JD Gyms Renfrew top manager Nicola Goldie.
I joined JD Gyms because of their 24 hours openings.
Renfrew is a Fantastic gym,,lots of space, and it suits me because I can't make the gym during the day all the time,.
On duty tonight was the wonderful Nicola Goldie, ,one of the gym managers.
Nicola Goldie is so helpful,, polite and competent at her job.
She makes your time at the gym a very pleasant experience,, and I always look forward to Ms Goldie being on duty.
She keeps the gym tidy and in order.
I enjoyed my workout tonight,,,and look forward to another evening at Renfrew,,,made all the better with the organisational skills and experience of Nicola Goldie.

My PT experience
I was extremely anxious about starting the gym so decided to invest in a personal trainer to boost my confidence, and i have never looked back. My PT Hamed has helped me go from strength to strength by being so kind and understanding as well as pushing me to do my very best and stay motivated. He is an excellent PT and I have already lost 12kg and counting with his help, he is an asset to your gym.

Good and bad points
Plus points 1st
The staff are all brilliant.
Lots of benches and free weights.
Great cable machines .
Minus points
New ( debatable ) treadmills are like running on concrete.
No give in them at all.
Lots of old weight machines more than 12 years old with an atrocious range of motion on most of them.
The newer weight machines are cheap Russian crap that are either broken or have a poor load profile.
No shower or changing rooms opened until 6am Monday to Friday or 8am Saturday/Sundays.
Head office says it's company policy,but I've used Glasgow southside changing rooms and showers on the weekend at 5.30am Sunday a lot.
One disabled toilet ( shower ) facility for up to 100 people to use between 10pm and 6am Monday to Friday and 10pm to 8am Saturday/Sunday .
If someone uses the shower in the disabled toilet ( as advised to do so by head office ) there's a que for the toilet most days.
Absolutely shocking for a gym this popular that gets busy from 5am in the morning.
There's also no music playing in the gym when unmanned by staff because of one members complaint of it being to loud.
Also due to this the health and safety announcements when the gyms unmanned can't be heard due to the sound system turned down.
So it's like training in a library until 07.30am at the weekend.
This jd gym could be so much better if jd listened to its customers suggestions and complaints through their staff and spent some of the money they rake in from their 7500 renfrew members every month.

Hello James, thank you for taking the time to leave us such a detailed review.
We have no doubt the team in Renfrew will be happy with your praise about the team there and the majority of the negative points are around the company policies and not things that are in their control.
We will forward on your points around thee music level though as we would not want this effecting the atmosphere/experience within those times.
The majority of our gyms are 24/7 however the gyms that are, can have different "staffed hours", which is club specific and fall inline with our "24/7, out of hours" policy of restricting access to areas that do not have as much CCTV coverage.
In terms of the equipment, we do encourage you to discuss any concerns with the management team in Renfrew if you feel there are any safety issues with any of the equipment specifically. The team do work hard with our suppliers and regular maintenance checks to ensure everything in the gym is safe for our members to use.
We do have procedures in place if you would like to escalate your concerns further.

Come to combat (Sunday service) you won't regret it
Great gym, loads of equipment, not bad class schedule.
This is my second gym & I come for Bodycombat specifically with Louise on a Friday & Sunday.
Louise has excellent energy & really gets everyone involved & motivated, everyone that attends the classes are super friendly & welcoming! You don't find a better Bodycombat instructor if your new, you'll be motivated & energised buzzing for the next session!
Would be good if there was a bit more variety of classes & when the instructors need time off they are covered like for Luke & not just JD burn all the time.
Like I said great energy & brilliant bunch of people that will make you feel welcome on your first or hundredth class!

Replacing like for like can be difficult when Combat instructors are in such high demand and have set classes/commitments elsewhere. However we aim to work hard with our freelance instructors to have as much notice as possible to have a 'fighting' chance of getting another Combat instructor to cover. We are loving how passionate you are about doing the classes at our Renfrew gym.

Louise's Body Combat classes
As an avid gym go-er, but solely weights, I decided to try a body combat class at JD. Louise is the most welcoming and energetic instructor. Her classes (Fri & Sun) all have a strong sense of 'community' and she makes the toughest workouts so much fun. I've never seen anyone with such enthusiasm and passion, it overflows and inspires each and every one of us in the class. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to try something different in the gym. I'd love to see more classes from Louise on the schedule too.

Louise's combat classes
I use this gym purely for Louise's combat classes. They are so much fun and there are no cliques. When you join there are happy faces all round - so very welcoming.
I would love for more combat to be on offer.
Louise is very professional (and wait until she gets the whistle out) and is willing to take time to give options and coach you with movements that i maybe struggling with.
The only downside is, if combat is off for whatever reason, then it is always replaces with JD burn. Would be great if combat were to be replaced with combat!

This gym is not safe for women.
Today I was showering when the cleaning lady let a man get in the ladies' showers, it's the second time this happens a short time in this gym, it had never happened to me in Greenock but Renfrew did. I talked to the manager about this the first time it happened and he assured me that it would never happen again and it happened again.This gym is not safe for women and I would like to put an official claim, you should work on this more so that users are safe in your facilities.

Other than ensuring our members safety and enjoyment whilst in our gyms we also have a duty to keeping our changing rooms clean and well maintained. If there is the need for any maintenance to be completed in the female changing area the engineer/contractor will be accompanied by a female member off staff at all times during their works, having announced themselves prior to entering. Ensuring we keep all of our facilities available during any minor works. Or get another member of staff to enter ahead of them to make members aware. If, however this didn't happen or you are still unhappy about this matter please do speak with the General Manager in your club and they can explain the procedure of raising your concerns further. Renfrew gym went downhill
Renfrew gym.
Leaving after being a member for almost a year.
Too busy (although not the gyms fault)
No sauna
Removing of paper towels, unhygienic
New treadmills whilst quieter are horrible to run on, never had knee pain in my life until recently. It's these treadmills. Stopped running on them and my knees are better.
Clips for bars are few and far between if they work/not broken.

Covers all the bases
Good selection of equipment and spaced out into different areas. Sections for Cardio, AstroTurf Track to do sled pulls and pushes, can do Crossfit, mat work and all compound and isolation exercises with Bench, Squat and Cable machines, Back and Shoulder machines, the lot. It can get busy but that's due to how popular the place is, so you just need to find your feet and work out what time is best for you to get the full experience without it being too crowded.
