This place is a scam — be extremely careful before using them.

The call-out fee sounds cheap, but the actual cost to open the lock was absolutely outrageous.

My mum, who is in her late 60s, accidentally locked herself outside. I was about 5 hours away, so unfortunately I couldn’t come and open the door myself. The front door has a basic entrance lockset that I can even pick myself.

I spoke to the locksmith over the phone and was told that he would have to break the lock to get inside and that it would cost around $600. I specifically told him not to open the door if he had to break the lock.

I then asked him to try the back door, which has an even easier lock, and he told me that it wasn’t possible. I again told him not to proceed with the service.

Despite this, the locksmith apparently stood there and convinced my mum that he could open the front door and pressured her into allowing him to proceed. He then opened it in approximately 5 minutes without breaking the door or lock.

The worst part is that he didn’t tell my mum how much the service would cost before charging her. He then stood there and took her credit card details. He called his boss and read her card number over the phone, and they charged her over $700, claiming that they had to use “special equipment.”

My mum was uncomfortable handing over her card details and asked for the BSB and account number so she could transfer the money instead, but he wouldn’t provide them and proceeded to charge her card for over $700.

So to be clear: I was originally told it would cost $600 because the lock supposedly had to be broken, I explicitly refused the service, yet the locksmith convinced my elderly mum to let him proceed, opened the door in 5 minutes without breaking the lock, and then charged over $700 without clearly explaining the price beforehand.

The whole experience was extremely concerning and felt incredibly predatory, especially given that my mum was alone, elderly and locked outside.

I would strongly recommend getting a clear, written price BEFORE allowing this company to do anything. Don’t rely on the cheap call-out fee — the actual cost can apparently be hundreds of dollars more.

⭐ 1 Star – Absolutely ridiculous pricing

I called ProGuard Locksmiths because I had a broken key stuck in a window lock.

The locksmith arrived and removed the broken piece of key in literally a matter of seconds. There was no lock replacement, no repair and no parts required.

I was then charged $346.50.

I understand there is a call-out fee and that trades charge for their time and expertise, but $346.50 for removing a broken key from a window lock in seconds is, in my opinion, completely unreasonable and excessive.

MY ELDERYLY 72 YR OLD MOTHER WAS SCAMMED INTO PAYING OVER $1000 FOR AN INTERNAL DOOR HANDLE REPLACEMENT WITH NO LOCK, TO BE OPEN AND RELACED BY A CHEAP GAINSBOROUGH $35 DOOR HANDLE FROM BUNNINGS IN THE WRONG COLOUR (BLACK INSTEAD OF CHROME). THE ENTIRE HOUSE IS CHROME.

THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A QUOTE WHEN I HAD BEEN THE ONE TO BOOK THE CALL OUT AND WENT AHEAD THEN REFUSED TO LEAVE MY ELDERLY MOTHERS HOUSE UNTIL WE PAID WHILE I AM AT WORK AND THEY HAD NOT EVEN EMAILED ME THE INVOICE.
$550 FOR A CHEAP BUNNINGS DOOR HANDLE ALONE TO BE INSTALLED AFTER HE CRACKED OUR DOOR AND BROKE IT. NOT INCLUDING TO OPEN THE DOOR AND DOUBLE CHARGING FOR INSTALLATION ADVISING THE LATCH IS SEPERATE TO THE HANDLE.
SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR MENTAL HEALTH. THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN.

AVOID THIS COMPANY - extremely poor after-sales service and serious concerns about how this business presents itself.

We paid ProGuard Locksmiths $1,400.25 for work that included two new cylinders, an oval snib and rekeying two locks. A key later became completely stuck in our office entrance lock and could not be removed, leaving us unable to secure the premises properly.

We reported the fault on Tuesday, supplied photographic evidence and clearly explained that it created an urgent security risk. ProGuard said the matter could take up to 72 hours. It is now Friday, more than 72 hours later, and nobody has attended, repaired the lock or provided a practical solution.

When I called again, I was told that staff could do nothing except refer the matter to “higher management”. They could not provide a manager’s name, telephone number or email address. No manager contacted us and no attendance time or effective escalation option was provided. We eventually submitted a detailed formal complaint through their website.

In my experience, their customer service has been extremely poor, unprofessional and dismissive. After accepting a substantial payment, they failed to provide basic after-sales assistance when the installed lock became a genuine security concern.

Their website prominently promotes a 4.9 rating, customer testimonials, fast 15-20 minute arrival, 24/7 emergency service and reliable repairs. However, I could not find a Google Business review profile for this company when I searched. Displaying prominent ratings and testimonials while customers cannot locate a corresponding Google review listing raised serious concerns for me and felt misleading.

I strongly recommend that prospective customers research this business carefully, obtain a complete written quote before approving any work, and check independent review websites. Based on the lack of urgency, communication and accountability shown in our case, I would not use or recommend ProGuard Locksmiths.

Unethical business as mentioned by everyone else here, my story is pretty much the same as everyone else, mine happened on the 1/7/2026. I recommend is contacting Consumer Affair and lodge an action with VCAT. After a month of communication and follow up via email by me and Consumer Affair, ProGuard has refunded me on what I demanded that has been excessively overcharged.

Locked out of home due to car keys in our house keys being stolen was quoted 2 to 4 grand for break-in Change of all the locks and the keys. The bill ended up being 11 grand sent an itemise listed with no total. I asked for the total of which he said I need to approve all the all the replacements first originally then told between 2 to 4k then it went up to 8 grand then when the job was done asked for 11,500 have On recording him being dishonest and lying and then willing to reduce the price because he’s been caught out. Im currently on holiday in VietNam and needed urgent service. But 11k is a joke

No pricing up front. Wanted $475 to open the lock once he’d finished drilling. Wanted $99 to put a new barrel in. Took my barrel away.
Untrustworthy. Never again. No official marked car. Felt vulnerable as a woman alone.

I am highly disappointed with the service from ProGuard Locksmiths. I specifically requested that all of my doors be rekeyed to a brand-new key. Instead, the locksmith left me with my existing key, which already operated two of the doors. No new key system was provided as requested.
Furthermore, the locksmith replaced my security door lock without any prior price consultation. I was charged an exorbitant $400 for a lock that retails at Bunnings for under $50.
To make matters worse, their customer service is non-existent. The locksmith refused to return my calls, and the formal complaint I lodged through the ProGuard Locksmiths website has been completely ignored for three weeks now. Avoid this company if you expect fair pricing, correct service, or professional communication

Fixed a lock for an expensive price. It broke after three months. Work not guaranteed. We got a proper locksmith in, who said that the work by the Proguard locksmith was very poor quality, and that the lock itself was extremely cheaply made and was no better than a toy.

scammers that take advantage of women and damage doors because they are not locksmiths they are just common thieves.

I called them on the weekend. They did their work. But the pricing was 3 to 4 times higher than the usual price. They never told me what the total cost would be before the work, while their website says that they would always give a quotation. A European guy came. The car and other items don't match what's advertised on their website. They charged me almost equal to the price of the monthly rent for hardly 20 minutes of work! I am really not sure how these kinds of business entities get a license to work! People will be harmed. Also, if you search on Google, I believe they paid to promote their website. No open Google review exists. Government should look into these.

Biggest scammers ever .$1130 for 10 minutes work opening a door . Obviously getting to and from a job and the knowledge is worth money included with the time of a job but these guys charge 3-4 times a normal rate . Wouldn’t have questioned a 500 dollar bill but these guys stung me : $250 emergency fee , $200 weekend fee , $80call out fee all while the page advertised 25 dollar flat call out rate . $480 to take a couple minutes to drill a tiny hole. Who decides what’s an emergency or not for that 250? Even ad 15% charge for paying by card which everybody would obviously pay this way . Stuck outside after 12 hours nightshift and find a smashed car window and house keys stolen from then have to wait up for hours just to get shafted again by these crooks . Only proceeded because of ignorance of what a normal price is and a bad need to get inside knowing also 600 odd would be his asking just for turning up without opening it .Avoid like the plague . Maybe I’ll have to call again and give them an address somewhere but won’t find a locked door will only find me and 10 mates and an invoice for them to pay on the spot.

A female neighbour was BULLIED into work worth $900 which damaged her door and needed to pay $200+ to get repaired. Check the many complaints and underhanded tactics of this mob.

My friend used them and paid 10x the price simply because she trusted them.

They have been reported to the police for coercive and illegal practices.

Should have zero stars. Vague about the price of the service (no 'transparent pricing') to unlock a door and paid almost a month's rent for the service. Never again. Should go to the ACCC and a current affair.

Alex (French accent) attended my new home to change the keys. Unfortunately, the experience left me feeling extremely uncomfortable and intimidated.

The business and vehicle presented were nothing like what was advertised online — he arrived in an unbranded, run-down car, which immediately raised concerns for me. I’ve since read about cases of locksmith jobs being intercepted from legitimate companies, so it made me question whether this may have been one of those situations.

I was quoted an approximate cost over the phone, however upon arrival the price instantly doubled. When I questioned this, I was told “I already explained that to you,” which wasn’t the case. It felt manipulative and gaslighting. A call-out fee was also demanded despite never being disclosed beforehand.

The overall interaction felt very pressured, intimidating and unpleasant, and I did not feel comfortable in my own home during the experience. I would strongly encourage others to go elsewhere.

Wasted an hour driving to meet them at our caravan when we locked in 2pm. Then said he would be there at 2.40pm so waited longer and then he said not until after 4pm.

False and misleading advertising, advertise as honest, transparent, fair pricing and no hidden costs.
Also no written quote given before work commenced.

The invoice was only provided after work was completed and was unexpectedly high and did not reflect the materials used or the time taken to do the job.

Charged $1,220 for a 30 min adjustment of a lock
Booking was between 3-5pm then turned up 2 hours late and adds a $300 after hours charge onto the invoice as well as a $460 new lock fee and $150 fee for 30 mins work

If you are comfortable about paying for the unfortunate situation of being locked out, ( itemized on the bill) don’t mind paying for the “heavy duty tools” they use to do the job ( also itemized on bill) and have a lazy $1711 to throw around, this is the company for you. This is price gouging at its best. Total exploitation.
