We bought a car from New Automotive for my son’s first car, reassured at the time of purchase that the wet belt had just been changed. Within only a few months, the catalytic converter failed and had to be replaced. Soon after, we faced water leaking into the engine.

Just 18 months after purchase—and with very few miles driven—the wet belt failed. When we spoke to Matt, we were told nothing could be done as the replacement of the wet belt was out of warranty. His “solution” was either to repair it for £1,500 or buy the car back from us for £2,000. This was shocking considering we had paid £6,200 for the car only 18 months earlier.

We did not want them to fix it, as we had no confidence it would be done properly given all the other problems we had already faced. We eventually had the car repaired by our own mechanic at a cost of £2,000. At that point, we were advised there was absolutely no way the wet belt had ever been changed, despite being told otherwise at the time of sale. In other words, we were lied to.

Since buying this car, we have done nothing but spend money on repairs. The promises made at the time of purchase were false, and the car was clearly misrepresented.

Please think very carefully before buying from this dealer, and be extremely cautious about believing what you are told.

To add in response to your reply on google reviews, the car has been serviced since buying from yourselves. The car had done less than 5000 miles in 18 months, not substantial miles as you have stated in your reply.
Yes you offered to get the car fixed for £1500 but then changed your mind. The wet belt on this vehicle had never been changed and you sold my son this car knowing that. You clearly have “no conscience".

It seems like we are not the only people who have experienced this same problem. See review below dated February 2025.

I purchased a Ford Fiesta EcoBoost from Matt at New Automotive in April 2023, assured the wet belt had been replaced. Turns out, it hadn’t—confirmed by an independent mechanic after a major failure.

I wonder how many more people you have done this to.

Bought car off Matt a year ago ,cars been great but due to daughter being at university we had to sell, the car just sitting . Matt purchased the car back it’s been a great experience again dealing with Matt .

Recently purchased Mercedes from Matt, second choice as my first choice had some teething issues. Delivery took a bit longer than desired, however communication and overall satisfaction is good. Would recommend.

I recently bought a car from New Automotive and had a great experience. Matt was really friendly, helpful, and made the whole process easy and stress-free. We had a great experience buying from Matt at Newautomotive from start to finish. No pressure selling the whole process was straight forward and relaxed. First came across New Automotive on Autotrader. Once I got in contact with what I wanted, Matt kept me updated on the vehicles he was getting in that was matching what I wanted. The car I purchased from Matt has been flawless and the work done shows how much Matt cares for his customers. Matt explained everything that was done. Matt was always down to earth and gave us all the time to explain everything about the car etc. I had some queries after purchasing the vehicle and Matt was quick to help and this shows his interest in the customers and after sales too. I would highly recommend new automotive for anyone looking for great conditioned cars and a high level of service.

Matt is a lovely man, nothing seems to be to much for him. We had a couple of issues with the car when first brought, Matt arranged for the car to be picked up and was fixed with no issues or payment needed. Still several months down the line I rang him about something to do with the car and he helped me out straight away, honestly a lovely man and we are enjoying our car! Thanks Matt

Bought a 2012 Ford Focus from Matt last week and everything has been fantastic, absolutely no problems whatsoever, had a minor abs light and had it fixed within days.

Matt was really helpful - a very unassuming no pressure car sales man. He was happy to communicate which cars were available and happy to offer test drives. He is happy to offer any aftercare issues or concerns which is reassuring when you buying your son’s first car. Great service all round - thank you Matt

New Automotive are an extremely professional motor supplier. We recently bought an emmaculate car. Matt the owner, is very trustworthy and provided us with all the reassurance. There was no pressure to buy, rather Matt wanted to ensure we bought the right vehicle. He's aftercare has been amazing. Contacting us to ensure the car was ok and that we were happy. The car came with 6 months warranty and runs fantastic. Massive thankyou Matt and New Automotive for such an amazingly wonderful experience. We are to return soon for a second car!
