae Island and the motor boat transport was a lovely contrast.
Evenings spent in the company of guests and staff were just joyful. Every night was a new experience.
The very best part of the Dream were the staff. They are truly a credit to the company and could not have made us feel safer nor more special. This is a so much more than a trip and certainly one not to miss.

An absolutely stunning holiday made all the more special by the immensely talented Dahabiya Dream crew and team. The vessel was spectacular and the onboard chef was excellent. Specifically, we want to applaud the efforts of Mahmoud, the supremely wise and affable manager / entertainment director. He was constantly attentive, kind, fun, and made sure every single person had what they needed at all times. The whole crew was excellent and contributed to the fun and excitement of our adventure on the Nile (we miss you, Jo!). Additionally, the tours and day trips organized by the company were excellent and we would be remiss not to mention Ahmed, our wonderful, charismatic, and highly knowledgeable Egyptologist. His passion came through in every discussion and engaged the whole family in the wonder of ancient Egyptian history and culture. We left with a better understanding of all things ancient Egypt, but also with a greater affinity for the country and its deep history. Overall, the trip begs to be repeated and we hope to do so again very soon. Bravo and many thanks again to everyone who made the trip so special and unique!

We just returned from an amazing trip on the Dahabiya Dream…wow! The accommodations are charming and comfortable and we visited every important spot along the Nile River Delta but what really makes this trip special is the crew. The food was absolutely delicious.. our Egyptologist Ahmed well informed and personable, our host Mahmoud was above and beyond there to support us in every detail with good humor and care…all of them were just the best! The rooms were clean and comfy… and although you could find more luxurious accommodation on a brand new boat, I do not believe you could match the charm and care of the Dream and their team! Bravo!

This was my second holiday on the Dahabiya Dream and I was not disappointed! I was welcomed back by the crew as an old friend and it was great to see everyone again. The atmosphere on board is informal and fun and I shared the week with a fantastic group of fellow guests. This is like a house party on a boat! Everyone agreed that sailing on the Dahabiya Dream was a far nicer way to travel down the Nile than on one of the bigger cruise ships.

The boat manager, Mahmoud, and his crew looked after us superbly and the food was once again amazing and plentiful! Ahmed, our Egyptologist Guide, carried out his duties to his usual high standard and with his unique sense of humour. It's hard not to be impressed by all the wonderful sites visited on the cruise (even second time around!) and there is a good choice of optional excursions on offer too.

It was sad to learn that tourists are still cancelling or postponing their trips because of the situation in the Middle East, but I can reassure everyone that there is absolutely nothing to be worried about. The Dahabiya Dream team looked after us every step of the way and we never felt unsafe at any point. Egypt is as safe and welcoming as ever.

Thanks again to Linda too for all her help in the organisation of my trip. This included a few extra days in Luxor at the beginning of my holiday to take in some extra sights, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

And who knows, I may even return again one day!

We booked a three day trip to Cairo followed by a week on the Dehabiya Dream with Explore Travel and Tours.

Linda was our point of contact in the UK and she was very well organised, efficient, informative and always helpful throughout the whole process.

The three days in Cairo were amazing and pretty full-on - Saqqara, Memphis, a carpet school, the Pyramids of Giza, a papyrus factory, Cairo Museum, two Coptic churches in Old Cairo and a mosque. Our Cairo guide, Ahmed, kept us very safe and was full of interesting observations and insights about everything we saw. Airpot transfers, taxis, the hotel (Mena House Hotel), entrance tickets, tips, meals etc was all paid for and organised for us so we didn't have to think about anything apart from enjoying ourselves. We felt safe and not at all anxious or at risk in Cairo.

We then flew to Luxor to meet our boat - the Dahabiya Dream. It's a 200-year old sailing boat, beautifully restored with furnishings which were very much in-keeping. We booked the Amelia Edwards suite which came with its own private balcony and ensuite. From the minute we arrived, and were greeted by the boat manager Mahmood and his team, we were treated like kings and queens. The hospitality, food, care, kindness and attention to detail was incredible.

Our Egyptologist Nile guide - Ahmed - is a PhD (Cambridge) Chevening scholar and had an incredible depth of knowledge and was an exemplary and entertaining guide. He thoroughly looked after us on excursions and we felt safe at all times. We visited Esna Temple, Kom Ombo Temple, Isis Temple, sailed on a felucca around the botanical gardens and the Aga Khan Mausoleum, visited Aswan Dam, had a camel ride to St Simeon's Monastery, a hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Queens, a visit to three tombs in the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, Howard Carter's House and Queen Hatsheptut's Temple. We certainly packed it in but in between - just bobbing along on the Dahabiya Dream, observing all the activity on the banks of the Nile, bird watching and dozing - was just magical and so very relaxing.

This was a trip of a lifetime and I would definitely do a return trip and would highly recommend it.

My Best Holiday Ever!
After wanting to go to Egypt for many years and after a lot of research into the best travel companies, Explore Travel and Cruises surpassed my high expectations. From the moment we were met at Cairo airport we were treated incredibly well. The guide in Cairo (Ahmed) was very kind, informative and helpful. The hotel in Cairo and its staff were amazing. Seeing all the sights of Cairo took my breath away.
During our whole time in Cairo and on the Nile cruise we always felt very safe, very cared for and relaxed.
The cruise was the most luxurious experience with a gentle sailing down the river stopping off to explore the extraordinary temples and other sights. The entire crew were amazing and a special shout out to Mahmoud (boat manager), Joe and Adam. Throughout the cruise we were treated like royalty. The Egyptologist Dr Ahmed was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Egypt and it was great to share time with him on board as well as during the excursions.
We took the optional Hot Air ballon ride which was an incredible experience- highly recommend doing this and seeing the Valley of the Queens from the air.
I know that I will look back to this holiday with the most amazing memories for years to come.

We’ve just returned from a wonderful week on the Dream. The hospitality from Mahmoud and the crew was exceptional, the food was excellent and the cabin accommodation comfortable and clean.
Ahmed the archaeologist guide is one of a kind, both erudite and entertaining, just the man to explain the stunning sites of the Nile.
All the Nile cruise ships are suffering from cancellations because of the Middle East situation. We can honestly say that we felt completely safe and there was no hint of tension in the air. We saw more firearms at Heathrow than around the Nile. If you’re thinking of a Dream cruise, go for it!

looked after from the moment we landed . Incredible guide included in the trip around the pyramids and with us at all times etc super hotel aswell with this part of the trip
Then internal flight to Luxor where the incredible Linda owner of the company had up graded all of us as an extra super touch .
Arrived at the boat to be welcomed by a fabulous friendly team who can’t do enough for you ! Boat and crew exemplary!!!! Including our own Egyptologist so fun and knowledgeable. So much nicer than the large boats on the river it’s small therefore quieter and more personal you are looked after as a person not just a passenger!!!
We never felt at any point threatened or troubled by the situations going on in the neighbouring countries !!!!! We found it a safe warm and welcoming country with no hint of troubles . My advice !!! Do your homework but GO !!! And travel with this company with confidence and excitement! You won’t be disappointed!!!!!

Mom and I just had the trip of a lifetime in Egypt! We went to Cairo for 2 days, then aboard the Dahabiya Dream boat from Luxor to Aswan and back. I was a little nervous about going to Egypt, but we were so well cared for, met by someone from Explore Travel the minute we stepped off the plane. The logistical coordination that must take place behind the scenes is mind boggling because all accommodations, car and plane transportation, transfers (including wheelchairs for my mother at all airports), meals and tipping (aside from bathroom attendants who hand you toilet paper and should be rewarded for that) was included. We felt incredibly well looked after and safe at all times. The boat is an original 150 year old traditional Nile sailing vessel (think Agatha Christie) with 6 rooms for a total of 12 guests, not including the onboard Egyptologist, Ahmed, whose extensive knowledge gave us a crash course in ancient Egyptian history, and he reads hieroglyphics! The crew are so friendly and fun, we felt like we came back from a really great wedding with our fellow passengers from the UK and our Egyptian crew. So if going to the pyramids is on your bucket list, GO! Just email Linda, and she will organize it all.

I have just returned from an amazing holiday in Egypt and the highlight was cruising down the Nile on the beautiful Dahabiya Dream. It was an experience like no other - the sights and sounds of the Nile were just
wonderful. The trips to many fascinating temples and tombs were enhanced by Ahmed, our wonderful Egyptologist who made the history come alive. The staff on the boat were so kind, the food was amazing and Adam the towel sculptor made us laugh every day with his animal creations. The star of the show was Mahmoud who was the best host ever! He made us laugh, was so interesting to talk to and even stayed up late playing Uno with my granddaughter! We were sad to hear that some people have missed out on this fantastic adventure because of the situation in the Middle East. At no time did we feel unsafe in Cairo, Luxor or Aswan and we are so pleased we went. Thank you, everyone for making it such a special holiday. We can't wait to come again.

We have just returned from our fabulous Egyptian adventure - three days in Cairo (perfectly arranged by Linda - booking our hotel, guides and itinerary) followed by a heavenly week on the Dahabiya Dream. Egypt was welcoming, friendly and felt absolutely safe. Linda was utterly brilliant with her advice and our endless questions ensuring us a perfect holiday. Her staff in Egypt could not have been more helpful, kind, attentive and fun. Mahmoud our boat manager and all the boat staff treated us like pharaohs and Ahmed our Egyptologist did an amazing job of explaining the lives and times of the real pharaohs and multitude of Egyptian gods with great humour and knowledge. The food on board was delicious and plentiful - how lovely to be eating salads and fish without any worries. We hosted a murder mystery "Death on the Nile" evening and Ahmed and Mahmoud were both characters - we all dressed up and had such fun. It's a very special 200 year old boat that's been perfectly restored - it even has a working ancient wind up gramophone. Along with air conditioning in the cabins. Joe makes a jolly good mojito and is always on hand pouring drinks and making tea/coffee, which we could also help ourselves to. It's a home from home with gorgeous people eager to look after absolutely everything - tea, toast and cocktails, delicious lunches, dinners, UV umbrellas when we were sightseeing and once a human handrail to help us up some steps - what's not to like? Coffee was also fab apparently. Adam's daily towel art on our beds was mind boggling - if we were about to visit a temple worshipping the Nile Crocodile - guess what we found on our bed! We could not fault anything on this holiday and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone - indeed we have been ever since we got back! Thank you to everyone at Explore, we hope to be back soon.

A professional service from start to finish. Linda's communication was the best I have experienced for a holiday. Amazingly responsive and warm in her communications. Our time in Cairo including the luxury Kempiniski was fabulous and our guide Mohammed was amazing. Our time on the Dahabiya Dream felt like being part of one big family. Mahmoud is a champion of a host. Ahmed a legend of hieroglyphics. Joe, Aladeen, Mimi, Adam and all the fantastic crewman are a credit to the company and treated us like Royals. What an amazing week we have just had on the Dahabiya Dream. We were assured that it was absolutely safe to go, given the problems in the Middle East at the moment, and that was our experience. We felt totally safe and at no point had any cause for concern. Everything went as smoothly as it possibly could have. The Dream was absolutely wonderful and all the staff so courteous and helpful. The food was excellent, Mahmoud was great, always making sure we were happy and had everything we needed and our Egyptologist Ahmed was also fabulous and incredibly knowledgeable. Both had a good sense of humour and together they helped make the holiday the success it was. Also, I mustn’t forget the 3 nights we had in Cairo. It was absolutely the right choice to have our first day at leisure relaxing in the hotel and then our guide for the rest of the time in Cairo was also excellent. We’ve come away inspired to learn more about Egypt’s incredible ancient civilisation. Thank you to all concerned.

My wife and I had a most wonderful holiday on board Dahabiya Dream and afterwards in Cairo. The ancient sites that we visited were fascinating and unforgettable. Cruising on this well run Victorian-style dahabiya was for us the perfect way to experience this magical river. The staff were unfailingly attentive, friendly and helpful, the guide was enthusiastic and informative, and and the food was excellent. The holiday surpassed our expectations.

For many years we wanted to visit Egypt. With the Gaza events we have been wondering if we would go, but the UK Foreign Office advice for Cairo and the Nile showed that it is safe. Linda who has been very professional in helping us organising our tour also reassured us so we decided to go. And we were right: we have felt completely and 100% safe during the whole trip. Not only safe but also welcomed as Egyptians are very friendly.

During our 2 days in Cairo and 8 days on the Nile we have seen all the wonders of ancient Egypt that we came for. And they are really worth the trip. We have learned a lot thanks to our guide Mohamed in Cairo to Ahmed during the cruise. Ahmed has a PhD in egyptology and is the most knowledgeable guide one can find between Luxor and Aswan.

The silent and slow pace cruise on the Nile offers stunning landscapes, sunrises and sunsets, and the local life (houses, farmers, fishermen, children playing, …) is extremely picturesque. We saw many species of birds (herons, egrets, king fishers, ibis, red kites, …), do not forget to bring your binoculars. Photography is one of my hobbies and the light was absolutely magical.

But what has made our trip so special is the Dahabiya Dream and its crew. All Dahabiyas are small ships in comparison with other ships cruising the Nile, but Dream is special in that it is an old ship which has been entirely restored back to its original splendour. The deck, the cabins and the small lounge are absolutely magnificent with all the old wood. We had one of the suite at the back of the boat with a private balcony opening on the Nile: the perfect place for an early morning coffee. The boat never docked with the bigger boats which are very noisy and smelling of gasoil, but always on docking areas reserved for the smaller sailing boats.

Last but not least every member of the crew is extremely professional, friendly and helpful. They all go at great length in making the experience a true dream. The boat manager Mahmoud pays attention to every detail, from safety to comfort. Youssef has attended to every of our needs with a smile, while Adam has surprised us every day decorating our room. The cuisine prepared by chef Alaa and sous-chef Mohamed is delicious and varied. We have enjoyed many Egyptian dishes and desserts. While taking care of the boat Captain Mahmoud, Mohamed and Hassan have been extremely friendly.
This crew feels more likely a family, and they create a wonderful atmosphere for the guests.

I have nothing but great things to say about the boat, crew, AMAZING FOOD, and the second home I could call the Dream. The crew made us all feel welcome and like family for our week stay on the ship.
