Slightly bitter-sweet experience...

I was booked for a 'test shoot' after being accepted as a potential candidate for mature modelling work based on an image submitted via a Facebook ad. I paid a £29 booking fee and attended for my test shoot - to assess whether I had confidence in front of the camera and 'potential' (as I have never done anything like this before).

The test shoot was fun and all the staff were really kind and professional. I was there for about 3.5 hours in total. I definitely had a good experience of what a professional photo shoot is like - having never done one before. I was photographed in 3 outfits and the photographer put me at ease and was very professional.

I then received feedback and went through the images with the 'sales-person'. This is where it got a bit difficult for me. I received amazing feedback that I had great potential and the pictures were very impressive (though digitally enhanced). I was then presented with a menu of purchase options to move forward ranging from £600 - £5000 to either purchase a small number of images - right through to the full set - portfolio with regular support from the 'Coordinator' follow up shoots and various options in-between. I had 2 issues here:
1 - I think this should have been explained right at the start before booking a shoot - it felt a little deceptive to withhold this information until after the shoot.
2 - It was explained that I would need to purchase the images, or one of the packages there and then, (or on a credit scheme) otherwise they would be deleted and lost (due to confidentiality and data protection). Though I was told I could come back and do another shoot if I wanted to go away and think about it - which is what I did. Again - this felt a bit pressured and it was hard not to conclude it could all just be an elaborate sales tactic...It also made me question how objective / useful was the feedback if it's motivated by a lucrative sale.

I would definitely recommend going to MSOM for a professional shoot if you want some excellent professional images taking for marketing, social media or a portfolio - if the pricing / packages are known in advance. But as a 'test shoot' for an aspiring model it is hard not to feel a bit deceived. Don't get me wrong - it could be worth it - if it leads into a successful career. But I am doing a bit more research into the industry and these types of companies before committing to any significant financial outlay.

Amazing really nice people and really helpful such a good atmosphere and make you feel really comfortable if your nervous 100% would definitely recommend

The staff were so welcome and made me feel confident. The photos were soo lovely and the experience was exciting, being able to put my own music on the speaker to hype myself up. The makeup artist was lovely, but didn’t do makeup that I would say accentuated my features but I still think the photos turned out amazing. I can’t wait to come back and work with you all again.

They have done a great favour, I love there photos and it was amazing just a piece of art, I will recommend everyone to pick them as as your portfolio makers

Lovely friendly staff, makeup done with a great member of staff, studio space is great lots of different lighting techniques and friendly supportive camera lady!

I had an amazing experience during my photoshoot. It was a great opportunity to explore my confidence, creativity, and passion for modelling. The entire process was professional, enjoyable, and inspiring. I truly appreciate the support, guidance, and effort that helped make this experience memorable. Looking forward to more opportunities and new experiences in the future.

The team of staff are fantastic and really easy to have a laugh with while you are there which helps with the nerves, I had such a great time and was extremely happy with the whole event by the end I didn't want to leave haha, such amazing people, I would come back anytime

THIS SHOULD BE DISCUS EVEN BEFORE THE PHOTOSHOOT, SO ONE CAN MAKE INFORM CHOICE TO GO AHEAD OR NOT!!! NOT AFTER COLLECTING £250.00

THEN THEY COLLECTED ANOTHER £250.00 FROM MY BANK -WHICH I DID NOT AGREE TO!!!

What a shock and they tell YOU CANNOT CANCELL BECAUSE YOUVE SIGNED IT.

All the pros and cons SHOULD BE discussed BEFORE the photoshoots PERIOD!!! £3000 just to attend modeling school once a month or something.

HOW MANY VULNERABLE PEOPLE HAVE THEY DONE THIS TO THEM!!!

I do understand the industry quite well Im hated on even for the way I look but modelling being a content creator a Salford computer science student the way the photographer stylist curated their performance tailored to how they did according to me was very professional it was nice ya know I'm gonna rule the modelling industry it's mine to take

On arriving she was leery with a lovely friendly face and so far she’s having f a great time waiting to start her shoot

I came to Manchester school of Modelling three weeks ago. I was nervous at first but the staff are really friendly and put me at ease. I had a full makeover with hair and makeup, and photoshoot. It really built my confidence and I have been signed by three agencies.

I had a shoot at Manchester school of modelling in Leeds studio last week, I have never done anything like this & it’s completely out of my comfort zone. I’m a guy, & in to the gym & fitness. & never considered anything like this but after my partner went & did a shoot their & I saw her results I thoughts why not give it a go, I was nervous as I don’t hear of many men doing this type of thing. But I got to the studio, I was welcomed by a friendly, professional team. I filled in a consultation form & then headed over to hair & make up, I have never worn make up before so was worried but the just put abit on for the camera to smooth my skin & cover blemishes & styled my hair, the photographer was great told me how to pose & stand, & was really helpful, I then had a short wait before viewing my images. I ended up getting them all because they were so good! & I have to say when viewing them they clearly explained everything to me. From the process of booking to on the day which reassured me that I was all genuine. & also through out explained about how Manchester school of modelling works that it not an agent it’s a test shoot & helps to build your portfolio & gives you the confidence & contacts.
So my full experience was positive I would recommend to any other people wanting to get in to modelling but not sure what direction to take I think this is a great starting point.
