Most inept customer service ever. Stay away!

Sadly I agree with everything above. I placed an order for a keyboard, keycaps, and switches. At the time of checkout everything was in stock. Immediately after checkout the switches showed out of stock. I emailed support and asked if I can simply change switches, I was willing to pay more for the more expensive switches. That request was denied and they said the entire order would ship in a day. The order did ship, and it was short 20 switches. The packing slip clearly shows I ordered all the switches 7-10 packs. They shipped 5-10 packs. They came in a plastic sandwich bag btw. For some reason they lack the ability to simply look at their own tracking system. I sent them a picture if the empty plastic bag since that can't seem to understand there is no barcode. I have now sent them 2 pictures of the packing slip. 1 picture shows the packing slip. They didn't seem to understand their own slip, so I drew big red arrows show qty ordered 7 qty shipped 5. I have been going back and forth for a week now. At this point I'm going to have to call my credit card company and stop payment. The funny thing is, I run a 75 person IT company and was trying this stuff out as a possible standard for my employees. They just lost literally thousands of dollars to save less than 50 bucks. Well done! I should have looked up some review sites before ordering. After some googling I have found they are notorious for this.

Broken Keyboard, Refused Refund

I bought a Ducky One 3. It took a month to arrive. I expected this. No problem here.

I get the keyboard and the shipping box is obviously damaged. Open up the box and the keyboard box is also damaged.

The keyboard itself was also damaged - one of the side pieces broke off and makes a clicking sound every time you touch the right side of the keyboard. Mechanical Keyboards said - no joke - that the keyboard being broken and making a clacking sound was a "feature" of the keyboard. It's not. The other side doesn't do this. They refused to refund or waive any fees.

Dealing with customer service to try to get this resolved was literally impossible. They blamed me at every turn. I will never do business with them again.

I can confirm that the sides of the new Ducky One 3 keyboards are manufactured in a different way than the previous models. The new models have clipped in side pieces that would have a slight wobble when moved, similar to keycaps. Just terrible

Bought a new mechanical keyboard, custom cable, and some keycaps.

Love my new Ducky One III, and my rubberized Ducky keycaps!

The custom cable. I got to choose the color of everything including a choice between two different GX connectors in an array of colors.

You're probably thinking, "Why is this a 1 star review?"

Certain items over a certain dollar amount have a drop down menu before you add it to the cart, where you can choose 1 of a few different options. Little free things to go with what you bought. Nice touch! For both my keyboard and my custom cable I chose "2-3 random keycaps". This was my first Mech, so I was super excited for random keycaps!

It took a long time to get my order, but through no fault of MechanicalKeyboards, as I chose Silent Cherry MX switches, which they very visibly display, has longer shipping times because they don't keep those switches in stock.

Because of the way it was displayed on their site, it seemed like they just don't carry those switches, but they have keyboards, So I'm thinking (since they offer the option of split shipping), that I could have them send me everything they DO have. I was planning on diving pretty hard into mechs, so I already had a box of 110 Silent Cherry switches. So When I asked them to send me what they have, and even explained WHY I wanted them to send me what they had, instead of informing me that they don't have the keyboard (because it arrives with the switches pre-installed, which I was unaware of), they sent me my rubberized caps and custom cable. I emailed them back, confused, and they then told me how things actually were. Annoying, but whatever. I also sent them a confirmation on what I have received and was still waiting on.

I FINALLY get my keyboard. I put my keycaps on, plug it in with my custom cable, and start setting my RGB. Once I was done playing, I emailed them to tell them I received my keyboard, but no free keycaps.

They responded with a short message, something along the lines of, "Sorry for the inconvenience, we credited your account $2."

This is probably the most disrespectful thing I have ever encountered as an online consumer. This would be like if you went to a restaurant. You get there, sit down, and the waiter comes by and tells you the dinner specials. You decide you want one of the specials and put in your order. The waiter comes around in a bit with food, but doesn't bring you what he offered, and you asked for, instead of doing any number of acceptable things to try and rectify the situation, he instead pulls out his wallet, throws some money in your face and says, "I forgot."

Then less than a week later my custom $65 cable died. Upon further inspection, the heatshrink coated wire that was going into one side of the GX connector wasn't even close to being clamped down by the connector, to the wires were just freely spinning around inside the connector until it came loose. I then had to pay about $15 in shipping, to ship it back to them for repair. I followed all their instructions to a T, and I still didn't get a confirmation that they received it until I asked for one. Which I got about 5 days after they received it.

Conclusion:
This company has the ability to put a box containing goods, inside another box, put a shipping label on it and ship it. That's about it. Don't expect good customer service, don't expect anything. Expect to get quality goods made by someone else, and sold by them, or better yet, go elsewhere.

Satisfied overall-- will order again

I'm happy with my order. The only thing I'm SLIGHTLY not happy with was that I wish they'd shipped slightly faster. I ordered on a Tuesday, and the items didn't ship until Thursday. That's fine for the stuff shipping from the same state as me (one of their warehouses is about 45 minutes away from me), but I paid for 2-day UPS shipping. That 2-day UPS turned into 4 days total, as UPS doesn't deliver 2-day deliveries on weekends. So what could have been a fun weekend project got delayed.

I'm only taking off one star because part of it was UPS, but if they'd shipped even a day earlier, I would have had everything over the weekend and been able to put it all together with the free time I had available. I'm not going to lie, that was a bit of a bummer. I had to rush last night to finish it, so I didn't really get to enjoy the somewhat Zen activity of installing switches and keycaps at a leisurely pace with a nice beverage. Ultimately, though-- it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things; it was just a minor inconvenience.

...But the products themselves? Everything is exactly as ordered. I had a question about my order. and the staff member I spoke to on the phone was both friendly and helpful.

I'm about addicted to the mechanical keyboard hobby. I absolutely will order from them again (and will do so very soon). I think I need to make sure my expectations are set appropriately with regards to shipping times, though: I'm not going to try to set my weekend plans around my order!

If I may say, though, as an aside? Yes, their return policies do seem a bit strict. They're very clear on their pre-order policies, and how they can't really quote that accurate of a time for things to come back in stock. I personally think they did a great job with their messaging. My only issue is that if I order again, and it doesn't ship in 24 hours, I'd suggest them removing verbiage from their site that says "most orders ship within 24 hours".

Mechanicalkeyboards.com sells some great stuff. I think the only thing they need to work on, from my perspective, is faster order fulfillment. In the meantime, I'm happy with adjusting my expectations.

Edit: just wanted to add another point towards why I will be ordering from them again: look how quickly someone responded to this review, and really, all the others. They're a small business, they're trying, and they want to do better. I hope everybody else keeps this in mind before trashing them over something already documented.

Worst online shop ever

Worst online shop ever. I ordered keyboards key caps a year ago and still waiting. I'va wrote a couple of emails in the first 2-3 months and every time the ETA was delayed to the next month. So here we are, over a year and still didnt have receive my order yet.

DO NOT BUY from mechanical keyboards.

They answered me below to say that I can ask a full refund BUT when I did, they told me they cant because the payment processor will not allow them to refund the transaction.

Should have read the return policy before hand because Jesus, it seems as if they want the product to be newer than it came before. I hate companies (in which I've only come across three this being the third) that make it a hassle to return items, literally the biggest turn off. didn't even start the return process because you can already tell it's gonna be a horrible experience. would rather just take a loss and never have to deal with companies like this.

Terrible return policy, 9% restocking fee and buyer pays for shipping back. This is essentially half my keycap set's value for keycap sets that didn't do as advertise.

Order Elsewhere

I placed an order a week ago with them and they accepted the money, but did not ship for approximately 3 to 4 days. I call in to customer support and actually got someone quickly and they were courteous and promised to ensure it got shipped that day (which it did) and to refund the amount I paid for expedited shipping (which they did). This act was the only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because of the customer service I received there.

In terms of actually receiving my items...well I got half of them. They split the items (a total of 4 items mind you) into two shipments: 1 with ups 2 day shipping (I originally paid for 3 day shipping) and another through USPS (some sort of non priority shipping, standard). I received the UPS package (box containing keycaps was beat up but no damaged product) but I'm still waiting to receive the other half and it's been delayed by USPS. Not sure if I know of another company that splits your order into two separate shipping speed classes when you paid for expedited shipping, and one of those is slower than what you paid for on top of just not shipping the item for 3 days after receiving payment already. Stay far away. This is my first, and will be the last order I make with this company.

Poor Service, nice keyboards

I've ordered several keyboards from mechanicalkeyboards.com, $1000+ over a couple of years.

The last keyboard I purchased was used - like new. It was the incorrect model (not RGB) and there was no option to add random keycaps to the order. Maybe it was because the model was used, but what a cheap move for such nice keyboards. I reached out shortly after my order to request random key caps, and was told it was not possible.

The cable connection on the used - like new keyboard is so sensitive that moving it around my desk causes it to lose function. How used was it?

It's unfortunate.

Edit: I'll shop elsewhere instead.

Amount paid for product: $140.30
This business committed to providing me with a high quality keyboard. Firstly, it took 8 months for them to send me the keyboard that I ordered. I was ok with this, as long as I would eventually receive the product. I finally received an e-mail on 01/04/2022 with tracking information saying that it would arrive 01/11/2022. On 01/11/2022, I searched for the package around my building but did not find it. For the next couple of days, I kept a look out for the package. On 01/14/2022, on my way out through the outside gate, I found the package OUTSIDE next to the gate (which connects directly to the street) soaking in the rain and already opened. The contents were completely missing. I attempted to contact MechanicalKeyboards.com and they were ABSOLUTELY NOT helpful at all. I attempted to contact UPS and they told me that because the sender used UPS SurePost, that ONLY THE SENDER could file an investigation. I attempted to contact MechanicalKeyboards.com and let them know that I needed them to help me, and the guy I spoke to was incredibly rude and unhelpful. He said his name was Erin or Aaron (although I'm sure that was a lie) and I asked to speak to his manager. He told me that HE WAS the manager (probably another lie).
I am out $140 and have not received anything for my troubles AND have not been helped in a satisfactory way by anyone at all at MechanicalKeyboards.com.

Because they have used UPS SurePost, the onus is completely on the sender to open an investigation on the missing package and make sure I am provided with the compensation I am owed on this incident. MechanicalKeyboards.com not only was extremely rude and unhelpful, they have done absolutely nothing about this. At the time of this post, they still have not opened up an investigation or even shown to give a single care about me not getting my keyboard.

Do not trust this horrible excuse for a company. Save your money and time, and buy a Logitech keyboard from Amazon.

What you seem to fail to understand here is that UPS SurePost left the box in a CLEARLY insecure location. It was left OUTSIDE next to the front gate where it clearly could have easily been stolen (which it was). It is your job to seek a solution and compensation FOR ME since I CANNOT. This is negligence and you SHOULD BE CONCERNED about it.

Careful Ordering

I placed an order on an "in stock" item August 2020, order arrives today (Jan 2022) to my old address (my bad, but hard to remember something I ordered about a year and a half ago). The current resident puts in a return request without my knowledge. Now I'm expected to pay mechanicalkeyboards.com $9 in restocking fees and $12 for a shipping label I didn't request. So out of this I lose $21 and no keycaps, great experience from everyone involved.

pre order item.. just dont buy ....

dont buy from this place especially pre-ordered items
ordered keyboard on blackfriday and w/o any updates ETA is keep pushing back and i still didnt get my keyboard.
when what they gonna tell you is
oh sorry pre order item is something that we can not control ....
do they even know what ETA is?
to me thats not something they can just change for themselves
if they are not keeping their promises why do business with them.

Very frustrating company to deal with

Very frustrating company to deal with. Charged my credit card even before the item has been shipped for a pre-order that kept getting pushed back time and time again for months. When asked about the delay, they gave no specific reason nor did they put in the effort to find out why. The restock date estimates for pre-orders are a joke. Had I known it kept delaying not once, not twice, but 6 or 7 times and counting, I never would have ordered.

When they wouldn't let me exchange my pre-order for a different color of the same keyboard that was in stock, I had to cancel the order. Upon cancelling order, I was refunded a deficit of 7 dollars CAD, even though the exchange rate had moved in my favor (conversion fees perhaps?).

Never shopping here again. Avoid this company, especially if you're an international buyer and the product you're buying is a pre-order.

Horrible customer service

Horrible customer service. Placed an order, they charged my card and then nothing for 18 days. I call and they say “oh, someone just bought the last one before you, but we could give you a different color” - but they wouldn't pay for overnight shipping to make sure it arrived in time for my sons birthday, even though their system screw-up caused this. I do not recommend these rude people at all.

Hopefully you get a working item

Pray that if you order from them, you don't get a broken item. If you do, you get the pleasure of paying more money to ship their defective merchandise back to them and then wait a month for them to fix it. Judging by the other replies, they'll point to their "warranty" service process buried in their FAQ. Scummy way to do business. Lesson learned to stick with a more reputable retailer next time.

Lightspeed Shipping and Excellent Customer Support

I purchased a keyboard and deskmat from Varmilo and was very impressed when it arrived less than 24 hours later. This was even more impressive because I live outside of the US and was quote 3-7 business days. Packaging was ample and products looked even better in person.

I did have an issue with the deskmat as it had a small flaw. Amanda from customer support was understanding and offered a partial refund considering the flaw, which I accepted. Overall very happy with my purchase!

worthless company

This company is trash. The keyboards sold to me have all kinds of issues. Their employees are very incompetent, dishonest and rude. Their return policy is absurd. This is the worst company I've dealt with. In addition, 44% of reviews think they are bad, which explains pretty much.

Unfortunately, we do not offer partial refunds for defective items. We always have defective, or potentially defective items sent back so that our technicians can thoroughly examine the issue and report the information back to the manufacturer.

SOME MAJOR ISSUES BUT OVERALL SATISFIED

FANTASTIC PRODUCTS

The keyboards are in perfect condition, and the switches are music to my ears! My setup is beautiful now (Sea Melody keyboard and desk mat), and everything was easy to set up and use.

I purchased a Varmilo Sea Melody Keyboard with LED backlighting (MA108M, Varmilo Daisy switches), an XL Varmilo Sea Melody desk mat, a Varmilo Beijing Opera Keyboard (VA108M, originally MX Blue switches, then switched to MX Brown), and a Leopold FC750R PD Keyboard (MX Silent Red switches).

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION

Amanda D was extremely helpful when my order ran into stocking issues. They communicated efficiently, and explained politely the reasons why my order was delayed. Emails were replied to within 24 hours, and were not dismissive, rather, were explanatory and expressed empathy. Amanda D's patience and professionalism deserves a raise or a promotion! Thank you, Amanda!

EFFICIENT SHIPPING

It took less than three days for my parcel to arrived at my home in Australia from the US. Very securely packaged, and boxes (and products) were in perfect condition upon arrival.

VERY POOR PRE-ORDER SYSTEM

I highly suggest ONLY purchasing products that are labelled as "IN STOCK". Pre-order estimate dates will keep shifting to later and later dates, so you could be waiting indefinitely (I waited two months, and then I switched out a product). Unless you don't mind waiting an abysmal amount of time for your product, I suggest not purchasing any items labelled "PRE-ORDER ONLY".

UNFAIR SYSTEM RELATING TO MULTIPLE ITEMS IN ONE ORDER

I purchased four items in my order, one of which was a pre-order item. I then found out that while waiting for that pre-order item, the company will sell the other products in your order to other customers, even though you paid full price for it first. This means that if another one of your items goes out of stock, you'll have to wait for that too. You have to wait for ALL your items to simultaneously be in stock for your order to be shipped out, which is ridiculous considering they do not hold in-stock items for you. Under this system, you could be waiting indefinitely - unless you split your order. I could not do this as I live in Australia, so my shipping cost would have skyrocketed. I ended up changing the switches of my pre-order item to a switch choice that was in-stock. My order shipped out the next business day.

SHIFTY RETURN POLICY/TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This information should be included in the checkout page, rather than the FAQs! This would allow customers to have a fair opportunity of reading the policies themselves.

OVERALL RATING

Since I'm purchasing the product, rather than the company policy, my overall rating is 4/5 stars. I definitely would purchase again, but only products that are in stock - I've learnt my lesson. The high rating is mainly because of Amanda's consistent professional communication with me, which made me feel respected as a customer, unlike the company policy. Additionally, the rating is also due to the high quality of the products themselves.
