I've been using Habitica for about 6 months, it's relatively simple but it's a cute and engaging way to stay on top of to-do lists, reinforce good habits, and reduce bad habits. It's been useful for me, and especially helpful for my son, who has impulse control issues - Habitica has been great for that little bit of extra motivation and visual feedback.

I have been subscribed to Habitica for a couple years already and it has been helping me a lot in my life. I also would like to mention that when I reported a bug to the staff, they responded very fast and fixed it, and even gave me some gems for the trouble. That's not the usual treatment I get when I report bugs anywhere, they usually just ignore me or tell me 100 times to turn it off and on again.

I don't really understand why the majority of reviews are 1 stars,I think Habitica is perfectly fine.They made in a way as if its a game,and little did I know that this is the kind of app I was looking for,and every bit of it suited my needs,though at first I did find it hard to navigate through,but now I realize this is THE app to motivation and sucess,getting tasks done effectively could not have been easier thanks to them,would definetely recommend!!

Hi My account was banned after someone reported me. I explained everything with proof and even apologized, though I did nothing wrong. They ignored all my emails. I didn’t even get a warning, although warnings are usually given first. I also lost all my in-app purchases and resources. I don’t understand this treatment. Great app, but support is very poor and unprofessional

Love this gamified todo app. It’s been perfect for getting me and my adhd brain completing tasks and remembering to do essential basic tasks. Would recommend it highly. I have all my friends and family habiticking too

I was a longtime user. The ressources that were provided by the community were most helpful - now that there are no social spaces anymore, this app is no better (and probably worse) than any app for to do lists. I moved to another app and now I also understand that Habitica doesn't include that many features for its price.

I used to be a contributor for Habitica, and I've left even after spending money on the app. Not because I wanted to leave, but because I was forced. And why was I forced? Simply because I spoke out about what the staff were doing and because my "profile" was bad since I mentioned some things the staff did. This was done without any sort of warning and they did not let me know this was a problem when they muted me for helping spread the word, simply using it as an excuse to hide away my words.

This app is a horrible place with an amazing community that is fogged up by the disastrous staff. The Tavern was always a great place with the Moderators always there to help out, but now... the Moderators have been shut off and the staff that replaced them are worse than bad.

And now, the staff have even blocked up and removed the best features of the app. Challenges, Guilds, and the Tavern. Those 3 were the 3 biggest reasons why I joined the app aside from parties, which I'm glad they've kept for now.

The devs are greedy and now take away the biggest community feature of the app which thousands of users depend on. They also don't recognise the effort volunteers put into their app. Don't support them, they don't deserve it.

The community was nice up until the paid staff got rid of the team of 8 volunteer moderators. Now it's not only not safe for people who simply want to improve their lives, but also allows underaged children to wander without permission, putting the entire platform at risk as well.

I'm not sure if I'll have access to the platform on any given day because it feels like I'm walking on eggshells. A 7-tiered player (someone who's achieved a high rank in the Socialite ladder) was banned for explaining the situation in their bio, and their tiers were unceremoniously taken away from them as well. I do not like to say this about a platform I used to love, but Habitica is crawling with corruption.

The situation with the moderators is truly sad and heartbreaking. Do better, Habitica.

I used to really like Habitica despite the bugginess. Yes, there were things that could be improved (like the ability to import complex tasks would be very nice!), but I liked the theme, I liked supporting a small business, and even though I'm not a generally social person and didn't hang out in the social places, I felt safe with its reputation for LGBT-friendliness and no-tolerance policies for harassment.

Then they abruptly fired all the volunteer mods that kept the social spaces safe, and seem to have started banning anyone who makes their lives more difficult -- which means banning the people who complain about harassment, but ignoring the harassers. I don't feel like it's a safe space for vulnerable people anymore.

I also don't feel like it's safe to assume I'll have an account tomorrow! I have seen a staff member act very aggressively, threatening to ban someone for making a good-faith suggestion in a fairly obscure, if technically public, chat area. The person threatened wasn't me, but what if I'm the next person who says something well-intentioned, and the staff decide to go off the deep end? I'm definitely not putting any more real money into a platform this unstable.

On the topic of subscribing, though, I have to say I was honestly a bit underwhelmed by the subscriber-only benefits. One of the reasons I subscribed is that I'm a bit of a completionist, so I thought "collect everything" might make a bit of a motivating goal. However, after subscribing and seeing how many gems I got each month, I realized it would take something like 10 years of subscribing to actually collect all of the past backgrounds, not to mention all the past grand gala outfits. And the past subscriber-only outfits can only be purchased with hourglasses, which you only get 4 of per year. 12 get released each year, so for each year you *weren't* subscribed, it'll take 3 years of being subscribed to catch up. Plus there's some pets & mounts you can only get by using hourglasses.

Not to mention that the subscriber-only outfits are often of lower artistic quality than the ones the volunteers make, and frequently they're just recolors of past subscriber-only outfits.

I still like Habitica's theme, but it doesn't feel like a safe space anymore, and it *certainly* doesn't feel like a small business worth supporting. No company with venture capital should be relying as much on volunteer labor as they have been. I have to wonder how much longer the company will last -- they might have only "fired" the volunteer mods, but the ripples from that seem to be hitting the volunteer artists, wiki maintainers, and third-party-app developers pretty hard.

Habitica seemed great at first, but after a bit it just became boring and repetitive. I wish there was something more to work towards instead of just outfits. I always forget to even look at my tasks and there's just not much there to motivate me. Plus, the mods, who I found to be wonderful people, aren't working there anymore which I find quite sad. They were good at their jobs, the community was the one thing I liked about it.

Extremely buggy. If you try to post images or screenshots in the app version, they end up extremely small and hard to read/see. Definitely needs an update and fast.

Also...

The community in it is what keeps people coming back. Guilds, Parties, and Groups are how people are kept accountable. Accountability is always something that helps habits to develop, as you have someone to talk to/get encouragement from and vice versa... But that's sadly had to change due to some unfortunate events that have transpired throughout the past 2 months when the entire volunteer moderator team, who have sacrificed years of their time and energies to Habitica's cause to keep it a safe and welcoming place with a warm atmosphere and good vibes were essentially fired and told their services were not needed. This was after a part-time paid employee was fired for bringing up concerns that have been glanced over numerous times before.

It's truly heartbreaking if you know the whole story. And the staff of this app does nothing but silence people who try and speak up against such treatment.

As an app, Habitica is buggy, slow to load and lacking in features with no significant new releases in years. But the staff promote the vibrant community as a major USP for their app. And it was vibrant... until they removed fired their moderation team with no preparation, alienated all volunteers on the platform and posted rude and threatening messages, violating their own community guidelines. Anyone speaking up against these changes is being muted or banned with no explanation. Give your custom to a deserving company, not this one.

Habitica; Do Better.

If there was the option for a 0 star review, that is what I would give. I used to love the community in Habitica. It's what kept me there, but the staff have been getting out of hand. 4 contributors who've spent years on Habitica and spent hundreds of dollars on the app have been banned. And this is simply because they spoke out. They wanted respect from the staff. They wanted recognition, and what were they met with? Bans! The staff have not been recognizing their contributions, telling them to "Do better" with no word of thanks. Habitica is no longer safe. The staff are banning and muting people for no proper reason or warning, and deleting posts without explaining why. Stay away from this site if you're looking for a welcoming community. The moderators used to create this environment, but it's no longer given by the staff who fired the moderators.

What made Habitica superior to other web pages and apps? The community, it was the reason I used it for years. Now all the people that dedicated their time to make it interesting by creating challenges are going away, the founders of guilds are switching to other alternatives. Even the tavern (which is the global chat) looks more empty. The reason of this decadence? The site developers and owners, who for years relied on works of volunteers, decided to remove the voluntary moderators when they pointed out that a "Thank you" sometimes is appreciated. Even the slightest criticism will result in the deletion of the message and muting the user. It's sad to see so many fellow users abandoning the platform but without the social part there are fairly better alternatives which provide more statistics and more motivating features

Since December 2022, moderation in public areas has been close to non-existing.

Staff are generally treating volunteer contributors poorly (and rudely), and has recently started removing posts that are criticizing recent changes and additions.

Furthermore, both the apps and the website has been buggy for years.

The platforms rely heavily on volunteer work, which is shady considering they are a for-profit company.

As a task-management platform, it's okay. But if you are just looking for a good task management platform, I would look elsewhere to a place with fewer bugs.

What made Habitica different from many of the other platforms were is social aspects. But those are turning spammy and unfcomfortable to be in with the removal of the volunteer moderation team.

I used to highly recommend this platform, because it was a welcoming space. I do not recommend it any longer. I do hope that things will change for the better, but 2 months has passed and things just seem to get worse and worse.

If you are already a user there, you should take a hard look in Aspiring Socialites guild to see how staff is treating the volunteer workers. If you are not a user, you should considering checking out some of the posts on r/habitica.

Great life management app that uses gamification as a device for motivation!

In there you can customize your own "quests" in three categories:
1. Habits, which can be completed as many times as needed per day
2. Dailies, which can be completed once per day

Combined with character classes, levels, pets, mounts, items and much more, Habitica provides a new layer of meaning and motivation for the gaming-inclined user.
