Carriers and brokers
Carriers and brokers: please do your research before relying on this bond company.
Our company completed a vehicle transport for a broker. The vehicle was delivered successfully, with no damage and no dispute that the customer received the vehicle. Because the delivery occurred after hours and the customer was not physically available to sign the BOL, we did not obtain a delivery signature.
However, we provided supporting evidence, including text messages, photographs, delivery confirmation, and communications showing that the customer authorized the after-hours delivery and received the vehicle successfully. The customer was satisfied with our transportation service.
Despite this, the broker refused to pay us, and our bond claim was denied based on the missing signature.
What was especially disappointing was that we asked Jet Insurance Services to simply contact the customer and independently verify that the vehicle had been received. We were told, in substance, that verifying this with the customer was not their responsibility and that we would need to pursue the matter through civil/small claims court.
That raises a serious question for carriers: What protection does a broker bond actually provide when there is substantial evidence that the contracted transportation service was completed, yet the carrier still has to file a lawsuit to pursue payment?
In our experience, the process felt far more focused on defending the broker against the claim than investigating whether the carrier had actually performed and earned payment.
I strongly encourage motor carriers to check which surety/bond company backs a broker before accepting a load. If I see Jet Insurance Services associated with a broker in the future, I personally will think twice before accepting that broker’s freight because of our experience with this claim.
I would also encourage brokers shopping for a bond provider to understand exactly how legitimate carrier payment disputes will be handled. A bond should provide confidence to the transportation industry—not leave a carrier that completed the work feeling that its only meaningful option is going to court.
We transported the vehicle. The customer received the vehicle. There was no damage. We provided evidence of delivery. Yet we were still not paid, and the bond claim was denied.
That is why I cannot recommend Jet Insurance Services based on our experience.
