Beware of the $150 CAD Deposit Scam

I've been trying to get my $150 CAD key deposit back from Harrington Housing for almost two months, and at this point, they don't even bother responding to emails. They're nothing but scammers. The same thing is happening to all my friends who rented from them.

That being said, the apartment itself wasn't terrible, but the pictures they advertise are nowhere near reality. When we moved in, no one had even cleaned the place—it was absolutely disgusting. And the claim that the apartment is "fully equipped" is a complete lie. There was a single dirty plate and a broken spoon. My roommate and I had to buy an entire new set of dishes and even a frying pan.

But most importantly, the deposit situation is a scam. They are blatantly stealing our money, and it's unacceptable. Avoid them at all costs.

Do not book with them, they practically harass you. They have several websites with similar property listing
My room had insects coming out of the bathroom, which infested my clothes. The lights in my room never worked. The kitchen was in a very bad condition, and the bathroom was old and hardly had hot water. They practically fake walls and are renting out for a lot of money. The prices in London is so high compared to the Shitty Rooms, they have.
I have been emailing them since October. Nobody has replied to me. I only get emails for paying my rent. I have already paid my rent and I gave them a notice and moved out on the day. My rent was ending. They are now emailing me and harassing me, asking for more money, even though I found a replacement for my room by myself for them, I did their work. It’s a scam company. Do not book with them. Repeat do not book with them, my roommates are so irritated by that company and are waiting to move out. They will do anything to scam and out of you.

So I went to checked an apartment on 561 and 565 and I met Noor. during my house viewing, and I couldn’t be more grateful for her help. She was professional, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable, making the entire process smooth and stress-free. Noor took the time to understand my preferences and provided valuable insights that helped me make an informed decision.
Her attention to detail and friendly approach made me feel comfortable throughout the viewing. She was always available to answer my questions and went above and beyond to ensure I had all the information I needed. If you’re looking for someone reliable and dedicated to helping you find the right home, I highly recommend Noor!

Nightmare

The management of this place is extremely unresponsive. People smoke weed inside their rooms, and despite multiple complaints, nothing has been done about it. Additionally, the walls are so thin that I can even hear mice walking inside them and around the room. The living conditions here are unacceptable.

Customer service sucks…!

Really bad customer support they keep hiring just anyone with no experience they’re pretty young adults that work and rent for free. There’s never someone that helps you when you need them. They switch places and they keep charging you the same amount of money for an old building. They choose big buildings so maintenance fee is cheaper but they don’t tell us that. Lots of homeless people come in and out, drunk people, garbage and recycling room is always filthy and full etc. Spoke to building admin they just say it happens frequently and they don’t hurt anyone until they will. Sometimes they contact police but it takes more than 20mns to arrive sometimes hours when they’re already gone. Pretty unsafe when you’re a female student and uses the basement laundry room at night or even when is day time I seen homeless entering into the building and sleeping in hallways and lobby areas I told Harrington staff about it and they took a while to reply and said: talk to the office that not my job that theirs they never help you out on anything you may need. But before rental payment comes a whole week reminds you via emails that you must pay in time or late charges and send you to legal department. It’s hard to find good building admin and staff who are reliable. You trust them to help you but honestly you have to keep pushing them with calls emails they never pick up calls. They’re always late when they book to meet you or when moving into the building is just not very competent people at Harrington is just unreliable that’s all I can say.

Deposit Scam

I booked and stayed with the company for 4 months, however after my contract ended and I moved out, they did not return my deposit of 900 dollars.
I tried contacting the company number of times, however I hardly got a reply

SCAM!!

SCAM!!! Please do not ever purchase anything from Harrington Housing. I was living in Toronto. They took 364 dollars of placement fee and security deposit from me before I even started renting, I later found a friend who gave me a place for free, they ghosted me after I cancelled my stay with them!!!

Really terrible experience at 897 College St Toronto Canada

I moved into 897 College St, and while the building itself is a good place, the rooms rented and supervised by Harrington Housing were terrible. First of all, they have illegally cut up a two bedroom suite into four bedrooms by placing some plastic boards in-between one of the rooms and then strap a curtain and called it a "door". Furthermore, my experience was abysmal to say the least. My experience with Harrington Housing was deeply disappointing, riddled with unprofessional behavior, poor communication, and negligence.

It all began before my move-in date when I was told the day before that my key wasn’t ready, forcing me to delay my move. On September 3rd, the representative, Lilly, who was supposed to meet us at 1 PM, didn’t arrive until 4:30 PM and still didn’t have my fob. The room shown to me wasn’t the one advertised, and when I raised concerns about its condition, Lilly responded unprofessionally. Only after asking to terminate my lease was I shown another room, which I reluctantly agreed to take, paying the difference via e-transfer.

The maintenance was equally frustrating. On September 4th, I discovered my room's door hinge was falling off. I filed a support request on September 6th and followed up multiple times (September 26th, October 2nd, October 15th) without resolution. Lilly eventually took a photo of the hinge but failed to act on it. It wasn’t until mid-October that someone came to fix it, arriving hours later than scheduled. A separate ticket for a broken kitchen sink filed on November 6th also went unanswered.

Financial matters were handled even worse. A rent discrepancy in November led to a series of automated emails threatening legal action, even though my father had reached out on November 6th to resolve the issue. It took until November 26th—two days after the rent deadline—for the team to respond. When I spoke to Olga about it, her unprofessional behavior only added to my stress. She accused me of negligence and deflected responsibility, even though the issue stemmed from Harrington’s poor communication and record-keeping. After countless follow-ups, I finally learned the discrepancy was due to an extra week in November because of their weekly billing structure—a detail that could have been clarified weeks earlier.

The lack of transparency, delayed responses, and unprofessionalism from staff like Lilly and Olga made this an incredibly stressful and disappointing experience. I would not recommend Harrington Housing to anyone seeking reliable and professional housing. One star is too much to give for the folks that handled my building.

I’ve had an amazing experience living…

I’ve had an amazing experience living here! The environment is incredibly peaceful, and it's clear that everyone takes pride in maintaining the shared spaces — everything is always clean and well-kept. The staff are exceptional, always friendly and willing to go above and beyond to assist. A special shout-out to Uma, who has been nothing short of fantastic. She’s professional, attentive, and truly cares about the residents. I couldn't ask for a better place to call home!

Avoiding this agency

I highly recommend avoiding this residence and its accommodations. I stayed here for four months, and the experience was far from satisfactory. The rent is exorbitant (1380 CAD for four weeks in a shared apartment with two other roommates), and the apartments are in poor condition (holes in the walls, dilapidated kitchen, etc.). We were shown a different apartment, one in much better condition, before we moved in. After reporting issues with an extremely untidy roommate, no action was taken. Additionally, it took over an hour to reach someone on the phone just to collect my keys. According to the lease, the key deposit should be refunded within 21 days of departure. I left on August 31, but as of December 16, I'm still fighting with Harrington, who refuses to return my deposit and claims we never paid one. I stayed in the residence on Sherbourne Street in Toronto.

They are scam

They are scam. They took 1460$ as security and never refunded. Tried to contact them but no one responded for 5months. I am a student and it became difficult for me without my refund to survive.

Scam scam big time scam in London it is run by a guy called Feraht also known as Ferry he hides behind the company now as he as been exposed if you look on companies house he resigned as director but he is the man in charge he puts random people as directors so he can try and hide his footsteps your deposit will not be return and ALL OF THEIR 5 STAR REVIEWS ARE FAKE AND WRITTEN BY THEM the police and council are aware of their scam

This company is a total scam!

This company is a total scam!! RUN AWAY and don't make any reservations with them.I even think he enjoys doing it. They paid for positive review!!don't be fooled by positive reviews.It's fake!!
I booked a room with free cancellation for 24 hours. I paid $350 including $150 of refundable key deposit and since then they don't answer my emails and don't want to refund me. They don't even want to give me back my $150 key refundable

The staff has been very helpful

The staff has been very helpful. Both the landlords are absolutely sweet. Very kind. It honestly makes me wanna stay another several months. If it wasn’t for them, I would not be where I am today and I’m very grateful 💯❤️

They took my money and ran away. They scammed me out of $350

They took my money and ran away. I paid $350 for a booking on their website, and they said I could cancel within 24 hours. I tried to cancel almost immediately after I paid because a family member offered me a home, but they have not cancelled it until now; rather, they are sending emails requesting more payment. DO NOT USE THEM. THEY ARE A SCAM! I have proof to verify my claim. I am so sad.UPDATE-: After some days of posting this review, (whilst still trying to reach out to them and talk to them via their live chat on the website), they refunded the money. So i am so happy i have my money back but man it took me to spiral in order to get it back. My goodness. So they work i guess but use the company at your own risk still.
