I recently sold to Rails of Sheffield a large amount of model railway items. I sent Rails of sheffield a list of Items. I received an interim offer which I accepted. I sent the items to Rails of sheffield via their courier service. I then received an offer for my model railway items which was the same as the first offer, which I accepted.

Great to deal with. Very professional at all stages of the process. I sent my list of items and received a very fair offer. Once I accepted, they arranged for the items to be collected from my house on a Wednesday, they confirmed their offer on the Saturday and the money was in my account on the Monday. They were great to deal with - thoroughly recommend

I ordered a steam engine from this company. They send it all the way to Korea without first checking it ran properly, and then asked me to oil the model despite the included instructions saying there was no need to oil it.

At no time was anyone from there rude to me, but it seems very odd that they would ship it all that way without testing it, even my local model shop does that! When I emailed to say that bits had fallen off so I threw it away, I did not even receive an answer. So for all the superficial politeness, it was basically a case of lack of interest once they had my money.

Thus, they have lost a customer.

Went into there store as an amateur to this hobby, I'd seen online a starter set I wanted the moving mountains set. Whilst in store the gentleman behind the till talked about the sounds fitted set. I knew that it need a digital controller to make all the sounds and enquired if I buy the moving mountains with fitted sounds will I get an basic digital controller which the guy stated yes.

It arrived a few days later with the basic control not digital and there two sound that it would make. I called rails of Sheffield and they said the store will get back to me that was 3/4 weeks ago and I've not heard anything from them.

I'm new to this hobby and I knew it would be expensive but I expect to given the correct information as I was trying to ask all the right questions. However I've now had to spend another £100 to get all the sounds.

Based on how they treated me I would be very skeptical about using them again.

Ordered three dapol grampus wagons and two Farish walrus bogie ballast wagons at the start of June with advanced whethering. received a email saying that it will take a little longer to receive your models but that's ok having dealt with other retailers who deal in custom detailed model due to lead times when there busy it can take it a little longer that's important to take into account.you can find this in the FAQs. anyway received my models three days after the email and can honestly say was not disappointed, the detailing on the walrus wagons especially was sublime. on the side shoot's there was detailed rust where the stone would have scratched at the metal leaving it bare to rust.thats attention to detail 👍and at £7.95 a wagon I can honestly say it's worth it. whoever detailed my wagons you are a artist and deserve a pat on the back, and for that reason I have ordered another two walrus wagons a few mermaid and two gulf red dapol grampus wagons.a shout out to the staff and all at rail's.you are my go-to shop for n gauge weathered rolling stock.🙂

I have dealt with Rails many times over the years and always found them very friendly, helpful and efficient. I have now reached an age when it is not so easy to "play trains" so decided to sell most of my engines, carriages, wagons, etc. Naturally, I approached Rails to buy my stock. It was all arranged in a couple of days. I packed it up and they arranged collection. The money was in my account the next day. I will now pack up the rest of my stock and feel certain to get the same service. Thank you.

I've been a customer of Rails for a great many years and they have always been first class, very prompt dispatch when items are in stock and also when a pre-ordered items is received. I have never had cause to raise an issue.
Following a clear out of stock I no longer required I sent a list to Rails and a day later was given a provisional price depending on receipt and inspection of the items. They arranged for Parcel Force to collect the four good sized boxes at no cost to me and once they had inspected the items I had sent they transferred the full amount direct into my bank.
How simple was that?

What a fantastic company Rails are! I had some locos that I wanted to sell and they made it so easy for me. I proposed a part-exchange and they accepted. Their communication was excellent and they also generously gave me free postage on the item I purchased as the part-exchange. They're known in the Model Railway industry as one of, if not the best retailer. And my experience has more than confirmed that to be true! I highly recommend Rails!

Absolutely cannot fault the service from Rails of Sheffield, specifically the second hand team! So fast at responding to emails and phone calls and Jake processed the payment so quickly for us, no waiting around. Would definitely recommend!

I had a small collection of OO9 stock, plus points to dispose of, and also some OO gauge stock that I no longer needed, or was faulty. I listed the items on the website and submitted it. The response was within 24 hours with a reasonable offer which I accepted. I sent the lot off on Tuesday 48h tracked and got an e-mail on Thursday saying they had received the items and confirmed the amount, how would I like it. I responded Friday morning and had the money in my account that afternoon. Fantastic all the way through!

We are moving home and downsizing so I decided it was time to dispose of my model railway. I sent a list of the rolling stock, trackwork, and controllers to several potential buyers, and Rails of Sheffield offered a good price. I bought much of my layout from them so I accepted their offer. When the time came they arranged collection and as soon as they received it payment was made to my bank account in full. As I had found when buying from Rails of Sheffield, they were equally efficient and reliable. A pleasure to do business!

Excellent service from Rails. I’m selling some of my late husband’s treasured collection and they’ve been prompt, clear and efficient in all aspects of this. As with a previous reviewer, I wasn’t given an am or pm time for collection, yet on the slip I received at 3pm when the parcels were picked up by Parcel Force the official slip said ‘Earliest - 12 Latest 17.15.’ It would have been good for Parcel Force to indicate this at some point. A fast, efficient, friendly and easy-to-use Secondhand service that I used to sell my surplus rolling stock following a downsizing of my layout

Loved the store, paid my first visit last week. Was ignored when I entered for a little while despite hovering by the counter, but that aside a really good experience. Had great conversation about tip on how to start my layout and received a £10 discount for an item I had ordered from the website that was as described.

An Aladdin's Cave for sure and defo worth a visit.

I have also ordered several thousand pounds worth of locomotives via the website which is easy to navigate and far smoother process than TMC for example. Now if only they offered the same personalisation products that TMC did and all tied up with that great website experience, it would be 5 stars 👍🏻

I've bought many items over the years from Rails but never sold anything.
Decided to sell a 00 Model Train and not only were Rails quick to reply, their quote was more than any other.
They paid as soon as it was received, very quick and easy service indeed, thanks Ben/Jake.

I ordered a small N scale wagon from their online shop, at the checkout I was given an option to have the item weathered, for a fee. I decided to go ahead with this. After a few days I emailed Rails of Sheffield to ask when I might expect to receive the item. I received a pretty abrupt reply saying it could take up to two weeks.
Almost two weeks later I contacted them again but this time I was told that weathering can take up to three weeks.
Absolute joke for such a tiny item. I could understand if there was a waiting list however when I asked for the item to be sent unweathered they replied that it had already been started.
I just hope if and when it turns up that the weathering is perfect and that it's been worth the wait, I have my doubts already!

Having accepted Rails estimated offer for my list of 20 items of OO gauge rolling stock they arranged collection by Parcelforce ( Tracked and Insured ).
On delivery they quickly inspected the stock , confirmed their offer and paid by bank transfer .
