Parking fee scam

The Hotel informed us that we did not need to pay any parking fee because we were purchasing refreshment. They told us to write our registration number on a sheet and we would be fine. We did as they asked but have now received a parking fine £100. I appealed the notice and have been told we would need to supply receipts which we do not have.

Parking fines

Our group visited the hotel. We had drinks in the bar and filled in the vehicle registration list on the bar as directed by the barman. This we were assured would allow us to park for free.
Despite this all three vehicles in the group got parking invoices for £100 each.
I messaged the hotel but got no response.
The parking firm have been difficult demanding proof of purchase. Dispute still ongoing.
Do not visit unless you are prepared to undertake a battle with the parking mgt firm.

Another parking fee/fine story.

Another parking fee/fine story.
Stopped for less than 1 hr for lunch in their Wee Inn side bar. Took special note to ensure I added my car registration to the list of customers vehicles. Noted the barman was reminding people to do the same.

Despite this, I received a £100 demand on my return home. Obviously I’ve appealed and will pay £0 but the pattern is there. See others complaining about the same. They’ll blather on about admin errors and the like but I don’t like their attitude. Go to the Clachaig at the bottom of the valley. Better all round.

Please take note to not stop here unless…

Please take note to not stop here unless you are staying at the hotel.

We pulled into the parking lot for about 30 minutes to head into the restroom. No signs on the building or anywhere in the parking lot noted parking fees.

As we pulled out and drove away, we noticed a sign that looked like it commented about parking off to the side near the entrance. We thought we were fine given the timing we were there. We received a £100 pound fine a week later through the car rental agency from the Hotel.

Given there was no information posted in the parking lot or on the building and only a small sign was off to the side of the entrance, it feels they are making it purposefully difficult to see and in a way it is deceptive.

Fraudolent parking behavour

We visited the restaurant and gave them our license plate number as instructed. Nevertheless, we received a parking ticket two weeks later, which caused additional costs of USD 100 — USD 60 for the fine and USD 40 in rental company handling fees.

The most frustrating part was that the hotel/restaurant did not provide any meaningful support to help resolve the issue, even though we followed their instructions.

This experience felt extremely unfair and unprofessional. I would strongly advise others to be careful when parking there.

I’m leaving this review as a warning to…

I’m leaving this review as a warning to anyone thinking of dining at Kingshouse Restaurant. My partner and I visited recently and had a lovely meal — the food and setting were great. Unfortunately, what followed completely ruined the experience.

Despite following their parking policy (we spent well above the amount required for free parking and kept our receipt as proof), I later received a parking fine. I contacted the restaurant immediately, sent all the necessary evidence, and followed up multiple times — but received no reply at all.

To make matters worse, my rental company has now charged me for the fine, since the restaurant never helped to resolve it. What should have been a pleasant meal has turned into an incredibly frustrating and costly experience — quite possibly the most expensive dinner of my life.

It’s disappointing that a place promoting hospitality would ignore customers in this way. Until Kingshouse addresses these parking issues and starts responding to people properly, I’d strongly advise others to think twice before dining here.

Not worth the money

The hotel is in the most beautiful location, this is the number one reason for staying there. The room is a good size and with a bath in the en suite. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The evening meal was superb. The huge disappointment and the reason why the review is not higher was the breakfast. It was canteen style, all out on hot plates to serve yourself. If I have paid this much money for a hotel room with breakfast included, I expect it to be cooked to order. No-one wants bacon and eggs that have been sitting out on a hot plate. Not worth the money I'm afraid.

Hikers beware

We stopped in during our West Highland Way walk — tired, wet, and hoping for a bit of shelter and hospitality. What we got was a clear message: unless you're booking a luxury room or dropping serious cash, you're not welcome. Walkers, once the lifeblood of this place, are now treated like an inconvenience. A soulless cash grab dressed in glass and wood, the Kingshouse has all the warmth of a tax office. Glencoe deserves better

So much potential…but

So much potential…but

Receptionists not welcoming, bordering on hostile, rooms with the kitchen ventilation running and smelling of chips (so avoid odd numbers), service in bar and restaurant in total shambles. They mean well but no adult present to tell them what to do. The place wants to be fancy but it it borderline ridiculous. The only reason they are still in business is lack of competition. Walk the extra miles to avoid

A Fine for customers

Upon entering the hotel, there was no one at the reception, and we found a notice stating that the restaurant was only for residents that day. We waited for some time, trying to find someone to ask about ski rentals, but with no staff available, we eventually left.

Later, we were shocked to receive a fine simply for stopping at the hotel—essentially for attempting to be customers. This is completely unfair and inconsiderate. The situation was made worse by cars parked at passing places to view wildlife, which delayed our exit.

In the end, we couldn’t even get lunch because of the hotel’s lack of service. If they do not welcome visitors or cannot provide basic hospitality, they should make that clearer rather than punishing potential customers. Very disappointing experience!

We were greeted on arrival on the 9th…

We were greeted on arrival on the 9th of February at 3pm and we were told our room was not going to be ready due to staff shortages until 4pm. Although the email had stated check in was 3pm. We then checked back at 4pm and was told the room was not ready but then she went and double checked as I asked her to. As I was needing a lie down due to being 31 weeks pregnant and we were not able to see the Scotland game in the bar.

Our room was then ready therefore we made our way up to our room to lie down and watch the Rugby game which was not possible as the tv kept freezing.

We were staying in Room 207 and there was quite a lot of mould on the ceiling in the bathroom. I previously had requested a bath prior to my stay due to being pregnant. Although I was not pleased when the bath did not work, I did report this to reception. Both single beds which were put together in the King room are different heights therefore my partner had to lie on one and I had to lie on the other.. there was also a severe lack of staff in the bar when having a few drinks and eating breakfast in the morning. We waited quite a while to get our table.

Only solution was to offer 20% off future stay. I have used Hotels by Crieff Hydro in the past and this is certainly not the standard I would expect to see! Would not recommend booking here unfortunately. Outside and inside reception area looks lovely, room not soo great!

Misleading and Unfair Parking Charges

Misleading and Unfair Parking Charges

I had an extremely frustrating experience with the parking system at this location. The signage suggests that parking is free for visits under one hour, as it only mentions a £10.00 charge for stays of 1-2 hours. There is no clear indication that payment is required for stays under one hour, which misleads visitors into assuming brief visits (like mine, under 20 minutes) are free.

To avoid any issues, I checked the associated parking app, but it only provided payment options starting at a minimum of two hours. This directly contradicts the signage and leaves no way to pay for a shorter stay, adding to the confusion.

Additionally, the car park layout forces drivers to fully enter the premises with no safe way to turn around. Once inside, you are effectively trapped into using the car park, as reversing onto the main road would be dangerous. Penalising visitors under these circumstances feels unfair.

I was only there for a brief visit to use the public toilets and was shocked to receive a charge for such a short stay. Given the unclear signage, lack of payment options for short visits, and the impractical car park design, this feels like an intentional setup to catch people out.

I strongly advise others to be cautious when parking here. The system is misleading, and you may end up with an unfair charge.

Dinner booked for 1930pm

Dinner booked for 1930pm. We had to peruse staff at 2030pm.Main course served at 2100pm and the dessert did not appear until 10pm after we had again looked for staff.
There was a wedding party in the hotel and they clearly did not have enough staff and communication was non existent.
The food was good but the evening was spoiled by the bad service and lack of management.
Not the fault of the young staff.

Issues with Parking

Issues with Parking - got a fine even though I registered my car. Have emailed hotel ( no response) and written old fashioned paper letter ( no response either!)
Have disputed fine with parking company ( based in London!) and annulled the fine only to get a reminder a month later saying I had not paid... and so it goes on !

Spectacular views but not luxury

We’ve passed by often on our trips around Glencoe and always wanted to stay thinking as it was one of the more expensive hotels in the area, it would be a special treat.
The location is wonderful and the views undoubtedly spectacular but the hotel itself didn’t live up to expectations.
The first issue was on arrival. There is a car park but there is no dedicated drop off point at the hotel entrance to unload and load luggage. The car park is about 30 yards or more from the entrance, ok if you only have a small bag but not convenient if you have several items of luggage and large suitcases to wheel. The closest is a couple of disabled parking spaces across the road from the entrance but that still involves navigating the path and gravel. Goodness knows how anyone in a wheelchair would manage. It’s not as if it’s on a busy city centre main street, if they removed the bollards at the front of the hotel there would be ample space for dropping off and picking up.
The staff are friendly and helpful and we were offered a trolley to load our luggage but that was more bother than it was worth as it just barely fitted into the only two-person lift.
We chose a signature room that was modern and spacious and the views from the private balcony were spectacular but the room design was just lacking. Yes, there was an extra large king bed (2 singles together) and a seating area with two sofas and a sofa bed but no dedicated dressing table for doing hair and makeup. I had to move the kettle, mugs and tea provisions from the only table with enough space next to a mirror and sockets. Even then it wasn’t ideal as it was below the TV with the mirror adjacent. The TV itself is not a Smart TV and has limited channels and the only sofa facing it was at the back of the room, impossible to watch either from there or the bed. We had to move one of the other sofas so we could watch it. There is one bedside table, the other end has a high shelf on the wall. The layout just hasn’t been well thought out. The description boasts fluffy robes and slippers. There were robes but certainly not fluffy, neither were the towels and the bathroom, although adequate was tiny with only a shower above the bath that you had to clamber into. Not even a rain-head shower, only a single spray that wasn’t very powerful. Housekeeping was ok but we had to ask for spare toilet roll. Food was disappointing. Nothing special for breakfast. We ate dinner on the first night and it was not value for money. We did complain about the tough lamb and hard fondant potatoes and veg and our complaints were taken on board but we decided to eat elsewhere for the rest of our stay. In all I would say it is a “posh” bunkhouse rather than a luxury hotel.

Just stopped in for lunch

Just stopped in for lunch, at first it looked like it was going to be the perfect stop after a walk in the area, lovely setting and hotel but the food was below par. I ordered the steak ciabatta, the bread was so hard it was impossible to eat and tore the skin on the roof of my mouth, I told the waiter but didn’t get an apology or even a response and it remained on the bill at full price. Wouldn’t return.

A bland experience

My husband and I recently visited the Climbers Bar and were quite disappointed with our experience. While the staff seemed very reserved and barely interacted with us, we noticed they were much more attentive to another table, frequently checking up on them and engaging in lengthy conversations.

We ordered the steak ciabatta sandwich, which unfortunately turned out to be the most bland dish. The steak was severely overcooked and lacked any seasoning, while the mustard mayo was completely tasteless. Overall, the food and service did not live up to expectations.

The mountain view from our table was amazing.
