Scum bags subjecting renters to disgusting living conditions
This management company and the overall experience that my roommates and I had renting an apartment through them was absolutely horrible to say the very least.
We moved into a first floor apartment and since day one nothing was right. We had rodent issues the entire time we lived there, some months finding over 15 mice, and the management company neglected to do anything about it UNTIL a month before move out when they were showing the apartment to new prospective tenants, we said to them "it would be a disservice to yourself to start showing the apartment with mouse traps everywhere." Not to mention, the apartment stunk like dead animals and OF COURSE someone finally came out to fix the issue.
My room in the basement flooded 3 times, yes 3 times. The first time management blamed me for not properly clearing the drain (specifically saying it was "a bag of Cheetos that blocked the drain"...I don't eat Cheetos). After the 3rd time my room flooded, and I threatened to take legal action, a contractor was finally sent out who noted that a proper drainage system WASN'T in fact installed and that he'd have to come install one. A few weeks after this incident, the new drainage system was installed and luckily I had no more damages after than yet all my clothes and items stored under my bed were damaged SINCE the water at times rose as high as my bed.
Their accounting department also claimed to not receive my rent check on multiple occasions, and the same goes for a few of my other roommates. One time I even handed it to the woman at the front desk IN their office, and a few days later I get a note claiming they never got my check and that I had to pay a late fee. The late fees to note varied each month without a proper explanation sometimes being over $300. Even after explaining to them that my checks were handed into their office, or that I did send them in on time and have receipts to prove it, they threatened that if I didn't pay I'd still be held accountable for it the next month with interest on top of it.
Come the end of our lease (June 14th) we get an email telling us they need an answer by April 23rd on whether we are going to renew the lease. 1) By law we should have received a renewal lease 90 days before our move out date (nope) and 2) we still didn't even seen a new lease by the 23rd of April (their random deadline).
To also note, everyone who works at the company are completely incompetent human begins. Our leasing agent emailed us on June 21st asking if we had moved out yet (again our move out date was on June 14th). Our Super who I could go on and on about, performed a walk through of the apartment with us and during the walk through I had to remind him that we had a downstairs floor that he needed to check. He was also mad he had to do the walkthrough with us because he was missing an important soccer game.
THE ICING ON THE CAKE - now we are dealing with getting our security deposit back. First, we provided all of the proper issuing addresses on June 23rd via email in which our main contact responded acknowledging he had them HOWEVER the leasing agent still claims she doesn't have them. We also have been told that they are withholding $2,500 of our deposit and when we asked for an explanation they listed out multiple broken items that were NOT broken upon move out. When we then asked for dollar amounts the management company said and I quote "The landlords will only provide those numbers if you take them to court."
At the end of the day, these horrible people have to live with what they are doing to 5 young professionals living in NYC. If they can go to bed happy knowing they are stealing from us, good for you you scum bags.
For anyone who currently rents from them...I truly feel bad for you and good luck!
