Not disability friendly.
I was planning to attend a festival in Bristol, so booked a studio apartment via booking.com, which happened to beanaged by Hopewell.
The booking page didn't mention a security deposit, so it was a bit of a surprise to be told that on top of the £203 for 2 nights, I would be out a further £150.
The 'guest portal' should have had various bits of information, such as address, and check in details, as per a message received after completing the post check in details, however all that was there was the invoice for the stay.
I sent a message a few days before the stay to ask for the address, and was told that they wouldn't provide this information until the day of check in, however I was told that 'The property is located in queens square in Bristol, which narrows it down accurately for you to plan around initially'.
Unfortunately, I am a disabled person, so require details to arrange travel and and to prepare for check in, and requested the details as a reasonable adjustment under the Equality Act 2010. The response I received was equally rude - "I’m not sure I understand where the Equality Act comes into play here,
However I can tell you that the flat is located in queens square, is completely self check in and you will access the property using a main door with an electronic keypad then access the flat door using a keysafe which holds your key
I’m afraid we cannot give the check information until 24 hours before arrival for security reasons
If you look up Queens Square on Google, you will see the area and can plan your journey"
Unfortunately, the vague area is t good enough, and I was appalled at how rude the person responding was.
The following day, they did provide all the information I needed, however that does not negate the poor attitude and discrimination I experienced beforehand.
Previous communication from them had also been very rude and abrupt, so this is obviously an ongoing problem.
When I came to the day of my stay, I had to cancel, due to an emergency, and as per the booking.com website, I requested a cancellation, with reduced fees if at all possible. No consideration was given to my situation, and a flat no was given, this is DESPITE THEM ALLOWING ME TO TO REQUEST A CANCELLATION WITHOUT FEES. Maybe don't offer that as an option if you're going to be so rude about it. I wasn't even asking for a full refund.
The day before my stay, they attempted to charge my card for the £150 security deposit, however they did not use the correct security procedures, so it was automatically declined. This is a huge concern, as they show have the correct security protocols in place to protect customers data, which it seems they do not. I had to go out of my way to sort this issue out.
I wouldn't recommend ever booking a short term let with these people as they are utterly unaware of the Equality Act, acting in a discriminatory manner, and their customer service certainly leaves an awful lot to be desired.
