People are complaining about OpenRouter not offering excellent service for free - it's a business, people! And OpenRouter doesn't even have anything to do with any rate limits, considering it's simply an aggregator of providers!

The owners seem to be getting lazier with their service however. The website's performance is dropping rapidly, and editing of messages becomes nigh impossible the longer they are. It's been years, people! You should have a regular kind of customer support rather than a Discord channel of all places. Good selection of models and versatile API, but the service is far from good as of 2025.

I start with the free models, and i don't remember used it more than 5 request with a normal response back from the model, and they count about 500 requests which i was shocked how they calculate the API requests, i was hesitant to add credits to increase my daily limits for using free models as it's useless when you calculate it this way.

These "OpenRouter" staff need to actually care about people using free options of their models, because im so tired of seeing that for whatever reason, my API just keeps getting rate-limited and I could only get like 6 responses using free version. Include the fact it still takes a request from you daily balance wich is just great. Shame on yall.

The first time I tried it was nice but after some time it broke. All credits gone just because the models kept breaking. A waste of money to be honest and if you're new to this just use the free credits but know that even whit 50 of them the best you'll get is just one response and the rest just error 429. I hope they fix it even though my hopes are not high.

It's good and bad at the same time. The models are okay but lots of them break, or get errors 429. So my honest opinion would be that it's good, but eats credits whit no response in return. I hope that they will fix it

Website counting up outputs even if said outputs never reach me because of errors that PREVENT them to generate.

Poor payment options. Should be able to simply provide a BTC or Monero address that we can send to.

I added credits using Amazon Pay and not long after I had a notification that someone was trying to log into my Amazon account. Luckily I had 2-step verification enabled otherwise I would have been screwed. Had to change all my details. A shame, but definitely won't use again.

Biggest scam ever in this AI era. I have wasted money, time and effort setting this piece of garbage into my cursor ai, thinking i could use Ai models through API in cursor. Ended up, all of its Ai chatbot knowledge is 1 year old, it keep spitting out wrong steps, expired procedures, leads to pages that doesn't exist anymore and keep proposing wrong model names.

Then it's discord cannot be used, stuck in onboarding.

Its github is shit, cant get any answer or example there!

Finally, i have contacted support, then I saw this notice, it will respond in ONE WEEK!

I hope this review reaches them ASAP!

If you want to solve error of a simple config file...we need to spent atleast 30$....the same thing if we do it on other same agent services we need to spent less than 2$.

they are real scammers, even u spent 100$ ur issue will not be solved...they literally scam...Dont waste money

Bloody scammers, they are requiring me to PUT CREDITS to use models, what kind of scam is that?

OpenRouter is a very nice service.
On their page I can browse through the llms they support and there are many free good ones there.
This is good, as using aider with gemini 2.5 pro can blast through money.
On each llm page, there are also the providers listed and a short notice, whether or not said provider uses your data for training.

Payment is easy with credit card. Sadly there is no PayPal support.

I like that the default is, that you have to charge up credits (by an amount you choose).

Easy access to multiple AI models via their API.

absolutely useless, the usage is very wasteful.
i used their latest model but it wasn't able to handle simplest of tasks efficiently.

They charged me $9 but credited me $5 and the invoice says $5.64. The Stripe system said "Get $5 when you link your bank account" (or words to that effect) but I received nothing. Their support email does not exist and they have no support capabilities. Do not support this type of business practice from a "technology company".
