I signed up for an online course. After some time has passed, SailTrain said that my course had expired and that I would have to pay the fee again to access it.
I had received no warning of this, so feel ripped off. Especially as it would cost them nothing to reinstate my online access

You purchased a course that was valid for 12 months. We hold your written confirmation that you accepted this 12-month limit at the time of purchase. You tried to access the course over 2 years later.
The course is provided by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and after the 12-month limit (with there being no activity) they, not us, have deleted the course and all your information. Which they are required to do under the General Data Protection Regulations.
Your course cannot be reinstated as it no longer exists.
You stated that you had completed the course, at which point access to the course would cease anyway.
You also stated that you didn’t want access to the course, you just wanted confirmation that you had completed the course so that you could take the exam that follows the course. Upon completion of the course, you print your own course completion certificate. When we asked you to provide a copy of that certificate (so that we could assist you in taking the exam) you were unable to do so.
I cannot think of any other explanation other than you didn’t actually complete the course in which case you would be trying to obtain an Internationally recognised qualification under false pretences or you have misplaced the completion certificate. In either case the situation is beyond our control.
As explained, in the absence of a course completion certificate, there is only one alternative and that is to take the course again. In order to provide you with that course we must purchase the course from the RYA. Purely as a goodwill gesture, we have offered you a new course at a reduced cost and it is therefore, hard to see what else we could have done.
