Beware of the Ghosting Contractor

To repair my aging driveway, PAVCO (Justin) recommended installing a 2-inch asphalt overlay. The work was completed on September 25, 2025. As part of the project, sections of the existing driveway were milled so the new asphalt would transition smoothly to the existing concrete pad.

The installation itself went reasonably well, with one exception. Equipment leaked oil onto the concrete pad, and I spent several hours pressure washing it to remove the stains.

Within a few weeks, we noticed one rough area in the new asphalt. Justin responded promptly and said he would have someone look at it. By November, however, several additional areas had begun crumbling. I contacted Justin again, and from that point forward we worked to schedule a repair.

I understood that asphalt repairs were not practical during the winter months and told Justin I was willing to wait until spring if that was the proper way to fix it. Justin assured me multiple times that the driveway would be repaired and even suggested the problem may have been caused by a bad asphalt mix that day.

Once paving season returned, however, the pattern became one of repeated promises, missed dates, and continued delays. Over the following months there were numerous texts, phone calls, and assurances that the repair would be scheduled "next week," "tomorrow," or when the crew was working nearby, yet the work kept being postponed.

As the months passed, the deterioration became progressively worse. In several locations, the new asphalt crumbled enough to expose the original driveway beneath it. At those exposed edges, the new asphalt appeared to be only about 1 inch thick rather than the specified 2-inch overlay.

In mid-July 2026, after months of follow-up, a foreman (Tommie) finally visited the property, took photographs, and commented that it appeared the wrong type of asphalt may have been used in the affected areas. He noted that the material was much coarser than expected and contained larger aggregate.

In late July, the crew finally returned and milled out the failed sections of asphalt. As of this writing, however, I am still waiting for the replacement asphalt to be installed. More than ten months after the original installation, the repair remains incomplete despite many assurances and repeated attempts on my part to get the work scheduled.

Construction defects can happen, and I understand that weather and winter conditions affect asphalt work. My frustration is not that a problem occurred—it's that it has taken months of follow-up, repeated promises, and persistent effort just to get an incomplete repair underway.

Finally, on August 4th 2026 - the PACOC crew showed up (two hours late) and finished repairing my driveway.
