NRG Gym Situated in Gravesend is not good for joining.
Join this month and informed them after the first visit that I would not continue due to the Carpet in the whole gym which does not nice smell and had an allergy to carpet, also during the first visit no member of staff was available for help.
They confirm that membership is cancelled as I reported within 14 days.
No refund has been received yet, sent an email to them but there has been no reply yet and they took next month's payment today.
Poor customer service experience, only email option is available which they respond hardly.

Unacceptable

Very poor staff or personnel display
Management wasn’t any better, possible rude.
Not enough space on this tiny box to even start explaining the wrongs here and that’s honestly!!

They need to treat people better especially loyal members, i have been a member of this gym before the actual gym was open, so that’s over 13years, i was in the first 100 members to join this gym when it was £9.99.

One-star review for the Watford branch…

One-star review for the Watford branch due to management’s failure to address harmful ideologies among staff, despite having their attention brought to it.

Members, particularly women and LGBTQ+ individuals, should be cautious. Silviu-Sebastian Stan, a PT, has shared content promoting misogyny, anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, and even threats of violence, such as claiming homosexuals should “be scared of him.” He also expressed support for anti-Semitic, anti-NATO figures over parties supporting LGBTQ+ rights.

His comments about women are equally inappropriate for a PT, including remarks like, “Flirting with a chubby girl at the gym is like getting Bitcoin in 2008,” and “Me wondering why all girls think they’re fat except the fat ones.”

With hate crimes against women and LGBTQ+ individuals on the rise, this behaviour creates an unsafe environment. Management must take action to ensure the gym is a safe and inclusive space for all members.

Avoid Walsall. Nothing works and they scam you.

It used to be good in walsall when sweat owned it. Since this new guy bought it it's a total mess. Everything is always broken. The machines never work and when you cancel your membership with one month's notification even though they take payment at the start of your month they'll try and take another payment at the end of the month and scam you with admin fees for their mistake for not cancelling it properly. DEFINITELY AVOID WALSALL. I HOPE IT CLOSES DOWN AND SOMEONE ELSE BUYS IT WHO CARES ABOUT IT PROPERLY.

NRG Sheffield - BE CAREFUL MALE CLEANER AND STAFF

Went in to sort out some issues and complaints regarding NRG cleaner but the staff are just like no other - Completely rude and inconsiderate, not listening to any safety concerns regarding their customers - where the male cleaner comes in to the female changing rooms without notice. Absolutely, do not recommend this gym at all especially for women! You can’t complain because they don’t take anything seriously or they’ll just ban your gym membership account which they have done to several girls! What kind of gym is this? Never experienced anything like this, pure gym that was located before, the staff were so polite & took care of their members. The staff at NRG, in particular Cheryl & Jaz Bangra are the most rudest and most argumentative staff that will just continuously raise their voice without hearing out what their members have to say. These two need to be replaced with better management that hear their customers/ members concerns. We came to raise an issue because we felt uncomfortable and we felt as though they would appreciate this feedback and sort things out but it’s like they can’t take any critical feedback & deal with things bang out of order.

We were accused as to being “aggressive” towards the male cleaner, which is FALSE! The CCTV footage shows us women questioning the cleaner as to why he is locking the changing room doors after repeating “effing hell, no one is coming in”. THAT ABUSE from YOUR cleaner is AGGRESSIVE, not once has management asked us the actual situation instead they dismissed many members account just because we asked a cleaner a simple question which looked like we were apparently “abusing” him. This gym is like no other, definitely do not recommend and I know that many sisters have cancelled their membership due to the lack of disrespect from management.

Andy & Usman have been very supportive. This gym really needs to be sorted out by the CEO Shafique Ahmed, you need to look into this further with the CCTV footage. Your staff are terrible, banning members accounts without explaining/ hearing their customers out & this is not the way to deal with things. Never experienced this and this is supposed to be a gym where people come to get their mind off things and work out in peace. Disgusting.

NRG Sheffield Spitalhill scammed me

NRG Sheffield Spitalhill scammed me

I have been a member of this gym about four months and I have set my direct debit at the point of of registration and agreed with them to take the money at the end each month but I have noticed that that they are not taking the money from the account and paid the second month online and the next month I have been waiting them to take the money but they have cancelled my subscription and when I tried to pay new account they said your account is still active and I paid the fee with my existing account but I couldn’t access to enter the gym when I asked them the manager couldn’t even explain what’s going on and he was only telling me you have to pay two months together I said why I’m I going to pay two months and he couldn’t convince me the reason why my subscription is not working when I paid the fee of the month I also asked why their direct debit isn’t working but he sounded in competent and lacking experience
The place is nice and clean but it seems management is not doing his job

NRG women only - Male cleaner Hi this is a big complaint that I am…

Hi this is a big complaint that I am wanting to make regarding two members of NRG staff. Cheryl & Mark Moor. Firstly, I would like to start off by commenting on the disrespect and the lack of consideration when it comes to customer complaints especially female gym members. The amount of times that us female members have complained regarding the male workers that have had no respect and come into the female only zone without giving females the time to hide/ cover up. Specifically Mark Moor the cleaner who has done this multiple times and has disrespected / shouted at females - his attitude is not professional at all. A female member wanted to get her belongings from the changing rooms but he responded with “No one is effing going to thechanging room” & that he is locking the door. Is this the staff that you’re hiring?? He gives no warning while coming up - how is this a female only zone when females are not given time to hide / be warned when Mark Moor come so whenever with no sufficient warning. Utterly disgusting. This is not it, it is disgusting and horrible how women feel uncomfortable and unsafe when it is clearly a FEMALE ONLY ZONE. We have contacted management several times yet they are blaming us members for being ‘problematic’ when nothing from our side is being considered which is disgusting as women should feel safe when in the female zone and able to workout in peace without be conscious all the time. We have continuously have had to leave the gym because of this disrespect from the cleaner and the main manager (Cheryl) is not doing anything about this issue which is why we are leaving a public review and will be notifying the CEO! What are we paying for??? When the service is crap and along with the manager Cheryl & Mark Moor showing a lack of consideration towards their female customers. We’re not heard and we are not respected either. It’s disgusting how females have to beg for respect, as countless times we have told staff that it is okay for male cleaners to come in and do their bit but to KNOCK AND WAIT until everything and everyone has said it’s CLEAR to enter. You don’t knock and walk in, whats the point of knocking??? I have been to Pure Gym (the old one where NRG was located) and in the female only zone this has NEVER been a problem as the male members of staff had respect hut this is utterly horrible with regards to the NRG male cleaner. Sort this out!

Thank you to those that have been supportive and understanding throughout this whole situation (Andy & Usman) we appreciate your kind words and actually understanding us, being calm & patient with us.

NRG Sheffield (Spital Hill).

NRG Sheffield (Spital Hill).

WOMEN ONLY AREA!

Urgent Complaint Regarding Male Cleaners and Respect Of Privacy.

I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the lack of privacy and respect at the Sheffield NRG gym on Spital Hill, specifically related to the male cleaner entering the women-only areas unannounced. This issue has been raised with the management multiple times, yet no effective action has been taken to resolve it.

On May 20, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, a male cleaner entered the women’s cubicle and changing rooms without prior notice. As Muslim women who observe strict guidelines about covering up, this intrusion was extremely distressing and unacceptable. Despite confronting the cleaner, his response was rude and aggressive, dismissing our legitimate concerns and suggesting that we were playing a "racist card" by complaining.

When the gym first opened, it was made clear that there would be women-only sessions to accommodate our religious needs. However, we have observed male personal trainers and cleaners entering the women-only areas frequently, often during peak times. This contradicts the initial assurances and fails to respect our privacy and religious practices.

We have raised this issue with the manager, on several occasions and have even suggested implementing a complaint box to address such concerns. Unfortunately, these suggestions have been ignored, and the situation remains unresolved.

We pay for a service that is supposed to provide a respectful and dignified environment. It is crucial that the gym management takes immediate action to ensure that male staff do not enter women-only areas unannounced and that our religious needs are taken into serious consideration.

I urge you to address this matter urgently and implement appropriate measures to prevent any recurrence. Failure to do so will leave us with no choice but to escalate the issue to higher authorities and consider alternative gyms that respect our privacy.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Money making scam, near impossible to cancel

Horrible experience with NRG, it was branded as a shiny new modern gym replacing the PureGym, with all new equipment, infrared saunas and the like...
The gym itself is decent albeit very commercial and basic, many of the bars aren't industry standard especially for powerlifting and the plates are ridiculously big as if for CrossFit, however there is no crossfit area...

What really lets NRG down is the shocking customer service, the customer portal which isn't user-friendly at ALL and makes it near impossible to cancel your membership. We were reeled in with an introductory "founder's membership" with a reduced fee of £10.99 for the first month however upon emailing the customer service team to cancel my membership I was blatantly ignored for weeks until after I got charged £20...

When i disputed this I was met with T&Cs jargon about how I was contracted to pay 2 month's membership, which I wasn't made aware of at the time of signing up.

My partner was also charged a further TWO times after receiving his cancellation confirmation email in January and was met with rude and unprofessional customer service.

Would not recommend, dodgy experience overall and the whole thing just seems scammy.

Bad/lack of service

The changing room is not ready. Of course, showers are not avaiable also. There are no some popular kits or just 1 kit of a type which, obviously, is occupied most of the time. They don't have their own parking. I had to use Tesco's parking not far away from the gym. Even more: they refused to cancel my subscription! What the f@ck? I can't say this is scam but at least, it's not fair business!

NRG Walsall Good could be great

Good gym with every equipment you will need and good selection of free weight. Althought could do with a second punch bag.

Staff very friendly and helpful also 2 hours free parking at tesco.

The area we're it let's itself down is the shower and locker room. The showers are dirty and have mold. Also the temperature of the water is way to hot. Half the locker are broken and can not be locked

If it made these improvements it could be a really great gym.

Good gym, could be great

I joined NRG in the summer of 2022 after a few day passes, as the equipment being Hammer Strength and Life fitness being good quality and at the time the atmosphere was great.

Since I joined though the place has had no consistency when it comes to managerial staff which I believe has been resolved but it meant that the place has developed issues as the regular staff I think felt powerless to do much about themselves, such as, the gym can be joined online and members just come in off the street, which I understand in this day and age of convenience is what is in demand, but what that means is you get people, (mainly young lads but not limited to) coming in with no gym experience and with absolutely zero gym etiquette whatsoever wearing sliders/crocs/some other form of footwear that looks like a 3d printed skeletal dinosaur foot, being given no instruction/induction and are not advised by staff of any of the rules. The signs around clearly are not enough to make people do simple things like replace weights they have used.

People are loading bars, and not unloading for the next person, I witnessed one male who I know to be an experienced lifter, just leave 200kgs loaded on a deadlift bar for the next person to have to unload before they can use it. Another chump physically kicking a 20kg plate with both feet rapidly at a speed that if he were swimming, he would be pushing for a world speed record at the 100m, inching the plate onto the bar, again before then trying to lift a weight well outside of his ability and left completely unchallenged by the staff. This is not only disrespectful of the kit but also, he is going to injure himself in the gym one day. Unable to lift it he too decided it would be easier to walk away from it than unload it for the next person.

In the main, the majority of members at this gym do not like to put their weights away, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had to replace dumbbells left strewn all over the gym floor, or go looking for them at the opposite end of the gym, not just because it annoys me, but because I want to train in a safe environment and would like to be able to find the dumbbells when I or any of the people who train to a decent level come to need them. But I offer my compliments to the one female member of staff who can be heard on the tannoy repeatedly reminding people to put their weights away, it is a futile exercise but the effort is appreciated.

Then there are those who are using cable attachments/handles on pieces of kit that they are simply not designed for which has seen some handles get worn out or even break, which is the fault of the Instagram/You tube generation and their influence it has to be said but please, please, please, staff, get a grip of this and show people what they should and shouldn’t need to do, Hammer strength kit is excellent kit designed as such that handles for angles shouldn’t be required…and WHERE ARE ALL THE NEW CARABINERS GOING AGAIN? Maybe even signs up in the changing rooms politely asking people to not dispose of chewing gum or tissue in the sink and use the bins provided? Wouldn’t kill people to wipe the kit down after they’ve sweated all over it too.

Since I joined there has been just ONE piece of kit added and that was the Cybex Hack squat, which is great do not get me wrong, and as mentioned before the Kit is good at this gym, but it is in desperate need of more now as the amount of members coming through the doors means having to wait an extortionate amount of time to get on kit as again, members with no gym etiquette don’t know how to share or allow people to work in on sets.

Some pieces needed I would suggest are
1. Prime plate loaded row
2. Seal row bench
3. Cybex Squat press
4. Belt squat
5. Standing hamstring curl
6. Arsenal hack squat
7. More plates from 1.25 – 25 kgs
8. More dumbbells (tired of only being able to find one)
9. Chest supported T- BAR row
There is a lot of space seemingly going to waste. Maybe keep leg equipment together where the MMA spot used to be or all back/chest equipment just to offer some form of uniformity and semblance.

Despite all of this, I know the current manager is doing his best to get the place running to a better standard, and the staff are nice, it is a cost effective and in the most part a friendly gym considering the standard of the current equipment, and the potential for this place to be great is there, but it there are improvements that need to be made if it is going to retain members
