Earlier this month I purchased a vehicle from Ryan at Fish Motors (Hyundai Kona EV) and I couldn’t be more delighted. Firstly, the advertised price was very keen. The description of the vehicle was spot on and when I went to test drive I was met with some really friendly, courteous and knowledgeable guys. I test drove the vehicle and it was a yes from me. The sale was looked after by Ryan. He was great. Not pushy, informative and I felt the whole process could not have been improved on at all. If you are looking for a keenly priced, high quality used car then Ryan and Fish Motors should be your first port of call.

Welcome and friendly. Car ready very quickly and in great condition. Would highly recommend. Chris was also great throughout the whole process.

Really pleased with the service I received from Fish Motors. I part-exchanged my car and was given a fair price for it, which was better than the offers I’d received from other dealers.

Matt was really helpful throughout the whole process — friendly, knowledgeable and happy to explain everything clearly. He made the whole part-exchange process straightforward and stress-free.

⭐️ 1 star – Extremely disappointing after-sales experience - UPDATE TO THEIR RESPONSE***

I purchased a BMW X4 from Fish Motors in June 2026. The sales process was pleasant, but unfortunately the after-sales experience has been very different.

Before collection, I was told the vehicle had been health-checked and prepared for sale. I also specifically raised a historic MOT reference to a suspected transmission leak. I was told this was not a transmission leak, but a seal above the transmission had been replaced and there was no further leak. BMW subsequently inspected the vehicle and recorded a transmission oil leak requiring attention.

Shortly after purchase, the EML appeared and the vehicle required DPF work. The persistent high-pitched whine I am now experiencing was NOT present when I bought the car; it appeared after the DPF work. Fish Motors subsequently replaced the turbo with a reconditioned unit, yet the whine remained.

The car was returned to Fish Motors multiple times and I gave them several opportunities to investigate and resolve the problem. I was subsequently told that independent BMW specialists had inspected it and found nothing wrong. I was also told the noise wasn’t “offensive” to the person who drove it. That isn’t a mechanical diagnosis, and the noise has continued.

BMW then inspected the vehicle and identified several concerns, including the reported whine, a transmission oil leak, suspected DPF damage and concerns regarding the replacement turbo/oil supply arrangements. BMW’s estimate was £8,285.89.

Update: Fish Motors have now responded to this review. I welcome them responding, but several points in their reply do not reflect the chronology above. I have never disputed that they spent money on the vehicle or attempted repairs. My point is that those repairs did not resolve the underlying problem.

I also never claimed the vehicle was undriveable. A car being capable of driving does not mean it has no mechanical fault.

Following the finance company’s final response, I have now arranged an inspection with another independent garage. They will diagnose the vehicle themselves for £60, with their auto-electrician also attending to investigate the electrical issues. They will provide an itemised quotation, prioritised by urgency, so the genuine cost of putting the vehicle right can be established.

I want to keep the X4 and get it properly repaired. I am not simply trying to return the vehicle.

I was also told the vehicle had been inspected by independent BMW specialists. I subsequently attended a separate Fish Motors premises/workshop approximately half a mile away. I would welcome clarification of exactly which independent businesses inspected the vehicle and their written findings.

The finance company has upheld my complaint but has offered to unwind the agreement or consider an economical repair quotation. I have now referred the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

I am leaving this update so potential customers can see both sides. Fish Motors are welcome to contact me directly with evidence and a genuine proposal to resolve matters. I would much rather resolve this and update the review positively.

Ps. Warranty was not purchased because no warranty company will open a policy on a car over 150,000 miles - but fish motors knew that. So, I asked for a discount on the car which evidently was the bare minimal they would do for me considering I secured my own finance, and basically made the entire process a complete breeze for them! No efforts on their side to sell the car - I wanted the car I wanted and they had it.
Ofcourse salesmen are going to be pleasant when selling a car - however the treatment following the sale was poor, including the excuse I have to address that says technicians test drive the vehicle and found no fault - they did find the fault, but later blamed the mileage and age of the car and said ‘’The noise isn’t offensive to me’’

And just for a pointer - the headlight failure means I am unable to drive when the sun goes down.. headlights, indicators, don’t work due to a servo motor failure, whilst fish motors only keep offering to wind the agreement down.

I will also note, the statement Fish motors have provided of spending £1500 which has not been proven.
Although I don’t dispute work has been done, no invoices or proof of any work has yet been provided even though this has been requested from both me and the finance company several times - alas, goes back to my previous point that Fish motors have their own ‘mechanics’ at a unit half a mile up the road doing these ‘repairs’ that are evidently causing more problems for cars.

The matter is now with the FRF & FOS, and failing a fair resolution with them, further steps will follow which may not be limited to court proceedings.

I had a great experience with Fishmotors, especially with Matthew. He was friendly, professional, honest, and very helpful throughout the whole process. He made everything straightforward and stress-free, taking the time to answer any questions and making sure I was happy.

Excellent customer service from start to finish. The vehicle was delivered exactly as promised, on the agreed date, which I really appreciated.

Can't fault the service, no pressure, car ready on time, slick processing. Checked out all the reviews before choosing to use, and worked out some customer expectations are beyond reasonable, and most customers are delighted. Looking forward to driving my new (to me car). After my initial enquiry with Ryan, I could only make it on his day off Chris ensured a seamless handover.

I collected a car from Fish Autos today having viewed the vehicle a couple of days earlier. The car was for my grandson who is learning to drive, so we visited the dealership having seen a selection of cars online suitable as a first car. We were impressed with the selection and were expertly guided by Matthew & Chris. We chose a Seat Ibiza and the deal was struck without any fuss. Upon collection the car was well prepared and all documentation was processed to our satisfaction. I really felt that this was a better than normal purchasing experience. So well done Team Fish Motors.

A very relaxed manner about the business. Ryan was very clear and knowledgeable about the vehicle I bought. There was no hard sell. I would say customer service is a big part of their business. I certainly would recommend a friend to buy from them.
