Poor Quality Food at Warner Berkshire Retreat
The Warner Berkshire retreat isn’t remotely a patch food wise on previous on track retreats I experienced at the Hilton - At Berkshire we had overcooked vegetables and fish, heavily salted soups, white rice, processed breads and uninspiring meals often poorly balanced in terms of macros and fibre - not worth the premium price of this retreat.
We had over boiled potatoes with almost all evening meals rather than the mixed grains and fibres. I put on 2 pounds and worse still bloated and my waist measurement increased - the food on previous retreats at the Hilton was delicious and I lost weight without feeling hungry.
At this Berkshire retreat - One or at most two eggs for breakfast and a handful of fruit left me short of protein for the day. Such a shame because the exercise program was great with many take home ideas, fun dancing run by an amazing local trainer - his sessions were the only reason I stayed - while quite a few of the guests in my group went early.Though a lovely looking building the Warner’s premium rates and “4 stars” stem from the fact it’s a highly popular entertainment hotel with an elderly clientele -whose kitchen is geared up more for cooking popular pub type food or treat foods for indulgent stays. Interestingly it even dropped its salad bar recently as its commitment didn’t seem at all aligned to health or local provenance. So the on track retreat picks the best health choices from this kitchen and their buffet breakfasts for you - best thing all week was a homemade granola nut and seed mix that was brought in by the On Track Manager
otherwise it’s a reasonable standard hotel though its pool closed at 17.00 preventing use for a swim or sauna in the evening as you could do at the Hilton.
