Thanks for taking the time to leave your review, (as promised) Russel.
We’re sorry you were unhappy with the outcome of your collection, but we feel it is important to clarify the facts for anyone reading this review.
The quoted price for your SCRAP - 2006 BMW 5 Series was £750.
As clearly stated in both our booking confirmation and terms, this price is guaranteed **provided the vehicle is complete with no missing parts and accurately described at the time of collection.**
At the time of booking, you described the vehicle as complete, with no issues and no damage.
However, when our collection agent inspected the vehicle, several issues were identified that had not been disclosed.
These included warning lights relating to the air pump/airbag system, marks and damage to multiple body panels, scuffs to the front bumper, and the vehicle requiring a jump start.
These are not insignificant points when dealing with a vehicle being purchased for scrap.
A scrap operator's valuation is based on the recoverable value of the vehicle, including its parts and materials. Damaged or defective components naturally reduce that value.
The revised valuation was explained to you at the collection point, and you were given the option for the vehicle to be left with you if you were unhappy with the revised price.
You chose to proceed with the sale, handed over the keys and logbook, and were paid £600 in full.
Following the collection, you contacted our team requesting the additional £150 and threatened to negatively publicise the matter on Facebook if this was not paid.
We cannot retrospectively pay the original quoted price where the vehicle's actual condition differs materially from the description provided at booking. irrespective of the threats of reuptation damage.
We have also obtained comparable valuations from other scrap operators for the vehicle in the condition presented, with quotes ranging from approximately £180 to £300.
Against that context, the £600 you was ultimately paid - was, in our opinion, a fair and very competitive scrap valuation.
It is important to understand that *Scrap Local is a scrap vehicle service, not a retail vehicle marketplace.*
The price offered reflects the vehicle's condition and its value to a scrap operator.
If you believed the vehicle was worth more based on its age, model or potential retail value, a private sale through a retail marketplace would have been the appropriate route.
We therefore completely reject the suggestion that you were “scammed”. You were given a conditional guaranteed price based on the description provided, the vehicle was subsequently found to be materially different from that description, the revised valuation was explained to you, you were given the opportunity to decline it, and you voluntarily proceeded with the sale.
We are happy to provide Trustpilot with the relevant booking information, photographs, call records and other documentation should they wish to verify the circumstances of the case.
Likewise, should you choose to take this matter to Facebook or the media, as you threatened to do, we will stand by our position and provide the evidence necessary to substantiate it, including the booking details, relevant call recordings, photographs of the vehicle and comparable quotations from other scrap operators.
You are entitled to be dissatisfied with the outcome, but that does not make the transaction unfair or fraudulent. The evidence supports the valuation offered and the way the collection was handled.
It was so easy and hassle free
