Cold calling scam. Irish guy and his red headed daughter in a van with an Irish number plate, covered in adverts (none of which actually says either ExtremeSteamClean, the website address or phone numbers that are on the leaflet he gives you) starts by offering to steam clean your driveway and seal it to prevent weed growth for FIVE YEARS GUARANTEED! His van is making a lot of noise as if he's already doing work for one of your neighbours (turned out he wasn't!). He asks if you want them to provide a quote, sounding as if they'll send it to you, so you fill in your address, etc on the form he provides. He then offers to give you a quick demo without saying what that entails or where it will be done. I expected some small inconspicuous place where it wouldn't matter if I decided against it. When you go back in your house to wait for him to come back, he steam cleans a couple of large patches so you are then over a barrel and have to get it all done as it looks stupid now. Then he writes the very large quote on the form that you put your contact details on for the quote there and then. I didn't know what was involved, have a large driveway with a big weed problem that I've been battling with for years. I assumed it was a big job - particularly expecting the sealing to be by roller or similar as he said he had time to do the clean now but would have to come back next week to do the sealing. Because he'd done this demo so I have large white patches on my drive, I reluctantly agreed for him to do the rest. Once the cleaning is done he then puts a large puddle of foam in the middle of the drive and says because it's worse than he thought he will need another 4 tubs of sealant! I said I'm not paying more, this went back and forth a bit then he asked how I'm paying. I said credit card. He said he doesn't take credit cards which he hadn't mentioned before! During the whole time I couldn't find the website address or the two phone numbers listed on the leaflet he gave me, via a google search. Over £700 for just over an hour's work! Looking at other local websites the price was £80-£250 to steam clean and seal a one car drive. I'd assumed the £250 figure would be for somewhere like London, but I'm between Exeter and Plymouth, Devon. To add insult to injury the weeds started growing back immediately! Avoid allowing James from 'AND Property' (which was the name for his bank account (rather than Extreme Steam Cleaning) from Kestrel Way, Exeter, to do any demo or work for you as you will then be over a barrel, overcharged, and have no recourse when his guaranteed 5 years with no weeds claims turn out to be a complete and utter lie! BTW I tried the phone numbers on the leaflet I was given, an Irish guy answered but claimed this wasn't the phone number for Extreme Steam Cleaning. The other phone number went to a voicemail so I'm guessing it belongs to the same guy and I won't be holding my breath for a call back!
