My experience of MySense

I live on my own and have done for some time now. I manage perfectly well and I'm keen to stay independent, but as you get older you have the odd worry. My only family is my son and he lived in Canada, so a long way away. I used to think, if I didn't get up one morning or had a fall, nobody would really know. That's why I decided to try MySense.
What I like is that it's very discreet. It doesn't interfere with my day of make me feel watched. I just go about my normal routine. A couple of local friends have the app and can see that I'm up and moving about, which reassures them, and me too. It's a comfort to know someone would notice if something was wrong.
I still feel completely independent, just with a bit of extra peace of mind in the background. For someone in my situation, especially with family so far away, that means a great deal.

The MySense team have been amazing…

The MySense team have been amazing support for both myself and my mother through a really difficult time and a number of life changing events. The peace of mind I get from knowing they are there to support us is invaluable. The sensors help to show if there are any changes to my mothers movements and the team are on the case immediately if there is an issue.

Issues to be resolved

Set up by Ed from Cambridgeshire Council for a trial period to evaluate how useful this would be in monitoring a family member living alone. Initially this was working 'ok', capturing doors opening and closing but the other areas not so well (under mattress and under a chair). I had several calls from Ed to say that he had not received any notifications although I had. So I subsequently received new login info as apparently I was accessing someone else's data as not set up correctly. Since then (~2 weeks) all notifications have ceased. I have spoken to Ed today who says it is not plugged in at my family member's address, although the carers also have double checked this. I am to go over this weekend to check for myself but am disappointed that this system, with so much potential, hasn't met expectations. At a cost of ~£25 per month I would need the assurance that the issues are resolvable before committing to MySense long term. The rating I have given is based on the period prior to receiving a new login, to be fair.

Carers useful helper…

It was extremely useful to keep track of the movements of the person concerned. It enabled us to see how much time he spent in bed as he tended to sleep in a chair instead. It was also useful to let us know if he was in or out of the house. I would recommend it for this alone.
