NLBM - transition to a no conflict law practice

NLBM has provided me the training, the resources, the community, the encouragement, and the confidence to transition my law practice from a high conflict litigation practice into an estate planning practice where there is virtually no conflict. I now feel like I am truly delivering a heart centered service to families and this has given me the ability to be the trusted advisor that people need and want.

I joined New Law Business Model in 2020…

I joined New Law Business Model in 2020 when I transitioned from a 25-year career as a personal injury attorney into estate planning. That's a significant pivot — not just legally, but in terms of how you run a practice and think about your role as a business owner. NLBM gave me the structure I didn't know I needed.
The core membership offers real substance: a framework for building an estate planning practice that is client-centered and sustainable, monthly business coaching check-ins, and access to a genuinely warm and engaged community of attorneys who are navigating the same path. The Facebook group is active and supportive, and the live educational events throughout the year are worth attending — both for the content and for the connections you make.
What I appreciated most was NLBM's philosophy of a heart-centered law practice — one that doesn't consume your entire life. That resonated with me, and I believe their systems and guidance genuinely reflect that value.
Like anything, results require real effort on your part. But if you're an attorney considering estate planning and you want a proven framework, community, and coaching to help you build something meaningful, NLBM is worth a serious look.

A Godsend when I needed it the most!

NLBM fell into my lap at a time I needed it the most, and didn't really even know yet to what extent at the time. Prior to getting started, I was initially worried about whether the promises of the program were too good to be true and worth the investment, but NLBM has delivered above and beyond every step of the way. I cannot say enough good things about the support and resources they provide to their members, particularly where they are new to estate planning and running a business. While the initial process of being certified as a PFL and passing the assessment feels a bit overwhelming at times, it is definitely doable. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is how things are bifurcated between pre and post assessment. I understand how they want people to be focused on passing the assessment and doing plans the PFL way, but its difficult to get the full picture and start setting up your business and get the tools you need lined up when you aren't given access to all the information. I also feel like most business coaches are remote and in different time zones that don't cater well to west-coast participants which can mean finding time on the calendar that actually doesn't interfere with your time blocked calendar difficult.

against all odds - followed the plan -- and it WORKED FOR ME

I have been participating as a certified PFL for more than a year now while struggling with family situations and other stuff preventing me from succeeding. but - last week -From my pilates class I met a woman (Tia) who is a tax preparer and financial (series 7) adviser –
We got to chatting and she told me about her clients who actually own property in Hawaii – and have an offshore trust into which they conveyed the property to protect it from liability – but Tia is preparing the IRS return forms and asking questions – so she brought her clients to meet with me –
On Monday
Yes, they have an offshore trust and several LLCs “in the trust” and land “in the trust” for which they paid some internet lawyer group $40 thousand dollars
they Showed me everything –
There is an offshore trust
And in this offshore trust – there is $ 1 dollar

So they have hired me to renovate and fix all of this – and are happy to work with me on my flat fee agreements – offered – WITH CONFIDENCE, Maia – and they did not bat an eye.

So, I am learning a lot about owning and protecting real property in Hawaii – client’s grandparents and before -- owned the property before Hawaii became a state!

And, Today - Maia – I told you I undercharged these clients who came in today to have me review their wills –
And they have hired me flat fee for $3500 to fix their paperwork so it works
And
They are hiring me to prepare an LAPT for $5K – again, offered WITH CONFIDENCE

So thank you both and Ali and all the educators – I think this is starting to “work for me” -- a good day. And a good week IMPROVEMENT

Thank you!
Amy

This is such a great example of what can happen when you stay in the work—even when life is throwing a lot at you.

You followed the plan, stayed engaged, and then when the opportunity showed up… you were ready. That’s the difference.

And the confidence in your pricing really stands out. Moving into $3.5K and $5K flat fees without hesitation—and having clients say yes without blinking—is exactly the kind of shift we see when things start to click.

We're really glad to see this momentum building for you—this didn’t happen “against all odds” by accident. It came from continued participation, learning, and actually using the model in real conversations.

And that is how it starts. Congrats!

Built for Lawyers Who Want to Stand Out

New Law Business Model provides clarity, structure, and steady support that keeps lawyers from feeling lost or overwhelmed. The program is built with care, integrity, and a deep commitment to client‑centered practice.
Complex legal concepts are broken down into clear, digestible modules, making estate planning accessible even without prior experience. Yaasha Sabba is an exceptional instructor who explains sophisticated legal matters with precision and practicality. David Rowan’s consistent encouragement and coaching are invaluable, and Ali’s leadership is evident in her constant focus on improving the program and providing better tools to make both law practice and business more manageable.
I am deeply grateful for this program and would highly recommend it. By teaching lawyers how to truly set themselves apart, NLBM creates real job security and positions practitioners for long‑term success despite increasing competition.

From Uncertainty to a Practice I Truly Enjoy

When I first considered starting my own law practice, I was unsure about everything, from how to structure the business to how to confidently charge what my work was worth.

Joining New Law Business Model gave me the tools, structure, and confidence to gradually build a practice that I truly enjoy. The program provides excellent ongoing education, and the opportunity to learn from other practitioners who are building their practices as well.

The 1:1 and group coaching are extremely valuable. They help me understand that the ups and downs of running a law practice are normal, which kept me from panicking during the early stages and allowed me to stay focused on building the practice the right way.

Perhaps the biggest change for me was gaining confidence in my pricing. I went from being hesitant to charge a mid-premium rate to comfortably charging the suggested rates and even beyond as my practice developed.

I am very grateful for the support, mentorship, and community the program provides. It truly helped me create a practice that aligns with the work I enjoy and the clients I want to serve.

Thank you for sharing this—it means a lot.

What you described is exactly the journey we see so often: going from uncertainty to real confidence in both your practice and your pricing. That shift doesn’t happen overnight—it comes from staying engaged, using the coaching, and being in a community of attorneys building alongside you.

Your point about pricing is especially powerful. We regularly see members move from hesitation into confidently charging mid- to premium-level fees ($4.5k–$6.5k+) as they grow into the value they provide.

This is a great example of what’s possible when you stay in the work and actually use the support available.

We’re really glad to be part of your journey. Congrats on your success!

Think Twice about spending this amount of money. It may not be worth it.

It seems that some attorneys actually do get some benefit from NLBM. I did not. And from the reviews here, a lot of other attorneys did not as well.

It is very expensive and the program seems to be just recorded conversations or transcripts of Ali (the founder) talking. Same for most of the written material. The training sessions were minimally effective in my humble opinion. Of course they may have updated their material since I was part of the program.

The cost/benefit analysis for me just didn't work and I quit after one year. Be careful and do not let the auto renewal get you because then you'll be on the hook for another year's worth. Unfortunately, as Ali once mentioned it was a very very expensive learning experience (thousands of dollars, five figures worth).

What I learned, going forward, is to be very very careful when you commit to paying five figure sums of money.

There are other alternatives that don't fleece you like NLBM. And there are other means to learn how to run a law practice that will not hamper you with the amount of money they take from you (willingly and by contractual obligations that you do not want to breach especially if you are just beginning in the estate planning field.)

Good luck.

Yes I am human and indeed I was enrolled in your program. But I feel no need to re-live my experiences with your program by reaching out to you. It appears many other attorneys are satisfied with it from the positive reviews. But there are also others with similar experiences to mine. And prospective attorneys interested in your program should be able to read all reviews and make their own decisions.

Hi Anonymous, Ali Katz, founder of NewLaw, here. We welcome genuine feedback — even when it's critical — because it helps us grow and serve better. It's baked into our core values.

First, you wrote: “It is very expensive and the program seems to be just recorded conversations or transcripts of Ali (the founder) talking.” This is not accurate, so it has me very curious if you actually were enrolled in our program.

We provide such a significant breadth of support that most lawyers report that they cannot utilize all of what we provide, so your report here is incongruent with what we hear across the board from the lawyers working with us.

In addition to our on-demand curriculum and resources, we provide 1:1 support for everyone who enrolls in our membership programs.

And, we have up to 55 live coaching and mentorship calls per month with me plus our Law Business Mentors and business coaches, who have been with us 5-10 years on average, supporting lawyers to grow their businesses.

Second, you wrote: “Be careful and do not let the auto renewal get you because then you'll be on the hook for another year's worth.” This is inaccurate. We do not have an auto-renewal for an annual commitment. After the initial 12-month commitment, all our memberships become month to month automatically.

We incentivize a one-year commitment your first year because that commitment is what leads to not giving up when it gets hard. And, yes, building any kind of a business is hard and takes time.

But for the lawyers who show up, use our resources, lean into our support and ask for help during their first year, we see consistent results. And without a commitment, it’s easy to buy something and not do it, thereby wasting your time and money.

If you were a member of ours, and you did not attend the live calls, and ask for help, it makes sense that you did not succeed.

Did you reach out to us and ask for additional support? If so, and you did not get supported, please email me personally –– alexis at newlawbusinessmodel dot com – so I can address this with you directly and ensure you received what you invested in.

On the investment side—I agree with you. Choosing to invest five figures in anything should be done thoughtfully and with care. For the attorneys who do the work, their investment translates into 80%+ engagement rates, average fees of $4500-$6500 per client, ongoing recurring revenue, and clients they love to serve who love them right back—and we understand that wasn’t your experience.

I’m curious to know where you got stuck. Was it on learning estate planning? Learning to engage clients? Learning to get prospects booked on your calendar? If you email me, I’m happy to look at where you got stuck and help you achieve the success you desire.

We go to great lengths to screen candidates to ensure that we only enroll lawyers we feel confident can be successful with our model. If we missed something with your enrollment, I want to bring it to our enrollment team, but I can only do that if we are in contact. If you are a real human, please do be in touch directly.

We’re here in service and support.

NLBM works!

I have been trying to transition my practice from Family Law to Estate Planning for six years, and used a different coaching program. After about a year and a half I gave up on the program. Somehow I found NLBM and gave it a shot and I am so excited to say that I have fully transitioned to Estate Planning. The program absolutely works and has filled my pipeline. But perhaps the best part is my coach, Kristyn. She not only coached me through the program but helped me get through the roadblocks that were preventing me from moving forward with this transition and supporting me outside of just practice. I finally have control over my schedule and freedom to practice the way I want to.

Love hearing this—what a big shift.

Making a full transition like that after six years (and a previous program that didn’t get you there) is no small thing. You stayed with it, did the work, and now you’re seeing the results—both in a full pipeline and in having real control over your schedule.

Also really appreciate you calling out the coaching. That kind of support—working through both business strategy *and* the personal roadblocks—is a big part of why this works when people stay engaged.

This is a great example of what’s possible when the right structure, support, and implementation all come together.

So glad to be part of your journey.

I’ve had a very positive experience…

I’ve had a very positive experience with New Law Business Model and the Personal Family Lawyer® systems. The model itself is top-notch — thoughtfully designed, values-driven, and incredibly comprehensive. The training is practical and relevant, the support team is responsive, and the attorney community is extremely collaborative and generous. I genuinely feel equipped to build a modern, client-centered estate planning practice because of the systems they’ve created and the generosity of the community.

I also appreciate that the organization listens. They actively seek feedback and make real efforts to respond to what the community needs, which says a lot about their leadership and long-term vision.

Like many innovative companies, they’ve taken ambitious steps to develop new technology intended to replace multiple outside platforms. While the vision is strong, that product rollout appears to still be evolving, and I’m hopeful to see continued refinement there.

Overall, I’m really happy with NLBM and believe that this has been a meaningful investment in my firm, and I value being part of a community that is committed to serving families well and continually improving.

We’re glad you’ve felt the strength of the model, the training, and especially the community. That collaborative environment and shared commitment to serving families well is something we’re very intentional about building.

And we hear you on the tech. You’re right—we’ve taken on a big vision to create an all-in-one system, and with that comes ongoing refinement. Feedback like yours is exactly what helps us continue to improve and make it better for everyone using it day-to-day.

This is a great snapshot of what we aim for: a values-driven model, strong support, and a community of attorneys who are actively growing and evolving together.

Grateful to have you as part of it!

I began my journey with New Law Business Model over six years ago, and I can tell you their program has changed my law practice and my life! After being stuck in a family law career for two decades, they helped me not only with the resources, but the training to make the leap over to having a thriving estate planning practice. At any given time on any given day there are live trainings with topics ranging from estate planning to attracting new clients to selling your law practice. If you can’t find help on any particular topic, you’re not looking. We absolutely love our practice now and look forward to our continued partnership with NLBM.

Highly recommend the NBLM

NLBM is a great program that has changed my career. I used to be a litigation attorney and now practice in estate planning. It is a comprehensive course that teaches a system that helps secure clients and focuses on the clients' and families' needs in order to keep them out of court and out of conflict. Ali Katz was kind enough to sit down with me at a conference to help me work through some issues and questions I was having. She did not have to do that, as she has people she hires to handle those things for her, but she did it because she truly cares and loves what she does.

High Cost, Limited Value, Unproven Sustainable Framework

I’m sharing this as a former employee of a firm that participated in NLBM and the AGM program. With 15 years in HR Tech and operations—building Customer Success teams and leading organizational strategy—I was responsible for evaluating and executing the operational model inside a member firm.

Based on my experience, the value of the program is far more limited than the messaging suggests. While the materials may help attorneys brand-new to Estate Planning, the same foundational knowledge is widely available at a much lower cost. The cost-to-value ratio became increasingly difficult to justify.

A core concern for me was the lack of proof of concept. I did not see the type of operational rigor that should underpin a business model marketed as a comprehensive, strategic approach. There was no capacity modeling, no staffing forecasts, no client journey mapping, and no data-driven analysis demonstrating that the model is sustainable at scale. Without this foundation, it was challenging to understand how the program’s recommendations support long-term firm growth.

The business model itself is heavily attorney-centric. It emphasizes delegating non-legal tasks to staff, raising prices to cover that structure, and positioning this as a “holistic” client experience. From what I observed, the actual added value to clients or staff did not align with the significant price increases the model encourages.

Many attorneys join NLBM because they’re seeking strong operational guidance. In my view, the coaching team did not consistently demonstrate the depth of business or operational expertise required to provide that guidance. Coaching can be valuable for personal development, but sustainable business growth requires consultants with specialized operational backgrounds—expertise that I did not consistently see delivered.

NLBM also promotes a list of preferred vendors. In our firm’s experience, several of these partnerships did not deliver the level of service or outcomes we expected. When we raised concerns, the responses often felt more like reframing or redirecting rather than meaningfully addressing the issues. This made it difficult to resolve challenges.

This review reflects my professional assessment and firsthand experience. I hope it helps firms make informed decisions about the type of support that will genuinely advance their business.

*My original review was submitted in September but removed after NLBM flagged my review. Since then there have been a number of new 5.0 reviews submitted.

Kristy, thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review. We hear the professional experience you’re bringing to this, and we want to respond clearly to the specific points you raised so readers can understand what our programs are — and what they are not.

Cost, value, and who the program is for:
Our work is not designed as a low-cost education product or content library. It is an implementation-based operating system for estate planning firms that want to move beyond founder-dependent practices. While some concepts may feel familiar to experienced operators, the value lies in how strategy, pricing, staffing, delivery, leadership, and client experience are integrated and implemented inside real firms with real constraints. For firms not seeking that level of integration or hands-on execution, the investment may not feel aligned.

Proof of concept and operational rigor:
Operational rigor is core to our methodology. In our Advanced Growth Mastermind (AGM) program, firms work across CEO (typically the attorney), COO, CFO, and CMO tracks, with applied work in capacity planning, staffing design, financial modeling, pricing strategy, client journey mapping, and performance tracking. These tools are intentionally built for small-to-mid-sized professional service firms, where regulatory environments and growth realities differ from enterprise models. The goal is sustainable growth without sacrificing client trust or team health.

It’s also important to note that this perspective reflects a single firm and a specific employment experience. You were brought in to support operational alignment within that firm; the circumstances surrounding the conclusion of that role are separate, and the firm has continued to make progress toward operational alignment beyond your tenure.

Attorney-centricity and pricing:
Our model is not about pushing work onto staff or raising prices for the sake of margin. It is about building firms that are not dependent on a single attorney’s capacity. This includes investing in leadership, training non-attorney team members, clarifying roles, improving delivery systems, and aligning pricing with the actual experience being delivered. Pricing changes are intended to support better service, healthier teams, and long-term viability — not simply overhead.

Depth of operational guidance:
Many attorneys come to us because they were never taught how to run a business. Our role is to meet them where they are and provide structured frameworks that reduce costly trial and error. AGM is not personal-development coaching presented as business strategy. It includes experienced operators across finance, operations, marketing, and leadership with a strong focus on execution. We also recognize that our approach will not be the right fit for every firm.

Vendors:
With more than 800 firms nationwide, no single vendor will be right for every practice, and preferred vendors are not mandates — they are options that have delivered results for many members. Vendors actively market to firms in this space, and we encourage members to involve their coaching team when evaluating any vendor so fit and expectations can be assessed early. When issues arise, we help firms evaluate outcomes, course-correct, and make informed decisions. We reassess partnerships based on feedback and results and take concerns about ethics or service quality seriously.

Fit overall:
Firms should choose support that aligns with their goals and how they want to grow. Some leaders prefer generic consulting or attorney-centric coaching. Our work is designed for firms that want an integrated framework balancing data, leadership, client trust, and sustainable execution across the entire firm. We encourage prospective members to evaluate any program based on the kind of firm they want to build.

Thank you again for sharing your perspective.
