Think carefully before instructing this firm if you need dependable delivery and transparent costs. KJ Smith failed to produce the documents we had specifically agreed and that I had asked them to prioritise ahead of my hearing. They charged for preparing their own disclaimer without ever telling me in advance that this would be a cost, billed for advice that had already been given during the free initial consultation, and exceeded the agreed budget without any warning at the time — even though they had confirmed in writing that I would be told first, and even though their own terms of business commit them to providing a written cost estimate before a hearing.

The single most important of the agreed and instructed documents was never delivered at all, being critical for the upcoming hearing. The remaining two arrived as unfinished drafts requiring substantial further work from me, with no time left before the hearing to do it.

When I raised a complaint, the supervising partner's reply contained remarks criticising the condition of my case and the legal advice I had previously received. The final complaint response from KJ Smith as a whole was all about defending the firm at any cost rather than answering the complaint or engaging with clear, specific failures on their side. Addressing the comment from the firm below, it is further confusing what is being investigated when the firm has already sent a final response to the formal complaint.

I only wish I had reached out to K J Smith Solicitors sooner.
