NC Quick Pass Review

NC Quick Pass Review – Extremely Frustrating & Unfair Experience

I am honestly still in shock at how NC Quick Pass handled my situation. It feels like the system protects criminals instead of victims.

Here is what happened:

I owned a vehicle that was no longer in my possession and was located elsewhere. Unknown to me, that vehicle was somehow sold to Pull-A-Part. At the time, the tag associated with that vehicle had already expired.

Later, I received a bill from NC Quick Pass for nearly $800 in toll charges. When I reviewed the charges online, I immediately noticed something alarming—the vehicle shown in the toll images was a Chevrolet, which is NOT the car I own.

This clearly means someone else was using my tag.

While this person continued to illegally use my tag in the toll lanes, they racked up over $1,400 in charges. I followed the proper steps:

Contacted the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles
Reported the tag as stolen
Filed two police reports (one for the vehicle location and one for tag recovery)

Despite providing all of this documentation, NC Quick Pass responded that:

Because the tag was not reported stolen until 03/09/2026,
I am still responsible for tolls going back to 01/21/2026

They only waived a small portion ($161.40) after the report date and a $6 fee—but still expect me to pay $1,217.30.

Let me be clear:

The tag was stolen
The vehicle in the photos is NOT mine
Someone else committed the violation
And they even have identifying information for the person responsible

Yet somehow, I am the one being held financially responsible.

This is not just frustrating—it’s unjust.

It does not matter that the tag was stolen.
It does not matter that the car in the images is wrong.
Apparently, all that matters is billing the person tied to the plate.

How does this make sense?

This experience has shown me that NC Quick Pass policies need serious review. Victims of tag theft should not be treated like the offenders.

I went into the NC quick pass office on Tuesday. As I entered the building, a gentleman welcomed me before I got 3 steps in the door with the great smile and an awesome personality as I approached him at the window. He stayed, his name was Thomas thomas was amazing. He made the experience worth the while he helped me with every question. I had and every concern. Thomas is a great associate that will go above and beyond to take care of any knees you have way to go,Thomas

Just don’t

Three times this year I have been told my account is reactivated after their screwup and now they canceled again. I’m done. NC is a joke with the worst customer service, ever.

They me for a toll I incurred but

They billed me for a toll I incurred *and* for 2 tolls I did not. They didn’t send me a mailing until the total bill was $66.00 plus, and turned down my appeal for what I don’t owe. If I can’t trust their “mail the bill” system, there’s no reason to sign onto their transponder system. I’ll avoid NC toll roads from now on.

Fraudulent practice

About six months ago, I bought an NC Quick Pass to receive a 50% discount on I-77 travel. According to their website, which I didn’t understand clearly because there is no explanation of how the pass would work, I had to make a $10 deposit. Several weeks later, I received an email stating that the company had increased my deposit to $20, and I didn’t think much of it. Two months later, I received an invoice for $111, which I disputed through a formal letter. I never received a response to my letter, but on May 6, 2025, I received another invoice # 35443622097 for $254.80, and no mention of my previous appeal. I called the center, and someone informed me that my pass had been canceled and my 50% discount was not honored. The reason given was that I didn’t have a deposit on my NC Quick Pass to cover any “future” trips on I-77. The company never notified me that I had to make such a deposit, and if they raised my initial $10 deposit to $20, why didn’t they do the same this time? I want the company to honor my NC Quick Pass, restore it, and provide me with the 50% discount that I deserve since this is an oversight on their part. I am 66 years old and have to travel once or twice a month to Davidson, NC, for medical reasons. I am on a fixed budget and can’t afford to pay this astronomical amount. This looks like a fraudulent way of doing business.

Fraud with quickpass

Do not under any circumstances sign up for a transponder with this agency. It is voluntary extortion and you are much better off paying by mail for any fees. I had disabled my transponder before selling my vehicle and they continued to bill me for charges not even in North Carolina. When I appealed, I was told there is no way to prove who went through toll and I must not have deactivated the account correctly. So glad I no longer live in this pathetic corrupt state with incompetent leadership at every level. Do better NC! You’ve been warned!
