Gails Harpenden.
Went today and their system took my payment. A few seconds later the ‘manager’ stated the payment hadn't gone through. I checked my bank account and it clearly stated pending. I showed her but she refused to accept and had to pay again. I now have two pending payments. Totally useless, no customer service. That’s the last time i will ever go to Gails and suggest you do the same. Clearly a corrupt system. I shall wait and see if I get my money back.
UPDATE: I returned to Gail’s and found the real manager, and explained the issues with the ‘afternoon’ pretend manager, and was duly refunded without issue. How can some young girl be left in charge without a clue! Faith slightly restored. Now up to three stars.

This place could be so much better if it had more staff. Dirty tables, food on the floor. The kitchen area had a back log of dirty dishes piled up and toilets were without paper. I did ask if our table could be cleaned but was told they were short of staff.

The staff, especially Angel, are always very friendly and attentive. I believe the seeded sourdough loaf to be the best around. While it is more expensive than other bakeries, the quality is there to taste which I don’t mind paying for.

I've walked past Gail's in Harpenden high st many times, today I thought I would sample their coffee.
I wasn't impressed, typical Starbucks quality, my flat white was awful, no distinct coffee aroma, flavour was bland, tasted of coffee flavoured milk!
The ambience is too much like a kitchen. Bright lights and the sound resonates which doesn't make for a relaxing experience.

They offer a long black coffee but it is a jumbo sad Americano, not a long black.

Visited the Harpenden branch for coffee and chose a small quiche and a ham and cheese croissant . Asked for these to be warmed up but apparently Gail’s don’t warm things up as they are hot out of the bakery. I have travelled all over the world and NEVER had this request refused. The items were lukewarm at best. Awful coffee and grubby tables. Over pretentious and overpriced. Never again
