Shoddy Product, Bad Communication

Bought an item that said it would arrive within three days. Arrived nearly six days later (date changed AFTER money was taken) and despite paying more, for extras, they weren't included and the main feature of the gift set was smashed to bits!

Won't be using again.

Left Paying $19 Shipping for a Damaged Item Due to Their Poor Packaging

The company's latest response repeats their position without addressing the fundamental flaw in their logic.

They state a "full refund" was given for the item ($6.99), which I have acknowledged. However, a "full refund" of an order is not the same as a refund of only the item's base price. The $19 shipping fee, which I paid as part of the total $25.99, remains with them. Therefore, the financial outcome is clear: I have paid $19 for a shipping service that resulted in a damaged product due to their choice of packaging.

Their defense rests on two points, both of which avoid accountability:

1. Hiding Behind Policy: They invoke "standard retail practice" to keep the shipping fee because the item was "delivered." This policy is presented as neutral, but its application here is not. It automatically protects them from the financial consequence of their own operational decision - using packaging that was insufficient for the product. A fair policy would account for seller-caused damage.

2. Deflecting with Volume: Citing "over 100k satisfied customers" and "established methods" does not change the objective fact of my individual experience: a fragile item was placed in an unpadded bag, and it arrived broken. Their statistics do not rectify the failure, nor do they refund my $19.

Their final paragraph defines their standard of "fairness": it is "unreasonable" to them for a customer to receive a functional item without paying, but it is "reasonable" for a customer to pay $19 to receive a damaged one caused by their methods. This is a business prioritizing policy protection over principled accountability for its own role in the problem.

This concludes the matter. The sequence of communication serves as a clear case study for potential customers: if your item is damaged due to MoreThisWay's packaging choices, you will bear the loss of the shipping costs. Their policies are designed to ensure this.

UPDATE (18 December 2025): After this review was posted, the company finally confirmed the refund for the item price ($6.99). However, they refused to refund the $19.00 shipping fee, arguing that the "service was completed" despite the item arriving damaged due to their own inadequate packaging. This final response solidifies my experience: they take no real responsibility for fulfillment failures, and the customer ultimately bears the cost of their poor standards. I strongly advise against ordering anything fragile from this seller.

I ordered a Blu-ray from MoreThisWay which arrived with a severely cracked case. The initial customer service response was prompt and polite, offering a full refund for the damaged item, which I appreciated and accepted.

However, the core of the problem was not addressed. The item was shipped in a simple, unpadded postal bag - completely inadequate protection for fragile media cases. This poor packaging was almost certainly the cause of the damage, and I suggested they review their standards to prevent this for future customers. Despite this feedback in my reply, there has been no acknowledgment of this systemic issue.

Furthermore, after accepting the refund offer via email, I received no subsequent confirmation or timeline for the payment. I had to send a follow-up reminder to get any information, which reflects a lack of proactive communication and closure.

What the company could do better:

1. Revise packaging standards for fragile items. Using proper padding is a basic requirement for any retailer.

2. Improve internal processes to ensure damage is caught before dispatch.

3. Enhance communication by providing clear, actionable confirmations and timelines after a resolution is agreed upon.

While they did offer a refund, the overall experience was marred by the preventable cause of the damage and the need to chase for basic updates. I cannot recommend them for collectible or fragile physical media unless they demonstrably improve their packaging and final-stage communication.

At no point have we misrepresented what was refunded. We refunded the FULL cost of the item itself to account for the damaged case, despite the disc arriving intact, usable, and retained by you. That refund was issued in good faith to resolve the product issue.

What we have not agreed to is refunding the shipping fee. Shipping covers the service of dispatch and delivery, which was completed. Once an item has been delivered and kept, shipping costs are not refundable. This is standard retail practice and is not unique to our business.

Regarding packaging: our packaging methods are established, widely used, and have successfully delivered a high volume of similar items to over 100k satisfied customers.

We also want to clarify that we have never suggested you were “happy” with the situation. We acknowledged your concern, investigated it, and issued a refund for the item to resolve the matter. What we cannot do is provide a full refund of all costs while the item is kept and functional, as this would be unreasonable and inconsistent with fair retail standards.

We take customer care seriously and always aim to resolve issues professionally and fairly. However, we must also apply consistent policies and cannot provide outcomes that go beyond reasonable resolution.

We did take responsibility for the damaged Blu-ray case by issuing a FULL REFUND for the item itself, despite the disc arriving intact, fully playable, and usable and yourself being otherwise happy with the service. This was done to ensure you were not disadvantaged by the cosmetic damage to the outer case.

The shipping charge was not refunded because the delivery service was completed successfully. The order was dispatched, transported, and delivered correctly, and the working item remains in your possession - you explained at the time that you did not want to return the item an would prefer to keep it. Shipping fees cover the service of delivery, and it is not standard retail practice to refund these once an item has been delivered and retained, particularly where the issue has already been addressed and rectified with a full refund on the item.

We appreciate feedback regarding packaging and always review customer comments carefully. Our packaging methods are used successfully across a high volume of orders, and while we take care when packing, damage (although rare) can occasionally occur during transit due to carrier handling. When this happens, we consistently work with customers to resolve issues fairly, as we did in this case.

We take customer care seriously and aim to be responsive, fair, and helpful at all times. While we are always here to assist, we also apply consistent standards to ensure fair outcomes.
