Do Not Be Blinded by the Reputation: Student Safety & Basic Security Are Severely Compromised
As a parent whose child worked tirelessly, studying day and night to earn a seat at this IIT Roorkee, I am writing this with immense frustration, disappointment, and concern. Like many parents, we were misled by the college's high rankings, academic prestige, and glowing brand name. However, the reality ground reality is shocking: student security and basic living conditions are being entirely neglected.
The most glaring and dangerous issue is the complete lack of campus and hostel security, specifically regarding a severe, uncontrolled stray dog menace inside the student accommodation buildings.
Key Safety & Security Concerns:
Unchecked Access Across All Floors: Stray dogs are not just roaming the outdoor grounds; they are freely wandering through the living quarters and corridors—reaching as high as the 8th floor of the residential towers. This clearly demonstrates zero monitoring, non-existent perimeter security, and a total failure of basic hostel management.
Active Physical Threats to Students: These dogs frequently chase students, causing terror during simple daily routines like walking to classes or returning to rooms.
Severe Injuries & Dog Bites: Multiple students have already been bitten on campus. Young adults who came here to focus on their higher education are instead being forced to rush to medical centre for anti-rabies injections.
Administrative Apathy: Parents and students have repeatedly raised formal complaints with the administration. Unbelievably, the college management has simply turned a blind eye, ignoring the life-threatening risks to its residents.
A brand name is absolutely nothing if an institute cannot guarantee the fundamental physical safety of its students.
To all prospective students and parents: Do not let the reputation fool you. Until the management takes concrete, accountability-driven action regarding campus security, stay away from this college.
Actionable Measures the College Administration Must Take Immediately
Strict Entry Controls & Infrastructure Upgrades:
Install physical barrier doors/gates at hostel building entrances
Mandate 24/7 security personnel monitoring at residential building entry gates
Partner with Municipal Authorities & Animal Welfare NGOs:
Coordinate with the local municipal corporation (under the Animal Birth Control / ABC Rules) and certified NGOs to conduct systematic sterilization, vaccination (anti-rabies), and relocation programs.
Secure Waste Management Systems:
Stray animals frequent hostels due to exposed food waste. The administration must implement strictly covered, tamper-proof waste bins near food courts, canteens, and hostel disposal sites to eliminate food sources.
To the IIT Roorkee Administration: This is just the beginning. Do not let your reputation obscure your negligence. I am actively sharing this reality across the internet, and the campaign will not stop until our children's safety is guaranteed through immediate action.
