Someone has access to my checking account and there is no help available.

Someone has access to my checking account and there is nobody that I can reach to help me.

I received an email alert from Northwest on Saturday that someone had logged into my account from an unknown device and that I should call for help.

The problem is, they don't have customer service available on the weekends or on holidays. It is now Monday - but it is President's Day and so of course they are still out.

I called the fraud line and it is a 3rd party company who said they only deal with debit cards, not account issues. I then called the customer service line and instead of telling me that they are not there today, it just kept me on hold.

I can see in the account that someone has indeed accessed it, but there is absolutely nothing I can do because they don't have anyone available to help. This is unacceptable. Scammers often hit at night or on weekends.

What is the point of sending alerts that tell you to call customer service right away if there is no one that you can call?

I have also found that deposits and transfers take much longer to clear with this bank than with others that I have used.

I do not recommend this bank.

UNDO HARDSHIP!!!

Northwest Bank has charged me an overdraft fee, even though I showed proof of
depositing $166 on the same day that my account was overdrawn by
$48.66.
Yes, they charge me a $37 overdraft fee the same day, even though their website
showed I deposited $166 ON THE SAMEDAY.
ANDTHEYREFUSED TOREFUNDTHE$37.
Today I went into the bank and showed that I was double charged $11.99 from
Spotify, once on February 2nd, and again on February 13th. The agent said “she
would have to fill out a dispute form and wait for the dispute department’s
response”, AND, “I WAS GOING TO BE CHARGED A $37 OVERDRAFTFEE”.
The last fraud withdrawal I reported, was immediately over the phone on the
same day, October 31, 2025. The payment of $66, andan unauthorized payment of
$9.99 had gone through. And I had to fill out ANOTHER DISPUTE FORM AT THE
LOCATION @1690SheridanDr. Kenmore, NY 14223- ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS
!!!
I still haven’t received a final decision from the dispute department about that
Today’s date is February 13th, 2026.
Northwest Bank renders UNDO HARDSHIP!!!

Absolutely worst bank I have ever…

Absolutely worst bank I have ever banked with. I have had several car loans through different banks all have been more than fine. Amy at northwest is only a small piece of what’s wrong with this whole bank but boy does she really hate her job and take it out on anyone who calls.

My car has been totaled, they received $23,000 and put NONE of it towards the interest and continued to charge me normal payments like nothing happened. My warranty has been canceled and check sent to them over 30 days ago, they lost it and need it resent. GAP has been filed and they said that they’re sending me to collections even though they have not helped at all on their part.

Would never recommend.

This bank is the worst bank in the…

This bank is the worst bank in the world. They literally stole my truck by claiming that I was in jail, not by missing payments, but claiming that I was incarcerated, which was not the case when the tow truck driver heard that I was who I said, I was by way of my identification he couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t about to get in a fight with this guy, so I let him take the truck however when I called the bank to get my truck back, they cleaned that due to their customer agreement. It was within their rights to take my vehicle so I proved I wasn’t in jail. They still didn’t wanna give it back to me and they demanded a $40,000 payment in full Even though they were incorrect and wrong and broke the law in the state of New Jersey by taking my vehicle, do not use this bank by any means it could cost you $70,000 as it cost to me.Jn

$5/month service fee for savings…

$5/month service fee for savings account balances under $300….how does this even make sense……losing money in a SAVINGS ACCOUNT??? Feels like a money making scam to me. Their customer service could not close my account, I had to do so in my own. Way to loose a 30+ year customer! My checking account soon to follow.

Helpful

I've had nothing but exceptional service from the men in the offices dealing with accounts and changes and paperwork for buying a house. Even for the tellers, the line is never more than 5 minutes. Website is easy to use and they have options to get more interest if you ask.

Inconvenient Experience Abroad

I have been a loyal customer to Northwest for 8 years. What happened yesterday was the worst inconvenience I have ever experienced with them. I am currently studying abroad in the United Kingdom and told Northwest I would be outside the United States for a long period of time. Have not had an issue using my bank account until yesterday. I was at an Apple store, having to make a payment for a computer repair, which was a decent amount of money. Because it was a large amount, my bank put a hold on them because they were suspicious of Fraud. I have had this happen before, and it could be resolved easily, but that was in the US. Abroad, that's a whole different story. Northwest does not have an international customer service helpline, so I had to use their chat, which did not work either. Things just got worse after having to use someone else's phone to make an overseas call. I got a hold of a customer service agent, and they asked me a few security questions and then needed to send me a security code to verify my identity. The problem was that they could only send it to an American number that belonged to me. I did not have an active American number anymore and they could not send it to my UK phone number. I then asked if they could send the code to my email, and they said NO! This was where I was entering a full state of panic as there was no way they could help me with this situation. I hung up with them and then called the local branch of Northwest I belong to and explained the whole situation. After clearing security questions, I explained the phone situation, and they asked me if I had attempted to make the purchase that started this whole charade; I said yes, and then they unlocked my card. This was the most hellish two hours of my life where I had no ability to unlock my card with my money. They need to do better with this because I am sure I am not the only customer who has experienced this before. I have every intention of switching banks come the new year because I certainly cannot go through that again! Do better Northwest!

Their hours make it impossible to do…

Their hours make it impossible to do any banking. They don't even hold banking hours of 9 to 5. In order to get any banking done you basically have to take time off from work to make it there before they close.

They might as well call them selves and online only bank that makes everything with a few extra steps.

Northwest Bank is not the Bank you want…

Northwest Bank is not the Bank you want to work with! I have an auto loan with them. Up until last month, I had a payment book that I would clip out the coupon, write a personal check and mail it to their PO Box. This is now the 2nd time in a three year period of time that they didn't receive my mailed in payment. I have great credit, I'm employed full time, I make enough each month to easily cover these payments, but it really upsets me when I get a text message indicating that the payment was never received. I then call Northwest Bank and need to go through a RIDICILOUS proof my identity to make my payment. To make matters worse they charged my a late fee and a processing fee. SHAME ON YOU NORTHWEST BANK! If you can bank or get a loan elsewhere do your self a favor and do it, because banking with NORTHWEST BANK will prove that they only care about gouging you when a payment was mailed and not received. Of course anyone in business would value the relationship and look at my history, BUT NOT these clowns. Go elsewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They actually scammed me

They actually scammed me. They lied to me and said I had a charge from amazon go through which bounced my account, so they charged me an overdraft fee. What actually happened, was they were hitting me with 10$ account service charges every single month, on top of a 3$ account paper statement charge, which I told them adamantly, I did not want They straight up lied to me and gave me falsified statements when I went in to clear things up. The only reason I knew it was a lie, was because my paper statements delivered months in advance were completely different. Do NOT GET THIS BANK!

Unfair Lending Practices

I have an auto loan with these jokers. I attempted to pay down principal early on my loan. Their systems are programmed to take any payment that is more the normal payment towards the next payment not to pay down principal. I discovered this when I stopped getting payment notices for a couple of months. I made another payment and they took nearly three fourths of the payment to interest. They indicated that interest accrues every day since the last payment. Since I had not made a payment in 2 plus months this cause my next payment to be nearly consumed as interest. They said they would go back and change it but I would still own a lot of interest since I had not made a payment. This might be the most predatory lender I have ever dealt with. I atttempted to resolve with their customer service team and they indicated that considered the matter closed. I am going to pay off or refinance elsewhere even if I have to pay a higher interest rates. These guys are loan sharks.

I have been a customer for more than 20 years. They never notified me of the minimum balance change on my account. They charged me 4 monthly fees before I realized what they did. They refused to reimburse these fees even though they never notified me of their minimum balance change. This bank has gone down hill over the last 5 years or more. I highly suggest you bank with someone else.

The worst company to possibly do…

The worst company to possibly do banking with. My wallet was stolen in London and I'm stuck here because it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to figure out how to ship something overnight. I even offered to ship it on my own shipping account so they didn't have any charges.1 star is too high of a score for them and they have never heard of the term "customer service." You'd be better off putting your money under your mattress.

Just bad experience after bad experience

It wasn't all their fault, & I'm even tempted to give it 2 stars for that reason - they are an actual institution & not a scam or anything like that, but they do suck at being a bank.

I got a mailer when I moved here less than a year ago, offering me $500 if I signed up for an account & set up my direct deposit through them. I had just moved, obviously, & my old bank doesn't have locations where I live now, so I figured, 'eh, why not, it's a "free" $500' - at least, I have to have my direct deposit somewhere, so it might at well be here, & there was a branch just a few minutes from my house.

There's a $25 monthly service fee on the account, which sounds crazy because it is, but it's waived as long as I have my direct deposit going into the account, so I figure it's not $25/mo *to me*, right?

When I would go to the local branch I would wait 15 minutes, 20 minutes once, with 1 person in front of me. Every time.

I once sat in a NWB drive-through for over half an hour, with 2 cars ahead of me. I *literally* would have driven away if I wasn't trapped behind those 2 cars & someone else hadn't pulled in behind me... THEN they took 20 minutes just for me at the window, without coming back to the speaker to tell me what was going on for over 10 minutes at one point.

I deposited money in their ATM because they emailed me that I had overdrawn my account (forgot it was on an account as the automatic payment method), but when I went inside they said that ATM deposits take a day (which makes so little sense... It's literally cash) so I would need to deposit the amount again Inside the branch so that my account wouldn't be overdrawn.

I wrote a check & between writing it & it being cashed I was charged for something, so the check wasn't going to clear, but they email me letting me know this, telling me if I go put money in the account, then everything will be fine, so I do... The next day they email telling me they didn't process the check, that I was being charged an NSF fee of $35, & that I was being charged a $35 overdraft fee for a different <$15 transaction that posted the same day.

It's my fault, but if they processed that transaction first, then the check, it wouldn't have been over-drafting the account. They processed the transactions in a way that made me incur the greatest amount of fees.

Called support, & they said they just "decide" to process the transaction or not but the $35 occurs either way. Either a $35 overdraft fee or a $35 NSF fee. When I told them I had opted out of overdraft they said that's just for the debit card, & since they were checks, they still "try to process them" - said they couldn't waive the fees even though it was my first time AND I had deposited the money before the check actually bounced.

The local branch shut (kind of unsurprising; there was only ever 1 person banking in there at a time, & it was a pretty big building despite being a "small branch" & only having 1-2 tellers).

Oh, $500 bonus for opening the account: I had to keep the account open for 3 billing cycles while getting the direct deposit (fair enough), so I call them 4 months later, like, hey, it's cool whenever you get around to it, but are you sending me $500?

They say, yeah, I see the coupon on your account here. It just has to be the complete billing cycle, & then 30 days after is when we actually send it, so it will be Dec. 14th (2022). Sweet, a little extra money for the family's Christmas presents will be great! Mind you I had kept the mailer up to this point but I figured since it was all set I could throw it away, so I did.

Dec 14th came & went, the last day to order stuff on Amazon to be delivered by Christmas came & went, the new year came & went, no $500. So I write into their secure message portal asking what's up - I figure having it in writing will be better since it's frankly getting kind of sus now. They reply that the promotion was only going until [date], & that I didn't open my account until a week after that…

I typed in the promo code when I made the account - it showed up as active, but more importantly, when I called early in Dec. You Said It Was On My Account And GAVE ME A DATE that I would receive it!

They have no record of that call.

We've been going back & forth since Jan. $25/mo fee since I stopped using them as my primary bank…

Yesterday they say they are sending my "complaint" to be reviewed and there is nothing more they can do to help. I was speechless. I thought I was requesting the $500. Apparently, they thought I was just spending my time complaining to them after waiting days, even weeks, for their replies.

I'm in the process of closing my accounts now.

-

Edit: Credit where it’s due: they sent the $500. They sent it 6 months late, and without an acknowledgment of the mishandling of the entire situation. Oh and without interest. I wouldn’t expect it, but I just think they might have wanted (demanded) some late fees and interest if it were me owing them…

Sketchy, dishonest, and uncooperative

I purchased a car and unfortunately financed through Northwest Bank. They operate on the borders of legality and are extremely sketchy, dishonest, and manipulative. For example, my monthly payment is due on 19 every month. However, they do not send my invoice until 13. This means that, if I want until I receive my invoice, my payment will not arrive in time.

After they refused to send the invoice earlier, I started paying before receiving the invoice. While I clearly stated that the extra was to pay down the principle, they applied it to extra payments and did not send me an invoice for the following month. I am now trying to deal with them to "correct" this error.
