The Offshore Navigation Course was extremely valuable and well structured. The topics were presented in a very clear and understandable way, making even complex concepts easy to follow. What stood out in particular was the excellent support and willingness to help outside of the actual course sessions — the follow-up and availability for questions were outstanding.

I experienced a huge learning curve throughout the course. It significantly improved my ability to understand and interpret data, which has helped me make better and more confident decisions offshore.

Last but not least, I would like to mention that this course also contributed to our success in winning the ORC World Championship in the Corinthian Class 0.

This was a fantastic class. Josh does an excellent job of covering the fundamentals while also showing you how to personalize your expedition. Not only is the class itself great, but the resources he provides outside the classroom are invaluable. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in offshore navigation, regardless of their level of experience.

I took part in the “Offshore Navigation Foundations” by Off Watch Labs and overall I’m very satisfied with the course.

What stands out most is the clear and well-thought-out structure. The content builds up logically, making it easy to follow even without prior experience. I personally had little experience with regatta navigation before and mainly relied on mobile apps for weather forecasts as well as Navionics. This course is an ideal next step.

The small group format is a big advantage. It allows for meaningful exchange with other participants and significantly improves understanding. There is also a WhatsApp group, which remains very valuable for sharing experiences even after the course.

Content-wise, the course goes far beyond just using tools. You learn how to better understand and combine different data sources—such as wind, waves, and currents—and integrate them into desktop tools. The course mainly uses Expedition (probably one of the best tools on the market), but the concepts and key takeaways can easily be applied to other routing software as well.

In addition to weather and polar data, there is a strong focus on structuring the overall routing process—from pre-race preparation to decision-making on board. I also found the provided documents and templates particularly useful, as they can be directly used for crew briefings.

Overall, the course is very well designed. Of course, you need to invest some time afterward to apply what you’ve learned—but that worked well for me. I was able to improve my skills relatively quickly and take them to a new level.

Clear recommendation for anyone looking to seriously improve their navigation and routing skills.

We had a 5 part Nav Inshore workshop. Great to start getting into the navigation tools and get a basic understanding of how to use it.

The two classes I attended were very well organized and structured, with quality information delivered in approachable ways. I appreciate the structure and depth of the concepts and topics, it was a perfect fit me as an amateur racer wanting intermediate/advanced level learning experiences.

The course provides a clear and structured approach to the tasks of the a navigator with lots of insider tips from an experienced sailor!
The small classes format facilitates knowledge sharing with Josh but also between the participants.
I am now more confident that I can handle race prep and navigation responsibilities on my own.
Expedition is used during the course (you even get your own trial license) but the concepts can be applied to other routing software (e.g. Adrena).

Working with Josh was extremely helpful for our first double-handed race last summer. He supported us in setting up and connecting the onboard computer and gave us a clear and structured crash course on the software (Expedition), as we had little experience before.

Before each race, Josh provided concise weather briefings that removed unnecessary complexity. We discussed different scenarios and always had a well-thought-out solution ready. Through his input, we knew exactly how to act in different situations, which had a clear positive impact on our sailing performance.
