Seek out Ollie
Life experience has resulted in a dislike of Estate Agents and Car Salespeople and I had probably delayed changing my car for three years due to dreading the inevitable encounter, so I was really surprised when I met Oliver (Ollie) Rooney at Paul Rigby Volvo in Stourport who was a very amicable young man with a gentle, easy going demeanour and totally devoid of the usual overconfident, patronising personalities of car sales people I have encountered in the past. So instead of another uncomfortable experience, this one was a joy the whole way through, and if there were more people like Ollie in Dealerships, I might change my cars more regularly. If Paul Rigby have even the slightest clue, they need to hold-on to Ollie for all they are worth because he is definitely the kind of person to bring in repeat trade, and I for one would not hesitate to buy from him again.

I bought an xc40 b4 mhev auto from this dealer in April 2021 with 2305 miles on the clock. It is now 5.5 years old with only 44k miles on the clock. It has never been in an accident or so much as even a scratch in a car park. My wife has predominantly driven it to work 10 miles away 2-3 times per week.
I have had the car fully serviced. This car has had a catastrophic engine failure where the wet belt in the sump has snapped and written off the engine. The 2nd hand value of the car is approx £15 - £18k and I have been quoted £12k to fix it by a local garage.
So naturally I have gone back to Paul Rigby Stourbridge who i bought the car from to see what assistance/ help they can offer me or from volvo directly.
They have offered absolutely no help at all (as well as volvo directly through complaints) and to be honest they have been rude and condescending on the phone. Especially the service team.
Due to the astronomical figure to fix the car/amount left on finance, I have had no choice but to scrap the vehicle and come out of this only a few thousand £ down instead of approx £22k!
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY A CAR OF THIS AGE AND MILEAGE SHOULD BE A WRITE OFF DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE.
I have scanned to web and it appears this is a common fault with that particular make model/year.
It is beyond disgusting that volvo have not acknowledged the fault/ recalled and are not offering any financial assistance when this happens.
Like many people in the country at this moment in time, I simply cannot afford this kind of expenditure. I am an honest hard working completely blamless customer who deserves much better.
I bought the car based on volvos reputation. They have been widely recognised as bullet proof. Well not anymore. They can't make reliable cars and won't offer to help when they break down.

When I get my key back opens packing cigarettes left on the passengers seat, I don’t and never have smoked and neither does my other half

I have to sort this out myself … so basically washed there hands with this car 😡😡😡. It’s now over a week and they still have not agreed to fix this car .. AVOD THIS GARAGE THEY ARE SCAMMERS !!!
Very Disappointing After Sales Service
I am extremely disappointed with the after sales service provided by Paul Rigby Volvo. I purchased a nine months old XC90 costing £58,000, expecting a level of customer care that reflects both the price and the brand, yet sadly, that was not my experience.
Unfortunately, when I raised a concern about a minor dent that I noticed the day after collecting the car, the dealership showed no willingness to take responsibility or offer a reasonable solution; and instead chose to prioritise profits over customer satisfaction. Given the age and value of the vehicle, and that the cost of addressing the issue would have been negligible (around £100-£150), this issue should not have been dismissed so readily. The salesperson even had the audacity to say that their refusal to cover the cost was justified by virtue of the discount agreed in the original part exchange price negotiation, before further implying that the dents were caused post-sale!
I am frankly astonished with the dealership’s lack of integrity and dismissive attitude. For a premium purchase from an authorised main dealer I expected much higher standards of service and a more professional and customer focused approach. And it certainly makes the claim on Paul Rigby’s own website that ‘our experienced team are committed to providing you and your Volvo with award-winning service‘ seem extremely hollow.
Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Paul Rigby Volvo.

Definitely suggest avoiding the Stourbridge dealership
My son and I visited Paul Rigby, Volvo Stourbridge seeking to make our next purchase and genuinely found their service to be substandard. They kept us waiting, unwilling to assist and unapologetic. I would definitely not recommend this dealership as if this is their initial service, God forbid what it would be afterwards.

I found this car on Auto Trader and called them. After a few minutes they said (Chris) “yes, it’s available — but if you want it, pay a non-refundable £500 deposit now and we’ll reserve it.” After 40 minutes of me giving them my details and about to send the payment link, they suddenly said “wait — someone’s here to test drive it; if they don’t want it we’ll call you.” I told them I’d already been on the phone for 40 minutes, then they rude-ly hung up. An hour later they rang back and said the other people “didn’t want it” and offered to rush it to me — I refused. They also repeatedly pushed me to wire the full amount immediately. Thankfully I didn’t transfer any money.
A Pleasure To Deal With
Having previously dealt with many car dealers, for most of the luxury makes, Courtney McLaughlin at Paul Rigby Volvo Birmingham absolutely stood out for her professionalism, knowledge and attention to detail.
Nothing was too much trouble and Courtney patiently answered all our questions.
Courtney was a genuine pleasure to deal with and my wife is delighted with her XC40.
Volvo just don't back in touch with customers full of empty promises not a good experience again.

Deception on the part of Paul Rigby Birmingham
Got my car back today from Paul Rigby in Birmingham and they never carried out any of the work quoted, but I was still charged for this. I also never received any calls to when they would pick up my car. This dealership seems to have gone downhill and provides little or no service at all. Its such an expensive car I bought and now the service feels like a real let down. It used to be a good dealership at one point. Will never use again and this is a warning for others.
Update 13/06/2025 - All my issues rectified by Volvo now, which was better, so hopefully there will be improvements.
Really poor service experience
We own Volvo cars since 2017 and used West London Volvo as well as TMS services in Midlands. Had to visit Paul Rigby Birmingham for a diagnostic and possible fix the day before we were travelling abroad and was told to drop the car and it will be looked during the day. Despite I turned up just after 8, mentioned over the phone booking and on the day that I travelled from far, my car was not even moved from the parking space for 4 hours; forget about being seen! Never again...
